## What is Helix Tuner?

Helix Tuner is a completely new way to tune your instrument. Unlike all other tuning apps, it does not detect your pitch at all. Instead, it combines the sound coming into the microphone with the desired tuning pitch to create a beautiful interference pattern on the screen. The interaction between your sound and the reference pitch creates an optical illusion of motion when your note is sharp or flat, and it appears stable when you're in tune.  

If you are tired of digital tuners that jump around erratically, have slow or delayed response to changes in your tuning, or in general just don't give you good tuning information, then Helix Tuner is the one you are looking for. 

When you manually select the tuning note, as opposed to letting the app detect it automatically, Helix Tuner is extremely resistant to background noise and higher string harmonics that confuse other tuners, causing them to jump around to higher notes and give wrong tuning information. Because the visualization system naturally responds more clearly to sounds near the selected tuning pitch, it is useful even when other musicians are playing nearby.

We were cautious to give this a try and it took a while maybe a month to really fully understand how evolved and fresh tuning with your eyes and your ears at the same time in a visual pattern instead of using a meter and trying to drill it down to zero, we are slowly using this all the time and have become so enamored with the process that we rarely use other tuners - 4 stars (not 5) because the app does NOT handle landscape mode in our I-pad (only vertical)

Helix Tuner consistently provides me a highly precise result due to the visualization. It seems to offer a special kind of accuracy when reaching the final calibration moments of tuning a note. For this reason it's become my primary tuner over some other more traditional tuner designs.

Not sensitive enough to pick up an unamplified electric guitar at very close range in a silent room, even with the sensitivity switch on. Might be nice if it could also run as an AUv3 in a DAW, but as is it is completely useless for silent guitar practice. Also lacks landscape mode screen rotation.

I hope other people get a chance to try this tuner out. Incredibly helpful for me as a trumpet player. This is all I need for intonation practice. I love the minimal design and the beautiful visuals. It’s made playing long tones a kind of fun game where the goal is to keep the circle from spinning one way or the other

A useful app but wish it responded quicker to detecting the not being played.  Look up Drone Tuner by the same developer, it will train your ear to actually play in tune with music.
