## What is Heartwood Diary?

Heartwood Diary is a quiet multi-year diary for remembering life at its own pace. It opens on today's date, gives you room to write what feels worth keeping, and over time brings back the same day from earlier years.

Write a line. Add a photo. Record a voice note. After months and years, your diary becomes more than a collection of notes. It becomes a way to notice how days, places, and feelings move through your life.

Text, photos, and voice
Capture more than words. Save photos, audio clips, and mood with each entry. If enabled, Heartwood can also add place and weather; weather uses Apple Weather/WeatherKit.

Gentle insights
See patterns without scores, streak pressure, or performance. Heartwood helps you notice writing habits, recurring themes, and how the tone of your diary changes over time.

Words for the day
Begin with a quote or a small moment from history on this date, if you like. You can also choose to be greeted only by your own words.

Privacy from the start
Local-first. No account required. No ads or tracking. Your diary starts locally on your device and can sync with your own iCloud if enabled. Apple Weather/WeatherKit is used for weather when enabled.

Lock with Face ID or Touch ID
Protect your diary with the lock built into iOS, so your notes stay yours.

Premium for peace of mind
With Premium, you can create encrypted backups and exports, sync your diary across devices with your own iCloud, and make a printable copy. Backups and exports require a password and are encrypted before they are saved or shared.

Heartwood Diary is now on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. The widget quietly shows that today is waiting for a line, and that this date carries something from an earlier year — without revealing a word of it. Your writing stays in the app.

Three widgets to choose from — Heartwood Diary, Words for the day, and Countdown — with sizes for both iPhone and iPad. Touch and hold a widget to choose what it shows. “Write a line” is also available in Control Center and on the Lock Screen, and you can assign the control to the Action button.

Say “Write a line in Heartwood Diary” to Siri and it lands at the end of today’s page. You don’t need to unlock to write. Siri can only add text — your entries are still visible only in the app.

We’ve improved stability and made refinements under the hood.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-20

You can now choose a separate six-digit diary passcode, with optional Face ID or Touch ID. When enabled, your device passcode cannot unlock the diary.

With Premium, you can now star quotes you want to keep and find them again in Settings → Daily content. The quote of the day now stays with you for the whole day and changes the following day.

New, gentle milestones mark 10, 50, 100, and 200 days in your diary. Insights now show how your first patterns are taking shape.

We’ve also improved text scaling and the way people and places are recognized in Insights.
