I mean, with the name “heart out” and the icon being a big heart, it really seems like I’m some desperate person looking for a dated but nope, I’m just submitting a recording for a music competition ### 5/5 — Heart Out *2021-03-08, version 1.8.1* Great App, Awesome and easy! If you can follow simple directions, it’s the app for you! For those that say it “doesn’t work” I can say you didn’t follow the instructions. Tech support was outstanding for the setup of our festival and response time to any questions was great. We had 500+ entries and we will be hosting again this way next year. ### 2/5 — Good idea, poor execution *2021-03-03, version 1.7.13* Ideas for improvement: 1. If students have to submit more than one piece, please allow the user to see the code for each piece in the audition title. Otherwise it is very confusing. 2. I experienced problems uploading PDF files to the correct audition. The app seemed to confuse my scans and use them interchangeably with the auditions. ### 4/5 — Worked well! *2021-03-01, version 1.7.13* I was very happy with the app. I had 47 students to record and submit recordings. I did most of these on my phone. What I noticed is that most of the issues we had were either user error or a phone that was an older phone. There are certainly a lot of directions to follow, but if they are followed carefully the app works great almost every time! I also had the opportunity to act as a judge this past weekend, so I could see the app from the other side. I was very pleased with how easy it was to use. I was able to judge on my laptop, iPad and my phone! ### 5/5 — Great app ! *2021-02-27, version 1.7.13* This app gave all the hardworking music students in south Florida an opportunity to still okay their federation auditions even though it could not be done in person this year. I’m so ma y ways, it was perfect ! Very user friendly, had the ability for the student to relax in the audition because of having more than one opportunity to record and upload. After receiving the rating the student could download the recording along with the judges comments all in one file. And for the jurors, what a great opportunity to rate all the students on a schedule that was cost convenient to write well thought out constructive comments instead of being driven by the in person click schedule to finish all in one sitting. EVERYTHING was listed step-by-step in tutorials. Customer service is lightning fast. We had 3 attempts (controlled by the judges, not HeartOut) which was great because I could listen back before deciding which to submit. People complain because they didn’t read instructions/watch tutorials provided... what else is new. I’d give it 10 stars. I had to get them to reset my auditions and still, it didn’t save any of my recordings and it says that there is a “wifi problem” when there literally wasn’t. Glitchiest app award goes to “HeartOut” ### 1/5 — Good idea but the app is annoying *2021-03-30, version 1.8.1* This app is annoying. I have used it for two auditions and both times the app glitched multiple times causing me to delete and reinstall the app. The first time I made second chair and I’m still waiting on the results of my second audition so I’m not just salty. On my second audition though, it shorted me a response. I was supposed to have 3 responses but every time I tried to do the third one it kept saying “there was an error, try again.” I was going to delete the app and reinstall, but the instructions were clear to not exit the audition. Literally spent an hour utilizing the test recording, acoustics, etc. Finally time to record, following all directions from the tutorial and my teacher. Felt really good because the real thing was my best run through yet. Except for the fact that after all that, heartout decided to not save my audition. No I didn’t close out the app or log out or literally anything other than to tap the heart button to conclude recording. Figured that I would at least get to preview the recording but nope. It’s floating around in cyberspace somewhere and my head hurts too much to troubleshoot it right now. I procrastinated and auditioned on the day it was due. It took forever to upload and I ended up missing the audition date. Luckily, the judges gave people like me a second chance. I was still furious to the point where I was crying. But it turns out, I had no storage on my phone (not to mention our internet was horrible). After deleting a few things, it worked just fine. I still don’t really like recording auditions. However, I got over the personal demons I was battling, and I’ve come to peace with this app. It’s not that bad. It gets so much hate, and I get it. Being a student with a lot going on, taking my personal time to record a video audition feels like more of a burden than going to a live audition. It feels optional when it isn’t. But at least I get three chances?? It’s easy to operate and the instructions are straightforward. I don’t have any problems with it anymore. I get very frustrated spending countless hours on self taping, and having the change to do one live tape and send it in was really, really great. It felt the closest thing to being in person/over zoom, and I like preparing myself mentally to make it happen just as I would in the room!
