It stops in the middle of the shows and shuts down, it can take several attempts to start up (using an LG TV) and I feel lucky if I can get it open. Was working great for a while but on the back of a recent price increase…this is getting ridiculous. If you’re going to ask viewers to pay MORE $ for an app.. please make the BARE MINIMUM of a working app worth it. ### 1/5 — Don’t do it!! *2026-08-13, version 2.54.0* If there’s another way you can watch your show without having to get this app, do it that way!! Trust me when I say you do not want the curse of having to deal with this app. The creators of this app do not care about the user experience, they only care about taking your yearly subscription and finding some stupid reason to increase it every year. I’ve dealt with this terrible app through so many stupid issues. The latest? Telling me I have to renew my subscription in August 2026, when my yearly subscription was paid for and renewed in March 2026. I lost access to my shows for a night. Nothing I did could fix it and miraculously it’s fixed now (??) Another thing Hayu looooooves to do is log you out from time to time and make you log in again for no apparent reason. It also CANNOT handle the offline download function, so if you’re trying to download your fave eps to watch during a flight, good luck. I really hate the inconvenience this app has bought to my life ### 3/5 — Very glitchy app *2026-08-13, version 2.54.0* Downloaded the app and signed up to the subscription, thinking everything is ok. But as soon as you start watching something the app is having errors. At one point the app became so glitchy that it’s forgotten that I’ve already paid for subscription and decided to log me out after a minute. When it came to logging back in again it took forever to sign in. Even after deleting the app, restarting my phone and then downloading again the episodes still won’t play. Some seasons of shows, I have missed 3-4 episodes because of this. The download capability is horrendous, unreliable and fails 9/10. Have to unplug my TV every night to stop it turning on randomly in the middle of the night. It constantly logs you out of the app on its own and when that happens it deletes all of the shows that you’ve downloaded. Error codes and having to log in multiple times or having to enter your password again while the background glitches out and doesn’t let you do so. ### 1/5 — Awful App *2026-07-21, version 2.53.2* The app never remembers where you left off viewing a show on one device, let alone should you dare to watch on a smart TV and then try continuing on a mobile device. Downloading shows to watch when you are offline is also infuriating. You download a few episodes of your favourite show and then the app randomly deletes some episodes so you cannot continue watching them in the intended order. I took a break from it and came back thinking that with all the improvements in technology, surely the app would have improved too — but unfortunately, it hasn’t. It constantly freezes, cuts out and struggles to play episodes properly. I can rarely get through an episode without it stopping or cutting out, sometimes multiple times in the same episode. It’s incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re paying for a streaming service. After all these years, I really expected better. It works absolutely fine for me with none of the bugs people refer to. Possibly they have updated? It’s also easy to end subscription so maybe they’ve fixed that too. I love food programmes so they are running 24/7. I use an apple phone & downloaded the app in April 2025 for reference. The first month was free to watch and then I subscribed. I had been subscribed for at 7 months when I received a message to say my free trial had expired and I needed to subscribe. This stopped me viewing anything. A little confused, I thought maybe the app had expired so subscribed again. After watching the app again for a further 5/6 months it displayed the same message, that my 1 month trial had expired so needed to subscribe and locked me out. This time I thought I’d just check that I had an auto renewal on the app from my iPhone. I looked at my payment history and found I had in fact been charged twice a month for the 5/6 months. I have tried contacting support at hayu, several times to sort out the payment problem and the fact I can not restored my purchase but still no answer from them. I hate that it still has the black bezels like I’m on an iPhone 6. Would make so much more sense to have it automatically go to current season and then you have to scroll back to past ones if you need to. ### 4/5 — Please fix the subtitles *2025-11-17, version 2.49.2* I love hayu for its range of different shows (especially the housewives franchise!) but the app is the only frustrating part of the service. It does crash every now and again which I can get over, but the subtitles have never once been in time with the show I am watching. The subtitles are always at least 10 seconds ahead of the audio, it doesn’t sound like a lot but that means that the subtitles are often a whole conversation ahead of the show.
