## What is HereKorea?

HereKorea is a community for foreign residents of Korea.

Everyone is verified. Sign-up requires a Korean mobile number and a photo of your Alien Registration Card, reviewed by a human before your account goes live. That means the person answering your question about visa renewal is someone who has actually renewed one.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Voice rooms
Talk out loud instead of typing. Open a room, put a topic on it, and up to five people take the stage while fifty listen. Ask the host for a place and they decide who speaks — nobody gets a microphone by pushing their way in. Practise Korean, answer somebody's paperwork question in your own language, or just have Friday night on in the background. Nothing said in a room is recorded.

Feed
Post what you're dealing with and read what everyone else is. Immigration office queues, deposits that went up without warning, which hospital does English intake forms. Tag by topic and by neighbourhood.

Group chats
Rooms by nationality and by interest. Vietnamese, Chinese, Filipino, Uzbek, Nepali, Indian, Thai, Indonesian, Japanese, Russian — talk in your own language with people going through the same paperwork. Plus rooms for flat hunting, running, and study groups.

Find a roommate
A board split into two: people with a lease and a spare room, and people looking for someone to sign one with. Deposit, monthly rent, move-in date, neighbourhood and lifestyle up front, so you know before you message.

Messages
Direct messages and group rooms. New conversations arrive as requests, so nobody can fill your inbox uninvited.

Events and benefits
What's on in Seoul this month. Plus a guide to what you're entitled to as a foreign resident, health cover, subsidies, and discounts most people never find out about.

PRIVACY

Your residence card photograph is used to verify you and nothing else. Your nationality only appears on your profile after a reviewer has approved it — an unverified claim never leaves our database. Nothing said in a voice room is recorded or stored. You can delete your account, and everything in it, from Settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.0 — 2026-09-23

Say it once, at the top of the room.

Whoever opened a group chat can now put an announcement above it — where you are meeting, the rule everyone keeps asking about, the thing that gets typed again every time somebody new arrives. It sits at the top for everyone in the room, opens in full when tapped, and folds away once it has been read. Only the host writes it, and changing it brings it back for everyone.

Also in this version:
· A room's menu opens as a panel from the right, with who is in it, who is waiting and what the host can change in one place
· Web addresses in a post are links now, and open without leaving the app
· A hashtag takes you to everything filed under it
· A bio longer than two lines has "more" under it instead of ending mid-sentence
· Photos in a post run to the edge of the screen, so the one after shows there is more
· The bar at the bottom floats over the app and moves out of the way while you read
· Your own photograph is the profile tab
· Settings is a short list of places — account, notifications, privacy — instead of one page of everything
· Pressing Home while you are already on it goes back to the top and refreshes

### 1.6.0 — 2026-09-16

Your visa date, remembered for you.

Tell HereKorea when your stay ends and it will say something while
there is still time to do something about it — four months out, which
is when an extension can first be applied for, then at two months, one
month and a week. The card shows how far through this period you are,
the day applying opens, and roughly where and how it is done. Nobody
else ever sees it.

Also in this version:
· Your profile now shows how many people opened it this month — you and nobody else
· Voice rooms show how much listening you have left today, beside your hosting time
· Closing a group room you host now closes it for everyone, and asks first
· Hashtags read in blue, and comments under a post are set apart from each other
· A place you tag reads the same for everyone, whatever language your phone is set to
· Signing up says what is still missing, and a permanent resident card counts too

### 1.5.0 — 2026-09-14

The feed is new every time you open it.

It now opens on For you: posts from across HereKorea in a fresh order each time, with new posts and the ones people are talking about turning up near the top more often. Pull down to mix it again. Rather see only your people? Choose Following for what the people you follow post and share, newest first.

Also in this version:
· Pick your feed from the menu at the top left — For you, Following, Latest, or what's hot today, this week and this month
· Something you've just posted waits at the top of For you, so you can see it went up
· The feed loads in smaller steps as you scroll, so the first posts show up sooner
· Explore gives its categories more room, and search sits at the top of the feed
· A tidier header, with icons that match

### 1.4.0 — 2026-09-11

Signing up is shorter, and it speaks your language.

The residence card step used to carry three screens' worth of
instructions on one. Now it is your card and one button — and the
moment you take the photo, a short animation shows you exactly what
to cover and why. All of signing up follows your phone's language:
English, 日本語, 中文.

Also in this version:
· Forgot your password? There is a way back in now
· Your profile photograph fills the whole screen
· A new sign-in screen, and a tap to clear the number or the password
· Gender and languages on Edit profile start closed, so what you came
to change is at the top
· Voice rooms, chat and the feed are lighter on battery and on data

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-09

Voice rooms are here.

Open a room and talk out loud — up to five people on the stage, fifty
listening. Ask the host for a place and they decide who speaks. Nothing
said in a room is recorded, ever.

Also in this version:
· Group chats can have a picture now, and you can change it later
· A link on your profile — your site, your channel, whatever you want
· Share your profile with a QR code
· HereKorea Pro now includes three and a half hours a day of hosting
· Filters, forms and sheets tidied up throughout
