I'm actually so relieved to have found heptabase, I feel like I can finally stop searching for a note taking app that feels easy and stable and helps my thought process. I'm excited for every update. It would be cool to be able to draw on the whiteboards with my iPad pen someday 😊 ### 5/5 — My Deep Thinking Tool *2024-01-27, version 1.13.0* If you’re a visual thinker like me, this app might be what you have been looking for. The tool is one of the best I have ever used and the development is continuous with new features added all the time very impressed with this app and I have been searching foreign wide for something to help me with visual thinking as someone with ADHD. ### 5/5 — One of a kind research tool *2023-12-30* The design of Heptabase has been very focused from the ground up on solving challenges that arise in the workflows of research and centralizing many sources of information into a workspace where they can be used to document and compile thought processes, notes, and ideas. At a first glance, it may seem to have some features that are similar to other apps like Notion or Obsidian, but this accomplishes things that the others either cannot do or Heptabase does it without the friction of using some of the other tools, which allows for a flow of research and thoughts that is hard to get elsewhere. I’m currently using it to research multiple different fields that I am new to, and the workflow that is possible here is making this seamless and is expediting the process. It makes me happy with taking notes, helping me organize the info and develop a logical knowledge-net super efficiently when I am learning a new subject. The new mobile app is also great. I love the simple but efficient features for taking notes on the mobile and the seamless sync between the app and software. ### 5/5 — BEST NOTES APP *2023-09-10* I have tried many note-taking apps in the past. Started with Notability, then Agenda, tried Scrintal for a bit, then got into Notion (heavy), Obsidian came and went, and MiraNote was great for visual learning, but nothing really stuck…until Heptabase! It’s obvious to see I got sucked in to the shiny object syndrome when it came to choosing a notes app that worked for me. Why Heptabase stuck is because its easy to visualize what I’m trying to learn while also feeling free to capture everything that’s important to me. It’s just EASY. The learning curve is not too steep. And, I’m finding I’m retaining more of the information I research and write about. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive, one stop shop note taking app, you’ve found it. Would love to see more AI integration but otherwise I’m enjoying it! *I know it may sound like they paid me to write this, but promise you it’s just that good! Can't sign up on iOS. Tried web and it's unable to continue when choosing between monthly or yearly billing. Nothing happens, unable to proceed. ### 1/5 — Does not Support PDF annotation on iPad? *2024-07-01* There are tons of PKMs and many have whiteboard options. And many of those have iPad apps. PDF annotation is the main feature that differentiates them from competitors in PKM space but they aren’t prioritizing it for the iPad despite it being stated as what they are working on in their roadmap for a while now. iPads have styluses. That’s a large part of why people use them. Heptabase should have spent more time on the app before shipping it. Look at the info for this app and you will see that it says the app will let you read all your info or access your whiteboards. Yes, that is technically true - but it is ALL that it lets you do. It is not possible on the iPhone to add new cards to a whiteboard, it is not possible to edit a whiteboard and it certainly isn’t possible to move or manipulate any cards on a whiteboard. Given that those things are what Heptabase is all about, that means the app is of very little use. Yes, you can read stuff and check it. But you can’t change or expand a whiteboard. A terrible shame, and it seriously hampers this app - which, to be frank, is no use to you if you want to use Heptabase seriously. The app designers need to put some hours in and get this sorted as soon as possible. It is holding back the whole Heptabase project. If users cannot work with the software when mobile with their phone, then it is not worth forking out for a subscription to Heptabase. ### 2/5 — iPad app is virtually useless *2023-11-27* I love the Mac app and would love to move my workflow entirely to Heptabase from liquid text, but the I am unable to do so until I am capable of doing any real work on my iPad. The inability to edit the whiteboard or interact with pdfs in any meaningful way beyond reading on iPad, a form factor that lends itself so well to markup and spatial organization of notes, particularly when the Mac ui would lend itself so well to a touch interface, causes enough friction that Heptabase just isn’t viable at this point, what feels like a huge missed opportunity. I hope to see this functionality added in the future so I can actually rely on what is genuinely an amazing tool. ### 3/5 — Where are the tables, the kanban boards? Four stars will change to five when the iOS apps will allow you to drag and re-order cards on the board. As of right now with the iOS apps, you could just make cards but you can’t place them same with the iPad apps. Many other apps have similar features, but none integrate them as well as Heptabase. The developers are patient and answer almost every question. I preciously used a number (if not all of them 🤣 and finally found Heptabase!! Between this and Sunsama I am now complete, and, much much much more productive! I look forward to the roadmap and future plans! I know I’m not maximizing the potential of this app, but just the journal + notion features does wonders for mental clarity/brain dumping. Cards are also helpful to create updates you can reference.
