## What is HDZap?

HDZap is a manual lap timer for FPV drone racing.

Tap the LAP button as your pilot crosses the finish line — the split time instantly appears on their Digital FPV Goggle OSD via the M5StickS3 Bluetooth bridge.

No hardware? No problem. HDZap works as a standalone lap timer — race history, best laps, and pace tracking all work without any external device.

FEATURES
• One-tap lap recording
• Live lap time on Digital FPV Goggle OSD via ESP-NOW
• Race history with best lap and lap averages
• Share race results as an image
• Flight battery voltage and percentage from backpack telemetry
• Adjustable OSD layout
• Low-latency BLE connection

OPTIONAL HARDWARE (for OSD display)
• M5StickS3 (ESP32-S3) flashed with HDZap firmware
• Digital FPV Goggle with ELRS backpack

The firmware and setup guide are available at the support link below.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-07-30

Pace-only announcements
• The Audio master switch is now "Voice announcements", with "Announce lap times" as its own setting underneath. Previously the two were one switch, so turning lap times off also silenced the countdown and the race summary.
• Switch lap times off and leave "Announce need / bank" on, and each lap you hear just the pace correction — "need 0.2 seconds per lap" — with no lap number and no time.
• The best-lap call is independent, so a new fastest lap is still announced with lap times off.

Nothing changes unless you want it to: the new setting defaults to on, so announcements sound exactly as they did before.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-29

Pace split announcement
• Turn it on in Settings > Audio and the voice adds how far ahead or behind your target pace you are after each lap — "need 0.4 seconds per lap", "bank 1.2 seconds per lap", or "on pace".

Clearer race summary
• The per-lap correction now retires once it stops meaning anything. After you reach your target lap count, or once the race is over, the Need/Bank column shows a dash instead of a misleading rate. The signed total stays in the Diff column.

Fixes
• A finished race stays finished — changing Race Time afterwards no longer reverts the results screen or overwrites the DONE display on your goggles.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-05-29

HDZap Premium — a new optional subscription that swaps the default iOS voice for natural AI announcer voices for lap-time call-outs.

• Choose from 30 voices across AWS Polly and Microsoft Azure
• Both English and Japanese supported, with per-language voice picker
• Cancel anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions

Free tier is unchanged — the iOS system voice continues to work offline.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-05-18

• Spoken countdown ("ten, nine, ...") and "Final lap!" cue near the session end (toggleable in Settings).
• Press-down haptic on the large action buttons (LAP / STOP / RESET / SHARE / READY), paired with the existing release-edge haptic and a soft press-dim.
• Larger Elapsed and Remain readouts on the session bar — easier to read at a glance mid-race.
• Optional M5StickS3 bridge — pair directly with the goggle's ESP32 backpack if you prefer not to relay through the StickS3.
• Audio session stability fixes around TTS playback and BLE notifications.
• Flight-battery telemetry now reflects pack voltage from the very first lap.
