Built BY a metalhead FOR metalheads Heavy Headlines for iPhone, iPad - and now Apple Watch - is the BROOTAL one-stop destination for all of your metal news, new album release, and concert listing needs. To put it another way, I'm a big metal fan and much to my surprise there was just nothing in the app store that did what I was looking for - show me metal news and do it well. So as a professional app developer I took it upon myself to fill that void with the following design goals in mind: 1. Make it simple, slick, and easy to use with a fun interface. It should "just work." 2. Pack it with the innovative features of iOS and Apple devices that I would expect from a great app. 3. Make it metal. Make it fun. Hopefully I've achieved that and more. I even like the fact that when you read in article the color of the hyperlink darkens so you know you read that one. Yeah it has a lot of ads but you can tell that’s from the webpages there articles are on. I using sit in my computer chair and read metal article on my computer. This is the same basic experience but in a user friendly package. 10/10 no notes no complaints. Now I know when my favourite bands are in town super easy ### 1/5 — Ads have become a major problem *2024-11-29, version 7.0.0* I don’t particularly like ads on a webpage or app, but they are a part of life, so I accept them. However, the ads on this app have recently become obnoxious, unavoidable, and … predatory? They pop up in the middle of your screen from multiple directions while you are trying to read an article. You can minimize them or swipe them away, but they come right back and black out the article you are trying to read. Over and over. It makes reading an article practically impossible and definitely highly annoying. I used to love this app and the wide range or articles that it provided. However, it has now devolved into an unpleasant mess. I’m sure that the owners of this app/website were successful at monetizing the content, but it has strayed far from what it was. Embed the ads in the page or have them just pop up at the top or bottom, that’s fine. But what they have now is unusable. App works well. ### 1/5 — App is unusable *2023-12-21* App use to be great but they ruined it big time. You can’t even read a article anymore. As you are trying to read, a vid add takes over the screen multiple times. If you close the add it just pops up again a couple of seconds later. **Developer response:** Hi. Thanks for being a fan of Heavy Headlines. There are no full screen ads in the app itself. Those full screen ads are from the articles on the websites that host the articles. There's nothing I can do about those. If they bother you (which I absolutely understand why they would) I would recommend contacting the site that the article is from or turning off that site in the "Available Feeds" section of the app. I would appreciate it if you could change or alter this review now that I've responded with this info because as you can see, in the 10 years that Heavy Headlines has been around we have a well-deserved 4.8 out of 5 star rating with only 6 one star reviews (out of 954 total) in that entire time. ### 5/5 — \m/ *2021-11-16, version 5.0.0* Awesome App! If YOU do however and there are things you would like to see don't hesitate to reach out and send feedback via the "Send Feedback" button in the main menu of the app. I really do value your feedback and enjoy hearing from my users. 1. Improved Favorite/Blacklisted bands search to make it easier to add multiple bands at once. 2. I may have slightly tamed the full screen takeover ads/video ads on some of the sites. I can't completely stop them, nor would I if I could because those sites deserve their ad revenue. So I would ask that you please not give the app bad reviews because of ads I can not control. 3. Added Metal Sucks back in the hopes they'll just talk about metal again. 4. Some actual bug fixes (not like when you always see "Bug fixes and performance improvements" in every corporate app's release notes. Notice to EU users: Due to the European Union introducing burdensome regulations that I am unable to comply with, Heavy Headlines has now been removed from the AppStore in all EU countries. The app should remain installed on your devices but you will not be able to receive updates or install it on new devices (including via iCloud backups). I am truly sorry for this but there is unfortunately no way around it. Thank you so much for all of your support over the past decade plus. I truly appreciate it. ### 7.0.0 — 2023-08-02 Heavy Headlines 7.0.0 is here and this is one of the biggest updates ever. I've been working on this for a really long time so I hope you all enjoy! This can be disabled on the "Available Feeds" screen. - New "Upcoming Shows" filter in the feed filter menu lets you see all the upcoming shows near you in one spot. - Added app onboarding/setup for new and existing users to streamline things like importing favorites and asking for notification permissions, etc. - Reader View is back better than ever on the articles screen. - Lots of small design updates to make things a bit more modern-looking. - Cross promotion with my horror news app Horrid Headlines.
