### 2/5 — Don’t think this is reliable

*2026-03-03, version 1.8.1*

Not really confident in this app. Did the test twice within minutes in the same conditions. First time I got 49, second time I got 80 and I actually found the second time harder to hear! Seems too big a difference to not be an app issue

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-07-13, version 1.8*

Instead of number it just play a annoying loud wheezing

### 2/5 — Kind of annoying, only one voice accent definitely has an effect

*2025-07-03, version 1.8*

For me, in English (American), there should be an option to have someone with an American accent. It’s a test where you enter the numbers the person says over white noise. But they have some sort of Australian sounding accent… I don’t know that I could understand them 100% without any noise lol. Ok concept, needs options. I suggest a long pause between rounds because of the “ghosting” imprint in your brain the white noise makes.i feel like there are better apps out there, sadly.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2023-06-30, version 1.5.0*

All I hear is static ?

### 1/5 — Not working

*2023-03-05, version 1.4.2*

Only white noise- no digits are being said

### 1/5 — This version doesn’t recognize headphones

*2023-02-17, version 1.4.0*

What happened. I tried different headphones, which were paired to my phone, but kept getting an error message. Please fix it!

### 1/5 — App doesn’t detect my bluetooth earphones, always loads in Spanish when launching through ICOPE app

*2023-02-14, version 1.4.0*

This app doesn’t detect either my Beats Studio Buds nor my Jabra Elite 7 Pros so I cannot complete the test. It always launches in Spanish despite my devices being set to English when launched via the WHO ICOPE app. I cannot perform the test in Spanish as I don’t know the digit names in this language. Please fix this.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t recognize AirPod pro

*2023-02-01, version 1.4.0*

I have my air pod pros in my ear and paired with my phone but the app tells me nothings connected?

### 1/5 — Awful app

*2023-01-17, version 1.4.0*

Doesn’t connect to my earbuds. Using a different set of earphones the results vary wildly.

### 1/5 — Utterly Useless

*2022-12-15, version 1.4.0*

I had high hopes for this app but it's useless. The app does not start the test because it could not detect my headphones that are paired with my phone (Bose Bluetooth headphones. They are working perfectly). I only got through the first step of determining that the background noise level is good for the test.

### 1/5 — Not recognizing any headphones

*2022-12-06, version 1.4.0*

The app has stopped recognizing any set of headphones I connect.

### 1/5 — White noise

*2022-11-27, version 1.3.0*

The White noise is heavy-handed and the UK English is too much of an accent making it hard to focus. Scored 48 on both times.😡

### 1/5 — Worthless. Won’t recognize earbuds

*2022-10-24, version 1.3.0*

Won’t recognize that earbuds are paired, even though the obviously are. Tried multiple times with same result. Worthless. I deleted it.

### 1/5 — Will not work.

*2022-10-21, version 1.3.0*

The app will not recognize when earbuds are connected with an iPhone 13 so it’s useless.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t see headphones

*2022-10-18, version 1.3.0*

I tried Beats and another headset and this app did not recognize either one no matter how many times and in what sequence I connected and disconnected and opened and closed the app. This renders it virtually useless.

### 1/5 — App won’t connect to my AirPods

*2022-10-18, version 1.3.0*

I can only hear the app when I tap my earphone to start music, then I get music and thd instrutions. Otherwise it’s dead silence.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I can’t hear the digits

*2025-11-28, version 1.8.1*

Like some other people, I can hear the noise just fine (very loud) but I cannot hear the digits at all.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2025-07-16, version 1.8*

The accent of the woman (South African?) makes it hard to understand her sometimes! Useless test as a result…

### 1/5 — Sounds like white noise to me

*2025-06-25, version 1.8*

I guess I really need to get my hearing checked for real because I don’t hear what they are talking about at all!

### 1/5 — Does not work?

*2025-03-16, version 1.5.1*

Could only hear the background noise and did not hear any numbers. Used 2 different headphones (Apple wired headphones and AirPods) and couldn’t get either to work.

### 1/5 — No voice/numbers at all

*2025-03-13, version 1.5.1*

I downloaded the app with high hopes of a quick assessment to see if it matched up with my professional audiologist’s report. Step one (turn the volume loud enough to hear the numbers) was only white/background noise. I thought something was wrong on my end so I had my husband check as well, and he confirmed there are no voices/numbers to even listen for.

### 1/5 — Useless and a waste of time

*2025-03-11, version 1.5.1*

Such a missed opportunity. The test itself is fine, but it leant give you any detailed analysis or information and next steps about what to do. This would have been very easy and a hugely missed opportunity, what were they thinking when they developed this app? It’s basically useless.

### 1/5 — White noise nightmare

*2025-02-16, version 1.5.1*

hated this app it has white noise in the background and it starts one second before they say the numbers you’re supposed to enter. It’s so instant and loud that I can’t process the sound before it starts speaking. If you have sensory issues do not download this app, I have AuDHD and it was only good for triggering my anxiety. WHO should do better.

### 1/5 — Hearwho. What now?

*2024-09-18, version 1.5.1*

Downloaded app to my iPhone
Started. App measured ambient noise ok
Earphones plugged in ready
No earphones plugged in it reads ???
This app is rubbish. Deleted

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2024-06-14, version 1.5.0*

Using my MacBook Air, the app would not recognize my headphones not AirPods even though each was definitely connected and tested to work before running the app. Uninstalled.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work!

*2024-01-28, version 1.5.0*

It gave exactly same score (40) with or without my hearing aids!
Significant hearing loss, advising me to get professional advice. I expect I’m now on some new mailing lists!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Nice!

*2025-03-03, version 1.5.1*

Bugs from previous years seem to be fixed. I had no issues completing the test.

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2024-11-18, version 1.5.1*

Easy to use, no bug

### 5/5 — Easy and worked fine

*2021-08-11, version 1.1.6*

App was easy to use, and worked fine.

### 5/5 — Consistent results

*2019-10-29, version 1.0.3*

I have strong permanent hogh frequency tinitus and tested it twice, first at lower volume of about 2/3rds maximum and then at 50% volume. Both times using good Sennheiser Momentum wired over-ears headphones, the result was exactly the same 76%.
This app is a great companion to app Hearing Test & Ear Age Test v1.8, also available in the app store, that will test you like in a professional audiometry test, also quite accurate.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2019-06-28, version 1.0.3*

The WHO organization’s app is exceptionally great for people to check their hearing regularly. They also recommend what you should do if you have a score lower than what is said and how you should take care of your ears. So far I’m 17 years old and I do listen to music loud, but not too loud and my grade is an 89 which is above average because I take care of my ears. This app will really help others to improve their hearing

### 4/5 — Easy to use, results make sense

*2025-10-19, version 1.8.1*

I have a high-frequency loss and the rest is low normal hearing according to a hearing test done by an Audiologist. I was interested to know what this app showed as it was recommended at a conference I went to. It showed that I should get my hearing tested which makes sense. The only thing I’d add to the app is a scale. What does a score of 40 mean? I used my AirPods Pro gen 3 and there were no connectivity issues or error messages. Instructions were clear.

### 4/5 — Works well

*2024-02-19, version 1.5.0*

Works well.

### 4/5 — 1.0.2. Update

*2019-03-09, version 1.0.2*

Update from my 1 star review: it now works, is easy to use and doesn’t crash so I can complete the test.

### 4/5 — Crashes s lot

*2019-03-07, version 1.0.2*

It crashes A LOT; but overall it’s helpful- I recommended it to a few friends.

### 3/5 — Cannot finish test due to not hear anything

*2022-03-17, version 1.2.1*

I use AirPods like 6hrs a day. This app falls in total silence after Test 8. The intro part works fine. And I got only 27 points. I don’t think my hearing can be that bad. (or Do I ?)
