### 3/5 — Great app. But it lacks some features

*2024-09-08*

When you want to learn a language it has to be learned in a way as if you are speaking as a man or woman. This lacks that ability. However, it’s a good app.

### 3/5 — Does not play well with Duolingo

*2023-05-30*

I am trying to learn Hebrew with Duolingo, and thought this would be a nice companion program. I could use the flash cards feature to help me review vocabulary, look up the roots of vocabulary words to help me understand them better, etc.

However, there are quite a few words that are just missing. For example, נשים, the Hebrew word for women is strangely absent. ״נשים מוכות״ (battered wives) is there. נשיות (feminine) is there, but not נשים.

These aren’t esoteric words, but common vocabulary words. Heck, by definition basic vocabulary words.

Other vocabulary words don’t seem to agree with Duolingo. I can’t say that Duolingo is the prime source of vocabulary meanings, but my wife who is a native Hebrew speaker tends to side with Duolingo when there is a dispute.

You use a language dictionary when you don’t know the language, and the dictionary has to be 100% trustworthy. Otherwise, you find yourself literally in a Monty Python sketch.

### 3/5 — Wrong links

*2020-10-02*

When I look up an English word in Hebrew correct translations come up but when the Hebrew word is tapped you are taken to a different word completely often a totally unrelated word. This does not happen with other apps by the same authors.

### 4/5 — Chaplain oh

*2019-11-21*

Why is no male voices, there is a different between male and female pronouncement of words. I would like to be able to hear male pronunciation at times. Would you try to add the male voice?

### 3/5 — No sound :/

*2019-05-22*

I purchased this to help with my Hebrew vocabulary and pronunciation because i am a beginner to the language, but the sound on the app isn’t functioning, which is pretty disappointing. I’ll still use it as a dictionary i guess

### 4/5 — Some deficiencies noted

*2018-10-21*

The first words I tried to look up were missing. “Oz, Oznim” only brought up “Vz” words. Back to Brown-Driver-Briggs for me!!! I’m sure though that there are many many many other words I will need to research or look up that will be present, hence the 4 stars.

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2018-02-22*

Easy to use, and I use it often.

### 3/5 — Very good app

*2017-09-25, version 19.1.3*

This app is one of the best ways to learn Hebrew. If only they added ‏נקודות for every word then it would be the best!!!! Please add ‏נקודות,it really helps with pronouncing words.

### 2/5 — Poorly equipped audio archive

*2017-09-24*

I feel scammed. I bought this SPECIFICALLY for audio pronunciations, and all of the words that I've looked up so far have no audio translation. I want my money back.

### 4/5 — Real nice app!

*2017-07-08, version 19.1*

Your development people did a real nice work here. Q: Is there a means to go back to a previous screen or toggle between screens for words, sentences, quotes? Maybe there is and I missed it. Really though, a real nice piece of work.

### 3/5 — Useful- could use improvement.

*2017-07-01, version 19.1*

Reversibility might make this useful app more useful. By that I mean 1) you can get very different results by looking up a word in English than by starting from the Hebrew word. I'd also like to see the gender identified, plurals added, and I'd like to be able to flip the Flashcards for drills.

### 5/5 — Very good app

*2017-06-27, version 19.1*

This is a very helpful app. In occasion there is a bit of gender confusion, but all in all, very good.

### 5/5 — Works Fine

*2017-06-17*

This review is limited as I use only the text related sections.

In general it is a very useful tool. What follows are hopefully helpful suggestions.

Would love it to be easier and consistent to select and copy Hebrew or English text even between its own segments (one example: word of the day into translator). I can't figure how the bookmarks are useful. The recently used list should filter out duplicate entries. Touching the audio spots often misses and hits the menu and bookmark spots, very annoying (how about moving them down to the text-box divider area?) The WOD translator doesn't always match the translator results.

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2017-06-14*

This is an excellent Hebrew app. One of the best features of this app is that it provides audio pronunciation of the Hebrew, which is not available is Google Translate. Also it provides a dictionary in addition to translation. I use this app every day for my studies. Only one suggestion for improvement: the app could be streamlined to reduce the number of keystrokes for navigation especially in the translator.

### 2/5 — Not so great

*2017-04-08*

There are some of us who don't have a fluent background in Hebrew and never learned to read Hebrew without vowels. There's no way to set it so all words contain vowels. Once in a while a word or phrase here or there will have vowels but, of course, what I need to look up don't have vowels so I can't even attempt to pronounce the words And many are in cursive instead of print - also impossible for people who don't know Hebrew in cursive. The app also is glitchy trying to bookmark words and phrases and put them in any type of coherent list is impossible. I'm sorry I wasted money in this app because it isn't better than the free one. And the female voice that speaks the words is hard to understand and heavily accented. Again no help at all.

### 3/5 — Disappointing, limited dictionary

*2017-01-29*

I didn't give the free version a proper examination and I almost immediately bought the full version of the app... Only to find that the interface is clunky and limited. When I searched for an English word, I got a list of Hebrew words, but only the first one has audio. There's a simple Text to Speech engine built into the dictionary, but it doesn't always work properly. All the extra features that come with the paid-for version aren't at all useful really. What would be far more useful would be a list of sample sentences with the word (or the same concept conveyed), each with audio as well if possible.

I ended up buying DictBox Hebrew for £7/$10, which even though more expensive is a much slicker and more comprehensive product.

### 3/5 — Pronunciation

*2016-11-29*

The Hebrew pronunciation is not proper Hebrew. It is English pronunciation. Example the letter T in Hebrew transliterated as TAV pronounced in proper Hebrew as Tuv (similar to Tough). The app pronunciation is TAV as in Tavern. This is incorrect.

### 5/5 — Plein de bugs

*2016-11-08*

Difficile de comprendre l'agencement des fonctions.
Mal structuré.
Quand on fait copier/coller pour ajoute un mot: pas de réponse.
Avec voyelles: idem.
Malheureusement pas d'équivalent en Français.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Links don’t work

*2024-06-23*

Please fix the problem with the links. You press on a word for retranslate and a complete different one appears. It could be a good app. Now I wasted the money because like this it’s useless :(

### 1/5 — Totally useless

*2017-04-29*

The scan function doesn't work spare the money.

### 1/5 — Totally worthless

*2015-07-17, version 13.0*

The best feature of this app is that it links to Wiktionary, which is free on the internet. Totally worthless, a waste of $4

### 1/5 — No Pronuciation

*2015-05-22, version 12.0*

No audio in Hebrew No english text to explain how to say Hebrew words. All you get is Hebrew Text.

### 1/5 — If you want to hear English to Hebrew

*2015-03-02, version 11.4*

Don't buy this app , I only bought it to hear spoken Hebrew , this App doesn't do that , it only speaks English , in which I am fluent .

### 1/5 — Do Not Purchase

*2014-09-04, version 9.8*

While it is indeed true that in Hebrew there can many translations and interpretations of different words, I have found that the interpretation/definition of the words identified as the "word of the day" were so far off base and incorrect that it would be blasphemy to attempt to learn Hebrew from this app. DO NOT BUY

### 1/5 — No Hebrew pronunciation- very poor

*2013-03-04*

There is no Hebrew pronunciation provided, unlike the Arabic dictionary in the same series. Without the sound facility or transliteration, this is of limited value for learning Hebrew; more of an English dictionary for Hebrew speakers.

### 1/5 — Definitely not helpful

*2012-10-20, version 7.0*

Not helpful if you are looking for english to Hebrew translation and pronunciation in Heb.

### 1/5 — Almost useless

*2012-01-16, version 6.5*

It needs to be made clear that this is an English dictionary for Hebrew speakers, not a Hebrew dictionary for English speakers

### 1/5 — Lousy beyond saving

*2011-12-15, version 6.5*

I spent a great deal of time building a bookmark list for review. When I installed the latest update the list was wiped out. Worse, a new list of words I don't want to review was substituted in its place!!!!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love the paid version.

*2021-03-31*

Very helpful with my other language studies. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Easy to use!

*2020-07-19*

I appreciate this app so much. It's very easy to use and to go at your own pace.

### 5/5 — Nice program

*2020-04-26*

This program is well worth its very low Price. Also, it is quite nice that you do not have to be online to use it.

In a similar vein, it is very fast to look up words. Much quicker than the online applications!

As someone mentioned earlier, it would be helpful to have the gender of nouns listed, and perhaps the plural form as well for nouns that are irregular, such as לילה.

Thanks for designing this application!

### 5/5 — Clear and Concise

*2018-06-03*

Just staring to learn but app is very useful for me.

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2017-08-18*

I only have one complaint about this app. The voice recording is so mechanical it is sometimes is really hard to understand. Other than that the dictionary is very useful and was worth what I paid for it.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2017-08-01*

Does what it says; the paid version is worth the small investment.
