## What is Heart Rate Zones Plus?

Track your time in heart rate zones and reach your fitness goals

Take your fitness tracking to the next level with Heart Rate Zones Plus - designed for people who want to understand their heart rate zone performance, not just count steps or calories. Whether you're a dedicated athlete, a weekend warrior, or just starting your fitness journey, this app helps you monitor your heart rate zones, set meaningful goals, and visualize your progress in ways that matter.

Key features
1. Custom time periods
Understand your overall time per day, week, month, last 7 days, last 10 days or last 30 days in each heart rate zone.

2. Workout to zone attribution
Ever wondered which workouts actually contributed to time in Zone 2 or Zone 5? With the smart breakdowns, you don’t just see your total time in heart rate zones—you see exactly which workouts fueled those stats. This lets you answer questions like:
- Does swimming really push me into higher zones?
- How much time have I spend in Zone 2 this week?

You can also use the simplified aggregates moderate exercise (Zone 1-3) and vigorous exercise (Zone 4-5).

3. Set personal time goals for any zone
Motivation thrives with targets. With customizable goals, you can decide how many minutes you'd like to spend in each zone over a selected time period. Track your progress with sleek, animated bars that make your data easy to read and satisfying to follow.

4. Past Workouts and Days breakdown
Visualize the impact of each workout session and day in intuitive bars, color-coded by zone. This helps you to track, for example, if you really hit it hard two times a week or in your cycling workouts. It can also help you to check that your running is always just in Zone 2.

5. Multiple zone calculation methods
Not all hearts are the same, and neither are their training zones. Choose from a variety of scientifically-backed methods to calculate your maximum heart rate like:
- 220 – age
- 208 – 0.7 × age
Gender-specific formulas, such as:
- 216 – 1.09 × age (bio. female)
- 202 – 0.55 × age (bio. male)

Decide if you want to include resting heart rate into the zone calculation and use the Karvonen method.

You can also manually override your max heart rate and resting heart rate, giving you the power to personalize your training.

6. Setup manual zones
If you know your zones from a lactate measurement done by a sports medicine specialist or just want to mimic Zones of other apps, Heart Rate Zones Plus can do that. Setup with your custom beats per minutes.

7. Privacy
Your health data stays on your device. Nothing is saved or sent. Data is used only to locally calculate metrics.

8. Dark and light mode support
Whether you prefer a sleek dark mode for evening reviews or a crisp light mode during the day, the app respects your visual preferences.

Why this app?
This isn’t just another fitness tracker. It’s a focused, intuitive app built to help you understand your cardiovascular training through heart rate zone analytics. It's designed for people who train with intention—and want their data to reflect that.

### 4/5 — Cool idea but still a lil rough

*2026-01-12*

Needs some design/ux hard to use in some places, also should be able to make custom goals, I want 6 hours a week in zones 2-3 but cant currently do this, minutes in moderate exercise goal counts zone 1. Also for goals you should supports hours not just minutes. And custom goals should let you specify HR range for the goal. Also only using colors for HR zone charts is hard to read for people with color blindness issues.

### 3/5 — Connectivity

*2025-05-27*

I have the app on iPhone to most updated version. Wore Apple Watch while on elliptical. The zone completed shows up only in the Apple Fitness app under heart rate but doesn’t show up on Heart Rate Zones Plus app. Why?

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. Can you check please if the app has permissions to access all your workout / health data. You can do this in Settings > Health > Data Access > Heart Rate Zones +

If this does not help it’s probably because you are way more fit than the 220 - age method to calculate the zones predict. You can go to settings in the app and adapt the zones with the same bpm zone bounds as in apples workout app to get the same zone settings.

Hope this helps

### 5/5 — Good visualization!

*2025-05-05*

This app gives me the visualization that Apple should have built into the Health app itself. Basically it shows me the number of minutes I have spent at each heart rate zones compared to the goal.

The latest update adds the ability to customize the max heart rate, which is sorely needed. I never trusted the 220-age formula anyways; I'd rather go for a run at maximum speed and measure the heart rate there. I also recommend playing around with the settings, e.g. for me the Karvonen method gives much better results than the default.

If the developer is inclined I think having a companion Apple Watch app in the future would be a great addition. Sometimes I just don't bring my phone to the gym.

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot for that feedback. Both Widgets and Apple Watch app are on my list for future versions. I'm currently collecting a lot of ideas from users, so I sadly cannot promise which features will be next.

### 3/5 — No clue what “19/10 min” means

*2025-05-02*

Honestly, thought for a while but just don’t get it.

**Developer response:** Hi thanks for your feedback. 19/10 means you reached 19 minutes in a zone, where the goal of that zone was set to 10 minutes. With the next update of the app i will add an explainer and maybe also guide the user more into setting goals. In the current setup the goals are predefined to give users something to start with
