New releases of music, and Rock / Metal related news articles. Several years ago I was pondering what it would be like to have “that one app” I couldn’t live without. And a few days later this shows up in a search for some metal magazine...I forget which. I love being able to read different write ups from a different perspective on the same story from all the different sites. This app has been one of, if not THE single reason I stay with iPhone because I can’t bear the thought of looking for my metal news and reviews by myself one by one. Small issue with crashing last week but nothing a reinstall didn’t fix. So horns up for Don for putting this together and keeping it running! ### 4/5 — Freezes a lot. *2018-05-20, version 4.2.0* I love this app and use it all the time, but man does it freeze a lot, no matter which apple device I use, new and old phones and iPads doesn’t seem to matter. Really none of the updates seems to fix it. Sometimes I think it has more to do with the embedded commercials than anything else, but really it hangs up with no apparent cause. I’ll keep using because there isn’t much else out there like it. However, the ads on this app have recently become obnoxious, unavoidable, and … predatory? They pop up in the middle of your screen from multiple directions while you are trying to read an article. You can minimize them or swipe them away, but they come right back and black out the article you are trying to read. Over and over. It makes reading an article practically impossible and definitely highly annoying. I used to love this app and the wide range or articles that it provided. However, it has now devolved into an unpleasant mess. I’m sure that the owners of this app/website were successful at monetizing the content, but it has strayed far from what it was. Embed the ads in the page or have them just pop up at the top or bottom, that’s fine. But what they have now is unusable. I’ve been a consumer of Heavy Headlines for years but this is the end. ### 1/5 — App is unusable *2023-12-21* App use to be great but they ruined it big time. You can’t even read a article anymore. As you are trying to read, a vid add takes over the screen multiple times. If you close the add it just pops up again a couple of seconds later. **Developer response:** Hi. Thanks for being a fan of Heavy Headlines. There are no full screen ads in the app itself. Those full screen ads are from the articles on the websites that host the articles. There's nothing I can do about those. If they bother you (which I absolutely understand why they would) I would recommend contacting the site that the article is from or turning off that site in the "Available Feeds" section of the app. I would appreciate it if you could change or alter this review now that I've responded with this info because as you can see, in the 10 years that Heavy Headlines has been around we have a well-deserved 4.8 out of 5 star rating with only 6 one star reviews (out of 954 total) in that entire time. ### 1/5 — Stuck on Favorites *2019-05-25, version 4.3.0* It got stuck when I was adding bands to My Favorites! The last 2 updates sucked because it would take 45 to 60 seconds to 'congure the chronicles' as oppose to the instant access on the original app. Then this latest update (may 2015) they add in an advertisement every 5th or so line. Shame. I wish I hadn't done any updates. Now it is littered with mostly concert listings...not news (headlines per the name of the site). You can remove various news sources, but you can't opt out of concert listings. So....you can remove news, which is supposed to be the point of the site (headlines)....but not concert listings, which is not the point of the site as far as I know. I understand the need to generate revenue. As most things web related....things started out good, the site/app got some positive attention and then got watered down trying to serve too many things and lacking focus. It takes forever to load the concert listings (whether on WIFI or LTE). Everything was great prior to the "upgrade". I have never wasted my time writing a review for anything online, but I am passionate about metal and miss the site as it was. I wouldn't have written anything public if the staff reply to my personal note wasn't pointed back to the issue probably being my equipment. So now I am acting like every other moron online and blabbing for probably no reason...basically talking to a wall. I work in IT, have a newer iPhone, am on WIFI and there was no problem prior to the release. Issues are on their side. I love how any IT support staff always will treat people like an ignorant elderly person. The first 22 listings in the "news" today are for concerts that I will not attend. Maybe if I move to a small town where there are no shows or they let me choose not to see concerts I will sign back in, but for now I am out. ### 2/5 — Hasn’t been updated for ages *2019-06-07, version 4.3.0* I used this app for all my new release metal. I even like the fact that when you read in article the color of the hyperlink darkens so you know you read that one. Yeah it has a lot of ads but you can tell that’s from the webpages there articles are on. I using sit in my computer chair and read metal article on my computer. This is the same basic experience but in a user friendly package. 10/10 no notes no complaints.
