In the late fall there was a major update to the app with significant improvements making it well worth the $10 per month. However, there were error errors in the updates, which I told them about within the app in early December. It is now February and the errors have not been corrected. In a paid app, I would expect the developers to be more responsive. The errors relate to several activities that are missing the background noise and levels three and four. For example BL/L Male and S/ SW Female. This continues to be the best app I have found for improving my use of my new cochlear implant. The only thing that I wish could be added is a way to be able to replay the sound/word when I am unsure of what I actually head. Otherwise I am very happy and grateful for this app. ### 5/5 — Please add emotion identification *2022-08-10, version 1.2.21* Thank you for making such a great app to work on Audio Processing Disorder! I am really enjoying all of the variations of practice and immediate feedback to train my brain to communicate better in everyday conversations. The one thing that I would love to see added is a section on identifying emotion in speech. My TBI caused me to no longer be able to read facial expression and also to no longer identify emotions in speech. I can’t tell if someone is joyful, angry, sarcastic, joking, or scared etc. If there was a section to practice and train this deficit, I’m sure others would benefit from this practice as well. I have noticed these deficits sometimes in other people with acquired brain injuries as well as with some people with autism. They’re not perfect but they’re a good adjunct to some other exercises I do. What I don’t like is your lack of responsiveness to my inquiry on your website. I have tried repeatedly to upgrade but every time I try, I get a message that says in-app purchases are not allowed. If that’s the case, then how am I able to upgrade???? ### 1/5 — Stripped away everything *2024-08-26, version 1.3.156* They stripped away everything that was once available and made it paid. Kind regards, Elliot ### 2/5 — Too many glitches *2026-07-14* I really love the idea of this app. Unfortunately it is extremely glitchy. Sometimes it will not let me exit the app and I have to shut off my phone to get out of it. Other times the audio is just a wall of static. It has a function to send the audio to just one of your ears BUT IT NEVER WORKS! It is really a shame because it could be a great resource. ### 2/5 — Not fun anymore *2026-07-12* Hearoes used to be the best in a pretty dismal field of hearing apps for people with cochlear implants. That isn’t saying much, is it? The competition was, and is, pretty bad. Since early July 2026, Hearoes changed the way they score, making it much more difficult to follow one’s progress, and frankly, much less fun. It used to be kind of an enjoyable challenge. Now it’s just drudgery. I liked to see how quickly I could respond to get more points for a correct answer. Basically the same exercises haven’t changed, but they’ve drained any fun out of them. The “scoring”, such as it is, is confusing and pretty meaningless, eliminating any sense of accomplishment. ### 2/5 — Very Disappointed. Not for Americans. *2025-09-16* The concept is good, but the execution leaves something to be desired. The speakers have British accents. My husband recently had a cochlear implant, and I downloaded this app in order to mirror it on our television for better sound quality. Even with the enhanced sound quality, he and I both have some difficulty understanding (I have no hearing loss) some words. It would seem that in order to help someone with a new cochlear implant, speaking a bit more slowly and distinctly would be helpful. Some consonants seem to be swallowed, so he cannot hear the difference between the words. The speech is rapid and clipped. I know that in ordinary conversation, people don’t speak slowly and distinctly, but as an exercise for someone trying to learn to understand speech with a cochlear implant, one would expect the early exercises to be pronounced with more distinct enunciation, then working up to speaking more rapidly in later exercises. Combine that with the differences in inflection between American and British speech and it’s a set-up for failure if you’re American. My husband was discouraged after the first few rounds of exercises. What an individual needs at the early stages of trying to hear with a cochlear implant is a feeling of some success, not failure. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Hearing progress *2025-02-26* I truly love this app /game. It makes my hearing journey fun. I find that I happily train without realising and I can see improvements. The program seems to adjust to focus on sounds that I am struggling with. Learning to re-hear is difficult but this makes it easier and has some speed to it. Love it thank you ### 5/5 — Great app *2024-07-31* I don’t know if this existed four years ago when I got implanted the first time, but I just got my second implant and I have been rehabbing that ear. I have an inherited congenital hearing disability nonsyndromic, so my journey has been very long, through growing up in an oralist environment with hearing aids to learning ASL and finally first getting implanted when I was 36. I’m not sure what I was trying to say, but it’s not worth re-typing all this. Anyway, good app. Enjoyed the gamification. I don’t understand the chart at the end of each activity. Why does it show a history of scoring 0 if I just started using the app? How does it explain whether I’m making progress or not? Does it work by week or by day? It works well and seems to be free of glitches that plague some of the other rehab apps. The speakers sound natural and I have the option to add background sounds or not.
