## What is Hay Festival?

Your Festival. All in one place.

Whether you're planning a packed few days of events, sharing the Festival with family and friends, or simply finding your way to your next talk, the Hay Festival App puts everything you need right at your fingertips – even when the signal in Hay is doing what the signal in Hay does.

Here's what you can look forward to:

Explore the full programme – Browse and search every event, filter by type or theme, and read all about it even when you're offline.

Your tickets, on your phone – Link your Hay Festival Website account and your tickets appear in the app, ready to show at the door. In a group, the organiser links the account for everyone. Simply sign in on Hay Festival Website from inside the app.

Your days, at a glance – Once your tickets are in, the app shows your Festival day by day, and lets you know if two events overlap.

Enjoy the Festival together – Create a group with friends and family, see who's going where, and have everyone's tickets available on every group member's phone – so if one battery dies, another phone can show the ticket.

Find your way – Use the Festival map to find every venue and, once you're in Hay, to see where you are. Before you arrive, it gives you directions to the car parks.

Never miss a moment – Switch on reminders and the app will nudge you before each of your events begins.

Be ready for anything – In the days before the Festival and while it's on, see the weather forecast for each day. Because the weather in Hay is the weather in Hay!

Getting started

Setting up takes a couple of minutes, and the app walks you through it:

1. Set up your profile – your name and email address. There's no password to remember; we email you a code instead.
2. Set up your group – everyone you're going with (or just you, if you're going on your own).
3. Link your Hay Festival Website account – the account you booked your tickets with. You sign in inside the app, and the app keeps your tickets up to date.
4. Assign your tickets – who's going to what.

Joining someone else's group? Use the code or link they send you, and they take care of steps 3 and 4.

One tip: open the app once at home, while you have a good connection, so the programme, your tickets and the map are all downloaded before you travel.

A little more time enjoying the Festival. A little less time organising it.

The Hay Festival App is developed in partnership with Changepond. We'd love to hear what you think and how we can improve it: support@festivaldata.net. Tickets are available on hayfestival.com.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 2.1.1 — 2026-10-28

Fixes and finishing touches for the Winter Weekend.

Your tickets – Tickets for an event that was renamed after you bought them now sync correctly to the app. If a ticket can't be matched to an event, your account screen says how many, and the count on the ticket fetch screen now counts this festival's tickets only.

Signing in – If you ask for more than one sign-in email, any of them works for its 15 minutes, not just the newest. If we can't send your email just now, the app tells you, rather than leaving you waiting.

The Map – Tap a car park's P for its details, prices and directions. The map glides to a stop when you let go, and zooms out a little further, so places at the edge aren't stuck in the corner.

The Programme – Sold out and Last few let more of the event's picture show through.

The first open – The programme's download progress shows if your connection is a little slow.

Plus other small fixes.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-10-26

Ready for the Winter Weekend.

Getting ready, step by step – Profile now walks you through four steps: your profile, your group, linking your Hay Festival Website account and assigning your tickets, and ticks each one off as you go.

Bring everyone in – Share your group with one code: show the QR code round the table or send the link on WhatsApp. Invitation emails open with a single tap, and children can join with the group code and their name, with no email address needed.

Your tickets, sorted – Checking for new tickets is much quicker, especially when nothing has changed, and a new screen shows them arriving. The organiser assigns the whole group's tickets on one screen.

Find your way – The Festival map now marks every venue and car park, and before you arrive the Map gives you directions to each car park, with parking tips.

Explore the full programme – Search now looks in each event's description too, the lists show each event's subtitle, and Sold out and Last few show across an event's picture. Swipe through events and you'll carry on into the next day. Your schedule is now incorporated into the Programme.

Never miss an answer – With the app closed, your phone tells you when someone is waiting to join your group, or when your answer has come. Anything that needs you sits at the top of Profile.

Getting to know the app – About now explains each tab, offers help, short tips show the gestures that have no label, and you can send us your feedback from inside the app.

Easier for everyone – Text grows to the largest accessibility sizes, with every screen rearranging to fit; colours are stronger; and the interface supports non-colour indicators.

Plus plenty of smaller fixes and improvements.
