Great experience. And the venues have been sooo good. They’re growing something special here! ### 2/5 — Match maker, points based dating that has a lot of room for improvement. *2025-02-06, version 1.72* I’ve had this app for a number of weeks now and been penalised more than a hooner in the CBD. The concept is great; your friends do the match making and then you arrange the time and date of your date. However the pitfalls are making it impossible for me to use this app. There is what’s supposed to be an indicative points system that shows someone’s ability to adhere to the Hello Darling rules of play, go on dates… get points. Don’t go on dates… loose points. But then you also loose points if you don’t schedule your date within 48 hours, or if you need to reschedule but don’t do so in the 2 day time frame. Which for those of us who do shift work (myself-hospitality), and have a life (so have plans on my already rostered days off) gives me no opportunity to schedule a date, unless I do so for a day that I end up being rostered to work which results in you further loosing points due to rescheduling, (you can only reschedule twice before you’re given a slap on the wrist and loose the match). Furthermore because they schedule the dates at venues around the city for you (in a suburb that’s mutually between the two daters) you’re restricted to only being able to schedule dates between 12pm-8pm. Yet more limitations to dating potential with this app. When I brought this up with the developer the response was that not many cafes allowing bookings so morning dates were out of the question. (They were ‘working on this’). Plus for someone who doesn’t drink alcohol I’d genuinely rather have had my date scheduled at a supermarket. What seemed like a great concept of being ‘set up’ by your mates falls starkly short. There’s no autonomy to just catch up with someone for a takeaway coffee and a casual walk, 48 hour windows to make any kind of decision. And unlike other apps in other parts of the world that have a similar premise you can only message your match three times prior to your date (unlimited during the 15minutes before the scheduled time), and you’re unable to access more than just the few words they write about themselves in their bio. (There’s an app in Europe where your friends match you but then you get control to talk to your match. When you ask and answer questions more of the profile is revealed to you and you can have a say in where you date) This is a 4-5 star app for anyone who works a regular 9-5 (or 7-3) and knows their days off every week. This is a 1-2 star app for shift workers who work evening and can’t even plan their own life more than a week in advance. I also think Hello Darling could be awesome for older peeps who might find online dating a bit intimidating. With a friend helping out, it makes the whole thing a lot less stressful and way more enjoyable as well as keeping the chat before to an absolute minimum.
