### 4/5 — Heartline

*2023-01-15, version 1.7.1*

At first it seemed very confusing to me but now I feel I am “catching on”. Not sure if there is a way to organize the info and activities being sent out but I’m fine just catching the different items as I come across them. It would be good to know if I have taken the necessary actions and followed your instructions to make my info and data available to you. Feedback.

Don’t know if I got into the sleep study in time. Primary problem is checking on additional info/studies in a timely manner.
Need to move my Heartline icon for viewing more quickly I guess.

### 4/5 — Somewhat mixed feelings

*2022-05-27, version 1.6*

Many of the ideas in the short articles they send to the phone are good but pretty basic, sometimes almost seeming dumbed down for the readers. Also, I just read some good ideas for balance exercises but you can’t go back and read articles again once you’ve finished them the first time. For exercises with several steps or for any new ideas, that’s unhelpful, to say the least, for an app that is intended to encourage heathy behaviors. Some of the surveys that are supposedly for research are poorly constructed - for example, some have left out obvious choices so you have no way to give a true answer. That means the survey results are biased because respondents either have to lie or not finish the survey. Finally, this app rating on the Apple store is the only way I’ve found to give any feedback. In spite of these flaws, I do think the effort is worthwhile.

### 5/5 — End of Heartline Study

*2022-05-17, version 1.6*

I enjoyed being part of the Heartline study the past two years. Because of the study and wearing an Apple Watch, I was able to record when I was suddenly in AFib and contact my cardiologist. I had no symptoms. The study and watch could very well have saved my life.

My one criticism is that today I found out that my involvement with the study is winding down and will end in a year. I thought my involvement was open ended and would continue indefinitely especially since I am now diagnosed with AFib. It’s like being kicked to the side of the road now that my data is no longer needed. But given the history of Big Pharma and High Tech, I shouldn’t have been surprised. But still, I am disappointed. It would have been helpful to know from the beginning that the study was not open ended.

### 5/5 — Easy peasy

*2022-04-18, version 1.6*

This app is not only easy to use but also easy to understand and put into good use during your day. I’ve been using this app for just over a month and find it helpful to me to monitor my progress. It’s excellent of keeping track of your daily exercise and seems to be more accurate in the fitness trackers I’ve worn in the past. I will say you do have to be proactive and remember to ignite what exercise you are doing and sometimes I would forget to do that. The subtle reminders are nice and I do enjoy the breathing exercise that it offers a couple of times during the day. It reminds me to slow down, catch my breath, and relax.

### 5/5 — Extremely Helpful Medical Tool

*2021-12-20, version 1.5.0*

The app is simple to use. It interacts with your Health app & Motion. It gives you a “challenge” every Monday to walk for 1 or 2 minutes every hour for 12 hours. Starts out just a few days a week & increases to 7. I’ve found that easy to do. It’s visual in your Health app & on your Apple Watch. You also earn points by reading the articles on a health topic as they are posted each Monday in the Heartline app. These points are worth money. I’ve had palpitations every great now & then for 12 years or so. The last 2 years the frequency & how long it lasts has increased. Spring of 2021 I found this app & the study. I signed up & got Apple 6 watch & discovered that these were episodes of atrial fibrillation lasting up to 1-1/2 hours. I showed my doctor the info on my iPhone and he sent me to cardiologist. They did a month long EKG which confirmed the atrial fibrillation & started me on Eliquis, a blood thinner, to help prevent strokes. All the other tests were ok. I return my doctor soon to find out what next. I highly recommend this app and joining the study as it may have saved my life and/or quality of life.

### 5/5 — Heartline makes me move

*2021-11-08, version 1.4.3*

I joined the study because I am over 67 and had wondered about my heart health. I now have a free Apple Watch and it has been telling me when to move and has several options for types of exercise. You can change your goals and it let you know when you reach them. I can check my ECG and see how my heart is responding. There are exercise videos you can watch and support groups you can join. I swim and the watch is water resistant! I’m very pleased with the program and Looking forward to discovering more features.

### 5/5 — Turns out I have Afib and didn’t know it

*2021-10-27, version 1.4.3*

Less than 2 months after signing up I received my first alert.. it lasted 14 hrs, two months later it lasted 3 days..and my third one week and only stopped after I started a Beta blocker and antiarrythmic. Two of the three I had no symptoms… the last one lasted long enough that the cardiologist was able to do a tracing in the office.. confirming what the watch was telling me. When I started I thought the rings were just a gimmick… but I found myself compelled to close the rings.. and increase the goals , losing 15 pounds over 7 months. So far so good.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2021-10-25, version 1.4.3*

I have learned so much relating to activity, moving, standing and the heart, even being a retired RN. The app has been an excellent motivator to exercise routinely. Even requiring a cane for assistance in ambulation I have been able initially to walk at least one half mile in each workout session due to the app; the incentives are very encouraging to step up into a healthier lifestyle. Being 80 years old and living a low cardio lifestyle I realized my overall heart and brain health needed improvements and Heartline is doing that. I find myself being aware and watching for each hour to stand up and walk around for at least one minute every day. Using Heartline I am confident my overall health will improve.

### 5/5 — Very informative

*2021-09-13, version 1.4.3*

As I was approaching 70 years of age, I felt I should do whatever I could to maintain or improve my health. A friend had told me about the Heartline program so I enrolled and got the Apple Watch for free! About 10 days after starting to use it, I was watching TV while relaxing on the couch. I heard a little noise from my watch and it told me that it had detected an irregular heartbeat. I was instructed to perform an ECG which told me that I was in a fib. It was a total surprise as I had no symptoms or past history. It then instructed me to consult my doctor and she sent me to get a heart monitor. I wore it for two weeks and to my surprise I had 25 episodes of a fib in that two weeks. Again, no symptoms to alert me that there was a problem. So then I had to have an echo cardio gram to check how my heart was functioning. Everything checked out fine in my heart so now I am on a blood thinner and a beta blocker. I’m so grateful to have learned this before a big problem presented itself. Now the Heartline app is sending me all kinds of good information to help me understand how to better care for myself. I can’t say enough good things about it. I talked my husband into joining the study as well and now we are both working hard to get our rings to close!

### 5/5 — Heartline review

*2021-08-30, version 1.4.3*

I’m pretty pleased with the apps. I take my blood pressure a couple times a day and record under “Vitals” along with body temp. I like seeing my sleep details and heart rate, ECG, blood oxygen levels.

The Stand challenge really motivates me to move around more. Rather than doing lots of physical work around the house/yard all in one hour, I now spread it out so I’m moving regularly every hour. This has helped my body stay more flexible and clearly reduces stiffness on humid days.

The walking/outdoor exercise app shows split time for miles walked, calories burned.
I wish it would immediately remind me during a walk with my dog when we stop, hit pause to restart again. A beep or vibration would be useful.

I like that I can create “Other” on it to log vacuuming, gardening, digging, raking, shooting baskets with my grandson.

Only thing that frustrates me is the flights climbed for stairs. I’m up and down my steps at least 10+ times a day. However, since stairs in my 1910 row house are only 13 or 14 stairs, I rarely get credit unless I swing my arm vigorously going up and pretend to keep climbing. Now at my age, I like keeping a hand on the stair railing going up or down. So I wish Heartline would recalibrate the number of steps per stair case climbed and let us tell you the number of stairs per staircase.

### 5/5 — So Far So Good

*2021-08-23, version 1.4.1*

Covid has, as for many, changed my life dramatically. In December 2020 while enjoying retirement in Mexico I became ill with a respiratory infection. This has been a chronic issue since my lungs are weak from childhood polio. It advanced to Covid pneumonia and I was air evacuated to the states. In the ensuing 7 months I had 2 cardioversions and a catheter ablation due to arrhythmia and afib, fluid drained from my lungs, diagnosed with a boatload of heart, lung and kidney issues and too many hospital stays. I am 75 and wish to be as proactive with my health as possible and enjoy a good quality if life. This study has afforded me a new way to monitor my heart health and I am grateful. Very easy to enroll and have just started my Actions for the week. Thank you for this opportunity.

### 5/5 — Heartline-a game changer

*2021-08-16, version 1.4.1*

Just got into the study and learning how to use my Series 6 Apple Watch. I found the support from both the Heartline and Apple great as I had several questions. It is, to my surprise, somewhat enjoyable to get a reminder to “breath mindfully “with a clever GIF for timing. The EKG rhythm strip is of high quality and very easy to use. Integration of the various segments of the study is well done. It is minimally intrusive so far and I think a real game changer for patients with a family history of atrial fib or who just have extra heart beats, like myself, and want to monitor it at home.
So far, it fills my needs and Seems to be a well designed study. Also, you can withdraw from the study without any penalty.
I will write a followup review in about 6-8 weeks.
Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Great motivator

*2021-07-19, version 1.4.1*

This is an update after using Heartline and Apple Watch for 3 weeks, this has been a game changer for me, I’m 72 and always been active, but this year was having trouble staying motivated to exercise, then I found this study, it’s very informative, keeps me on track for exercising every day, my stomach in flattening, my joint pain is nil, I’m eating healthy, this is just what I needed and I can’t say thanks enough, the watch is fantastic, the points add up, for all those responsible for getting this study rolling, kudos to you, you’re helping a lot of seniors live more productive and extended lives, ❤️

Enjoying the challenges, love the watch, the reminders, keeps me focused on my heart health!

### 5/5 — My new best friend!

*2021-05-24, version 1.4.0*

This app is exactly what I needed to stay on top of my health. I am a visual person so being able to see how I am progressing toward my ring goals is highly motivating for me. I like the reminders to stand. I am often surprised that time has passed so quickly when reminded to stand, and a testament to how easy it is to sit for too long. I like competing with myself. Even though the goal may be 5 days a week currently to meet ring goals, I feel proud of myself when I not only meet, but exceed goals. I think of the Iwatch and app as a very loving mother who wants the very best for me. Thus, my new best friend.

### 1/5 — Heartline Study

*2023-04-01*

Contacted once by a person with the study after months of waiting to find out why my apple watch I’d received could not be paired with my 7S iphone, I signed up and listed to join the study. That one time was the only actual exchange of communication. I was informed I could not use the apple watch as an iphone 8 or higher was needed. Then i received another communication to return the watch. I requested instructions and mailing labels and packaging to do so… THEN I got one other communication to participate in the study without the watch….. I did NOT. I still have the brand new watch btw, and to this day have never received a mail label or packaging to return the watch, nor any other follow up in response or follow-up to the study.
This request for the final two days to ‘wrap up’ is the only other communication I’ve received.
So discouraged by the poor effort and guidance in communication and misleading/incorrect info for this ‘study’. Very negative experience.

### 1/5 — No room for me…

*2022-04-24, version 1.6*

Informs me because I have an Apple Watch there’s no availability to register. I wonder if I can unpair my watch and sneak onto the app. I’m scared the app will retaliate somehow down the line. Maybe shock me thru the charging induction coils somehow, intentionally cause a heart attack? I’m only sort of joking.. the wording of the rejection dialog .. I’m trying to remember exactly what it said but it was quite jarringly terse, even rude. I’ve read a number of similar reviews from people who said the way the app tells people they don’t qualify is abrupt in the extreme, even after having invested many minutes in applying, apparently. I was just told summarily that people with Apple watches need not apply. Please, don’t reply to this review with some boilerplate about how when the maximum number of enrollees blah blah blah.. My issue is that you devs or copy writer or UX designer or whoever appropriate to the design and maintenance of the app can *easily* word your rejection text in a vastly more kindly manner. Why don’t you?

### 1/5 — Can’t use an apple watch in the iPhone only group

*2021-01-10, version 1.3*

I told my sister that my fitbit was dying and I was looking at apple watches. She told me about this study and that she had joined it getting a discounted apple watch in the process. I decided to give it a try. The material clearly states that you can randomly be placed in an apple watch group or IPhone only group. I drew the iPhone only group, go figure. The problem is after your group assignment is when it tells you for the iPhone only group you cannot wear an apple watch during your time in the study. I use my fitbit for steps, heart rate and much more. As stated earlier it is having issues (its over 3 years old) and I was going to replace it with an apple watch. Now if I want to remain in the study I cant wear an apple watch? If I am in the iPhone only group what does it matter if I wear an apple watch. For me this will be a step backwards in monitoring my exercising and heart rate.

### 2/5 — Oops!

*2023-01-24, version 1.7.1*

Just offering caution so that others don't make or fall into the same errorneous mistake as I did. Accurate medical health history in the sign-up process was not able to provided due to the page slipping by before info could be added/subtracted/corrected. Could well have been my mistake, but somehow it happened without my knowledge. There was no way to go back to correct it, even with a phone call to the Help Line. The Help Line Rep was very kind and knowledgeable, and was only able to provide a note to my account if Researchers decide more information is needed. Doubtful in the sea of humanity they're dealing with. It's personally disappointing as I'm a retired healthcare provider who likes to give back to Researchers, and feel this is only contributing bogus information.

### 3/5 — Heartline

*2023-06-15*

Overall, I’d like the information provided by the app. However, I missed many points because of the lack of sync between my watch and the phone. I completed almost all the exercises, but particularly near the end of the study, it looks like I didn’t, because I didn’t get credit for hardly any of them. We need a way to be able to access an archive to redo exercises that don’t come through with credit. I’ve been doing this so long I feel a sense of loss that the study is over so I hope you will continue to collect data from us to benefit mankind and to help people with heart conditions. On a separate note, I would like to have a blood pressure app on my Iwatch because that is very important and I am missing it. I would also like to have some kind of thermometer. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the study. I found the feedback of the Asa portion, extremely valuable, and help me determine sometimes whether to call EMS. My doctor reviewed the data every time I went into the Cardiologist’s office I know he found it helpful, too.

### 3/5 — Can’t get an answer to my question

*2022-05-12, version 1.6*

I am very happy to have joined the Heartline study, which I think is interesting and worthwhile. I was assigned to the watch group and I have greatly increased the length and frequency of my activities since joining. I would have given the study more stars except for one issue. I wrote a question about the study description in the app and got a swift response that didn’t answer my question. I wrote back restating the question and the second response took longer and still didn’t answer my question. In fact, I found the responses patronizing, and I’m now wondering if the researchers are using AI to respond to inquiries. I understand that this is a very large study involving a lot of people, but we are giving the researchers access to a tremendous amount of private data that they can use for decades, so some reciprocity would be appreciated.

### 3/5 — Review

*2021-09-25, version 1.4.3*

HEARTLINE help line does not answer phone calls in a timely way. Your online help also doesn’t. Last week I asked if my new Apple Watch is water proof for swimming- one of the activities included in my activities list. I still have not had an answer.
Also, I would like to let HEARTLINE know that I am unable to continue walking 3-4miles/day due to a loose pittbull attacking my dogs & my subsequent fall from sidewalk to street. I now have bilateral sciatica & am walking in my home with a walker. Not sure how to contact them
I appreciate being in this study since I have heart disease on both sides of my family. I appreciate the reminders on my Apple Watch to stand & breathe. Wonderful👍

### 3/5 — Not built for scale

*2021-03-29, version 1.3*

This is a preliminary review because it has so far taken hours to sign up... I will edit later if star rating improves with use... when I get that far! The story to date:
Way too much redundant legal statements to read and agree. Then the Step 1 / Step 2 as explained in Heartline app to link Medicare with app are contradicted by what actually happens (Original Medicare + Supplement Plan G gets recognized and treated as Medicare Advantage). Basic misunderstanding of Original Medicare w/ Supplement vs Medicare Advantage. Then, the server went down. Then, support took 30mins to answer. Then at final stage, got the app msg: “Failed to set up app, please check your internet connection and try again” (no prob with my internet, so I guess app server overloaded). I do hope the security is working better than everything else so far! This trial seems like a great idea, but I wish the app and signup process were better tested before go-live.

### 3/5 — Just Trying It Out

*2020-12-18, version 1.3*

Ok I saw the article on the app & the possible i watch @ $49
I have a iwatch 3, but not sure about putting it on the watch if I don’t qualify for the upgrade to the current model
What if I don’t qualify ??
I tried calling the number, but spent 2 minutes on hold without anyone answering
I wanted to get my question answered before I put the app on my watch
I’ve still not gotten an account completed I would guess due to not putting the app on my watch ??
I have gotten to the opening part where it tells me there is a iwatch detected and I need to put the app on the watch then come back to the page
Kindly fill me in on things
I had a Fitbit Versa & enjoyed it, but Fitbit watches seem to only last a year or 2 then they die
Mine did after 2 years, but I got it on facebook market place cheaper then regular cost
The owner was a kid & he didn’t like it do he sold it
I really liked the sleep tracker cause it gave me some insight into how my sleep was going
It really opened my 👀s on what happens in my sleep
But the iwatch 3 I also got on facebook market place doesn’t include the sleep tracker so I miss out on my sleep data
So now I find this, but not sure I want to put the app on both devices then not qualify & the app has to be deleted

### 3/5 — Prefer Fitbit

*2020-10-18, version 1.3*

I got the Apple Watch for the heartline study after using the versa Fitbit for over a year. Because of balance and pain issues, the only exercise I can do is aquacise. The Fitbit has great graphs for my workout, showing how much time is peak cardio, fat burning and below zone. I can also look at the face and see the steps I have done. I was unable to get the face added to my Apple Watch, a flower that blooms as I get more steps in. I can’t find any of these things on the heartline app.
Another thing I can’t find is a sleep graph. I used to be able to see a graph that showed REM, deep and light sleep plus periods where I woke up. So far, I can’t find these things on this app. Perhaps as I wear it more, I will discover more features. But for now I am disappointed. The only added plus I can see is the ability to take an actual ECG.

### 5/5 — My Heartline research study life

*2023-04-13*

I am so thankful and grateful for being able to participate in this study. It changed my life for the better. It’s been an amazing 2 years that’s quickly gone by. I have learned a great deal about myself. The articles to read are short and concise. The watch part of the study is a tool I hope to have forever. So much joy from it. I have contacted customer support once when my phone needed to be replaced and they are superior people that focus on you!! Great problem solvers they are and so patient for a 70 year old chick. I morphed from my former unstructured self into an improved model by participating in this study. My preset watch has helped me in so many ways it’s difficult for me to put into words. I have tremendous respect for the researchers and their knowledge to help me and others from the data collected from the study. I am sad it’s ending for me, but I will continue working on my own with the framework instilled into me. Many heartfelt thanks to all for this life changing journey!!

### 5/5 — This app might have saved my life.

*2023-02-05, version 1.7.1*

Despite being in “perfect health,” I joined the study post-covid in mid-2021 thinking it might be a good idea to have something monitor my heart. After a couple of months I began getting alerts of “rapid heart rate during periods of inactivity.” These became increasingly frequent and I decided I needed to have this checked out. I was due for my annual “wellness check” but with covid still raging and the healthcare system overwhelmed, I might have let it go were it not for these alerts. Long story short, after extensive testing I was diagnosed not with heart problems but with a rare form of blood cancer that was damaging my kidneys. Treatment has been successful and I am now in remission. Had I not been alerted by my watch (which I only obtained because of the study), my outcome might have been very different.

### 5/5 — Heartline

*2023-01-30, version 1.7.1*

This is a pretty complete and very wordy application that keeps track of your health as related to your heart. It is supposed to see if electronics can detect a fib (atrial fibulation) faster than other means leading to more effective treatment. You are expected to do certain things and receive rewards ($) for their completion. It is a bit time consuming but not terribly intrusive. I plan to stay in the program for the 2 or 3 years it will encompass. Also they got me a $350 discount on an Apple Watch series 7.
I have been in the program for about a year, and have learned a great deal about heart health. This is a useful tool and I recommend it.

### 5/5 — Smooth function, a bit TMI

*2022-12-20, version 1.7.1*

The app certainly shows thorough adherence to informed consent, perhaps to a fault. Any question I might have about the study is answered, multiple times in multiple contexts. All the buttons and steps work the way they should to get me through the process. I just joined, ordered my smart watch, etc. No snags so far. Update: I’m glad to be part of this study. Love the watch, responding to its clever motivational elements, and the app side of things works flawlessly, which is saying a lot!
Update: some of the information felt condescending. Exercises did not take account of my disability, so many of them were useless to me.

### 5/5 — Your study saved my life

*2022-11-21, version 1.7*

I’m pretty sure Heartline saved my life. On July 21, 2022, early in the morning, my Apple Watch tapped me on my wrist and told me I was in AFib. It also contacted my family. After consulting with my primary care doctor and a cardiologist, they ran several tests on me including wearing a heart monitor for a month. They found that I do have AFib. My primary care doctor increased my blood pressure medication and now I am under the care of a cardiologist who put me on blood thinner medication. Since three of my grandparents and my father died of strokes there is a good chance that the same thing could happen to me. I wouldn’t have even known that I had a heart problem if it hadn’t been for the your study. My Apple Watch now also keeps track of my AFib History, which is a little scary, but at least now I know that I need to keep an eye on it. Thank you so much for possibly saving my life.

### 5/5 — Contribute to huge health study, easily

*2022-10-13, version 1.7*

Make sure the world a healthier place, and check your vitals anytime time. Not for the paranoid - sharing your pulse rate!

After using the Heartline Study on my Apple Watch for a while, it’s really useful for the user as well as the researchers. So interesting to be able to check heart rate, blood oxygen, ECG, activity level any time, any where. It even checked to see if I crashed my car when I was washing a slippery watermelon in the sink - so I know that function works on the Series 7. And I can answer my phone! Real time numbers for me, and real time data for the study, automatically. We can help ourselves and help each other, for free. Highly recommended, and I’m looking forward to the glucose monitoring. Technology at it’s best.

### 5/5 — Enjoying the study so far

*2022-09-12, version 1.6*

I've been participating in the study for about a month now and enjoying the motivation it gives me. The "stand" ring makes me aware of how much time I spend sitting and reading in the afternoons, so now I get up and move around a bit every hour. I also like seeing my exercise progress as I play pickleball three times a week. I hope to learn more about my health, exercise and movement over the next couple of years through this study. BTW, I'm 73, retired, and consider myself to be active and healthy.

### 5/5 — Great Study

*2022-07-28, version 1.6*

I found the Heartline Study to be very rewarding knowing that the research would go into saving lives. The weekly information was always informative and useful.

The only negative is the rewards program they set up. Personally I don't think they needed a rewards program but if you choose to do one then more consideration should be given to the implementation. The biggest negative is how you redeem the rewards. What you buy can't be more than the value of the card. Almost anything you buy you'll end up with left over cash you CAN'T spend.

### 5/5 — Apple Watch 7

*2022-06-07, version 1.6*

Love, love, Love this watch.
I alerts me when my blood sugar is low or high. It tracks my exercise. I can swipe to get into the YMCA, library or swipe and click to use Apple Pay.
Most of all, it gives me the feeling of always having someone who cares nearby when it thinks I fell, really I was clapping for my dog but security feels right. It even answers my phone, works with Alexa, allows me to check my messages and email.
Health wise I am feeling my confident everyday with this watch keeping tabs on my EKG, O2 sats, Heart rate and I could go on and on.
Oh I am 65 years and a retired Registered Nurse.
