### 4/5 — Extremely useful but buggy

*2026-07-03, version 5.1.4*

I’m using this to assess my HRV and DFA in relation to dysautonomia and long covid. It’s brilliant and has given me insights I wouldn’t have guessed, but it never survives the day on recording. Usually each day needs a couple of restarts and I only notice if I go to check it.

### 2/5 — Leider nicht ausgereift

*2026-02-22, version 5.1.4*

### 2/5 — Request to improve Data Export

*2025-12-24, version 5.1.2*

Dear Developer,
I would like to thank you for developing thins application! It’s really useful!
However, I am straggling with the data exporting. If I have longer measurements then the app is unable to export the whole data with any solution available in the app.

Could you help me with the data exporting?

I also can help you with measurements and feedback to you!

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Miklos

### 3/5 — Email export is not working

*2025-07-11*

The app crashes after clicking the export button. Export via iTunes and Dropbox also doesn’t work.

### 3/5 — App interessante, da rinnovare

*2025-03-01, version 5.1.2*

### 2/5 — Crashes every time

*2024-03-04*

This is a helpful tool, however this app crashes every time I use it, within half an hour. I’m using one of the HRV4Training recommended bands (Scosche). Renders this otherwise useful tool useless.

### 2/5 — Cannot upload to drop box

*2022-10-05, version 5.0.9*

I cannnot upload to Dropbox I’ve tried everything but can’t seem to do it

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2022-03-12, version 5.0.7*

I bought this to try and use it for the DFA-alpha1 testing of aerobic threshold but have also adopted using it for morning HRV logging. The morning logging is going well but the logging during runs has a fundamental flaw. Twice I have set out with everything running as required, but my phone in my waist belt so not visible to me. On return from the run I find the logger app is sat waiting for me to select the BT HR monitor, as though a drop out occurred at some point. Consequently most of the test run is wasted. My other running app, iSmoothRun, handles this fine since it has a setting to tell it which sensor to use at all times. This logger should do the same, whilst recording, if it has a drop out it should try and pick up the same sensor. Without this I cannot rate the app higher. It was not a cheap app.

### 4/5 — Looks like it could be great

*2022-02-20*

I’m re-doing my review bc I had some issues with the user interface and Dropbox, but the developer helped me fix it. It was really an issue on my end.

Things to note:
(1) I did not realise that when I got this, I’d be looking at a spreadsheet of values to help me work out my aerobic threshold level. That’s just where the field is at the moment, so I’m happy to do this, but this app won’t pop out a magic number like an ftp value to stick with for a while. The alpha-1 value is itself dynamic anyway, but I use it on a trainer to get a ball park value that I can implement when riding at Zone 2.

(2) If you do want to go out and ride with this to follow the alpha-1 threshold as you ride, then note you’ll need two sources of HR data (two hr straps) if you use a bike computer, since you’ll now also need your phone to record data. That is, unless your phone can connect to the HR strap at the same time as your bike computer.

(3) This really does require that you pay attention to what you’re doing. It’s not as simple as pedalling and then getting a number. The instructions really do need to be followed.

### 4/5 — Exzellente GUI + super Datenexport

*2021-08-10, version 5.0.7*

### 1/5 — Problem

*2021-03-22, version 5.0.4*

I have already made the test and everything was perfect but when I finished I tried to send it to my trainer but I could not.
I tried to send it to the drop box but this section did not work, after I tried to download it with the iTunes but it did now work as well.
Could anybody find the solution? Thank you.
The program would be great if this section worked.

### 2/5 — Funziona solo con il cardiofrequenzimetro a petto

*2021-03-03, version 5.0.0*

Soldi buttati

### 1/5 — HRV Logger

*2021-03-02, version 5.0.0*

I don’t know how good this is , as there are no instructions on how to set up , or what the results mean.

*2021-02-28, version 5.0.0*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes and No Refund

*2026-01-10*

Bought the app, crashes hard. Never worked, not updated in years, Apple and the greedy developer refused my request for a refund.

Stay away!

### 1/5 — Inutile con Apple

*2025-10-08, version 5.1.2*

*2025-08-03*

### 1/5 — Apple Watch wird nicht Unterstützt…

*2025-05-27, version 5.1.2*

Kt

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-04-16*

I just bought the app and it doesn’t work, I would like to have a refund!

### 1/5 — No Longer Relevant

*2024-05-24*

The creator of this app, and other physiology researchers, have proven that the DFA Alpha 1 method of determining aerobic threshold (AT) is deeply flawed and cannot provide a reliable indication of AT.
I wish I had know this before paying for it. Perhaps the author should make this more obvious.

### 1/5 — Export doesn’t work

*2023-02-14, version 5.1.0*

Worked great until I tried to export my data and none of the 3 options work. Contacted the developer on Twitter but no response. If you are looking to use the app to record your heart rate data for other analysis software then do not purchase until this is fixed.

### 1/5 — Loss of functionality

*2023-01-24*

The app inexplicably lost its ability to export files to Dropbox. I’ve tried deleting both Dropbox AND HRV Logger in an effort to make it work again (and lost all my data in the process). Still doesn’t work. Given the limitations of the app itself, exporting the data is critical. This loss of functionality severely handicaps the app.

### 1/5 — I would like a refund

*2021-08-28*

I have multiple Garmin HRM straps and the App does not recognize any of them. I don’t want to buy a new strap just to use this App

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Nice export option for the raw data

*2024-04-10, version 5.1.2*

I am using the app with a POLAR H10 to access HRV raw data, i.e. every single interbeat interval without prior artifact or outlier removal is available. That is very nice. And the quick responses by the developer team are excellent.

### 5/5 — Does the app support Fitbit watches?

*2024-02-08, version 5.1.2*

Hello! Love the app, thank you for developing it! I’ve used it successfully with my polar belt, but it is a bit inconvenient to wear it all the time. Can the app sync with my Fitbit watch? When I try to connect Bluetooth, it doesn’t seem to work.

*2022-09-20, version 5.0.9*

### 5/5 — Korrigiere

*2022-01-02, version 5.0.7*

### 5/5 — Interesting data and helps set Aero TH

*2021-03-27*

Used alpha one measurement and exported to a numbers to graph against HR. Interesting to see how it changes when you are not recovered also. Would be nice to see pacing information added to data

### 5/5 — Game Changer??

*2021-03-19, version 5.0.3*

Have been using this app over the past week to assess the reliability of using the DFA (alpha 1) metric to locate the Aerobic Threshold (aka ... VT1, LT1) for my athletes at Tri-High Performance. I have only been using a basic Bluetooth chest strap rather than the polar strap that HRV4TRAINING recommend to see if could be rolled out at minimal cost. When used indoors on a bike trainer or treadmill, I have found that a DFA (alpha 1) reading of 0.75, has consistently coincided with around 85% of Lactate Threshold Heart Rate (as determined by the final 20 minute HR of a 30 minute TT). This would certainly correlate very well with established AeT heart rate estimates. To support this, intensities that produce readings above 0.75 have always felt very ‘conversational’ , and intensities that produce values below 0.75 have always felt less than ‘conversational’. I this metric will prove to be a reliable resource to endurance athletes everywhere. I have had issues using it outdoors over variable terrain, but in a controlled environment - it has so far provided me with what appears to be an extremely useful assessment of heart rate at the aerobic threshold.

### 5/5 — Update V4.6.8 Working on iPad

*2021-01-13*

Thank you for the iPad update, have made and saved several measurements. Sensor selection is appreciated. I will check your web site to get more information on the “Workout” correction factor. More aggressive at higher heart rate makes sense but I would like to understand the details better.
The addition of DFA alpha1 is quite interesting. I will have to do some research as I have not used this feature in the past.
HRV Logger is a great tool for monitoring performance over longer periods of time. Thank You.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2017-04-27*

This is the best HRV app for people who like to track hrv data and then analyze it.

### 5/5 — Finally a no BS app.

*2016-12-28*

Bloated apps can be infinitely frustrating for data collection and analysis. This app gives you straightforward data collection and analysis with a simple user interface. I will probably purchase other developer apps individually just to support him. Nice to see an app that doesn't try to exploit human weaknesses/impulses or cater everyone at once. 🤗

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2016-08-05*

I use HRV4Training (same developer) daily and recommend it to all the athletes that I coach, as it is the best HRV app I've used. I purchased the HRV logging app for extended data analysis, and it works great. I sync'd directly to my Dropbox account (creating CSV files), allowing me quickly import the data into Excel. It has been extremely useful in allowing me to capture HR irregularities (PAC/PVCs), while working, sleeping, exercising or even sitting at my desk (with Bluetooth HR strap). A very effective logging tool!
