## What is Heritage of Western Sydney?

Sydney’s first European settlement in 1788 was along the waterways, starting from Sydney Harbour, then the Parramatta River and soon after along the river systems of the Hawkesbury Nepean Rivers.

This App examines the earliest colonial settlements along these river systems and spans the local government areas of Hawkesbury, Penrith, Liverpool and Camden Councils. This combined area has been named “HoWS” being an abbreviation of “Heritage of Western Sydney”.

The overall HoWS area retains the largest group of early Colonial European heritage assets in Australia and include buildings, farmhouses, churches. cemeteries, roads, bridges, public squares, landscapes as well as many other heritage items.

The HoWS App enables you to explore these wonderful hidden treasures of our Colonial past, whether by motor vehicle, or by bike or by foot. It can range from a short few hours, a full day or even a whole weekend tour.

You may also care to explore the HoWS area in a number of ways, including thematically as the App allows you to wonder and discover via the different tour themes.

Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. We advise you to quit the app when finished.

### 3/5 — Tours

*2019-02-06, version 3.8.1*

Would be good if they listed the starting point address for the tours, also have tours that only show places you can go to and are not private.
Updates with open days would be good too.

### 3/5 — When is a tour not a tour?

*2017-05-09, version 3.8.1*

When the majority of the sites are not generally open to the public, others can't be seen even from the road, one is in a secret location! I refer to the Penrith Tour. Penrith has a sad history of demolishing or developing in an ugly way, its historic buildings. What is left of old Penrith Railway Station? Not a lot.Beautiful old homes demolished and ugly unit blocks put in their place.
Does not maintain what it has...case in point St.Stephens Cemetery. No heritage streetscapes preserved. Sadly not much left 😟
