## What is HEIC Convert?

With the release of iOS 11 in September 2017, Apple introduced a new image format called HEIC (mypicture.heic) based on the High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) standard. The main advantage of this new format is that every HEIC pic will save you roughly 40% on storage space compared to the 20-year-old JPEG format.

The iOS 11 system and the new file format are supported by the following devices:

However, even if all the listed devices can read this new format, not all of them can support the shooting and saving of pictures and videos with this new format. By default, only the following devices with iOS 11 can shoot and save pictures and movies, as HEIF standard:

If you are wondering why only these models are natively compatible, it is because they use the A10 processor or better. Powerful processors are required to natively support the saving of pictures and videos with the HIEF standard.

This is why, so far, the HEIC Convert app only works with those devices and converts all of the JPG or JPEG pictures taken by your device or others in HEIC format (which is derivative of the HEIF standard). The resolution will be preserved as the information is related to GPS and EXIF.

However, for now, the app will not convert Portrait, PNG, GIF or Live files. It is the same with the movies, which stay in their original format.

Finally, if you have edited your JPG or JPEG images with the Apple’s Photos app, the HEIC Convert app will only convert the final picture with all of the filters, modifications, etc. you have applied to it. So you will not be able to get back to your original image.

Before running our app, make sure that you have backed up your iPhone with iTunes or iCloud.

I will change my review once I figure this out. I was able to run on my recents list and converted all the pics however there was an error on 1500 files.

Dans l’ensemble, cette application n’est pas mauvaise : elle sans problème le travail demandé (c’est-à-dire, convertir nos photos JPG en HEIF). Il y a juste (à mes yeux) quelques manques :
– L’application est en Anglais (ce qui pourrait gêner certaines personnes)
– Il n’y a pas de prise en charge des « Live Photos » : l’application convertit les « Live Photos » en simples photos, certes en HEIF, mais on perd l’animation (j’ai perdu toutes ces dernières à cause de cela)
– L’app ne convertit que les photos, et pas les vidéos
– Comme expliqué en anglais dans la description de l’app, l’app gère sans problème l’EXIF et les données GPS, mais si vous avez modifié vos photos dans l’app Photos, vous ne pourrez plus revenir à l’originale
- L’application renomme (souvent) les photos, c’est-à-dire qu’elle transforme parfois un « IMG_123 » en « 05A33CBE-9317-4CE6-9A31-0A85DC1788E7.heic ».

Donc, en résumé, application intéressante, très peu chère (1,09 €), mais avec quelques manques de fonctionnalités en contrepartie (je vous conseille fortement de ne pas faire comme moi et d’avoir une sauvegarde de vos photos sur un autre appareil, par exemple (notamment pour conserver les Live Photos, que j’ai malheureusement perdues). À noter qu’il faut minimum avoir un iPhone 7 ou un iPad Pro sorti en 2017 pour utiliser l’app. Cela aurait été tout de même plus simple si Apple avait proposé ce genre d’outil.

**Developer response:** Merci pour ce long retour. Nos réponses dans l'ordre:

- On réfléchit à traduire l'app (mais pas le site Internet pour le moment)
- Les photos Live n'étaient pas converties à l'époque car Apple ne supportait pas cette conversion. Toutefois, maintenant l'app semble convertir ce type de photos mais ça ne devrait pas être le cas car ces photos sont en fait des photos avec des films... HEIC ne supporte pas ce type de format. On corrigera cette anomalie.
- Les vidéos ne peuvent pas être converties car Apple ne supporte pas cette action. Le jour où Apple supportera cette fonction, on la proposera.
- Oui, seules les photos finales sont converties sans l'historique des modifications.
- Le titre original est normalement conservé mais le cas cité est certainement du à des images du type Live. Nous corrigerons aussi ce problème dans une prochaine version.

Enfin, vos photos Live et toutes les autres ont été placée dans la corbeille et vous pouvez les récupérer si elles n'ont pas encore été effacées.

В бесплатной версии сам выбрал последние 10 фото, не дав сделать выбор и сконвертировал.
Вот только они уже были в формате HEIC... 
Бесплатный режим не доработан. Не понятно, работает программа или нет.

When I tested the application with some sample files the output was actually at least twice the size so not really saving storage in my case...

**Developer response:** This was a bug when Apple introduced iOS 11.3 but we corrected it with version 1.0.5. To avoid this, please make sure you have the latest app version.
