## What is Helix Music?

Helix Music is the music player for your own Helix server. Connect to the server on your home network and play your whole library — albums, artists, playlists and lossless files — on your iPhone.

• Your library, your server: Helix plays from a Helix server you run; nothing is hosted by us.
• Lossless and hi-res playback, gapless albums, background audio and CarPlay.
• Download songs for offline listening.
• Playlists, loved songs, recently played, and "Play on" your other Helix devices.

When your server is set up for it, the app also shows your server's download activity and connected sources, so you can manage your library from your phone. Helix doesn't include or sell any content; third-party add-ons are optional, installed by a server's owner on the server, and are not part of this app.

You need access to a Helix server. To look around first, tap "Try the demo" on the Connect screen.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 8.1.0 — 2026-10-02

Play music on this phone, no server needed: pick a folder of songs in Files and Helix Music lists its albums, artists and playlists.
Play on…: send what is playing to a TV running Helix, with a bar that shows what is playing there.
Siri plays the artist you ask for, and "Play music" resumes or shuffles your music.
Artwork stays on your phone between launches, and the A–Z index jumps straight to any letter.
Search shows only what your server holds when its owner turns off suggestions from outside the library.

### 8.0.0 — 2026-09-30

CarPlay: loved songs, mixes, stations and records on the Home screen, and a heart on Now Playing.
Smarter streaming on mobile data: playback starts at your last speed and steps up to the original quality.
Songs saved on your phone show their own cover, artist and file quality; compilations name the performers.
Optional notifications from your own Helix server when music you asked for is ready.
Swipe the mini player away, a new app icon, and smoother updates.

### 5.0.0 — 2026-09-30
