### 4/5 — VR180 photo upload issue

*2026-08-08, version 5.11*

I like the app a lot. But when I try to upload a VR180 photo the app thinks it’s a screen capture. I’ve reported this before with no response from developer.

### 4/5 — Great App but the photo limit is dumb

*2026-08-04, version 5.11*

This app is great. It’s helped me catch a few heritage/special interest units and in general is a very good app. Free accounts are obviously accosted by ads, but that’s par for the course with mobile apps.

Something I don’t understand, though, is the photo limit for free accounts. Why? It’s not some special feature, being able to share pictures with other people. Most platforms (as in all that I’ve seen) have photo sharing as free. Because it’s not some premium feature. Yet you’re limited to 10 pictures unless you pay for the subscription? I guess if the devs want to have less pictures of heritage units because not everyone can afford dumb subscriptions, sure. But they lose a star just for the ridiculousness of it.

### 3/5 — Good but could be better

*2025-08-25, version 4.42*

The app is great for knowing that units are nearby. I’ve used it several times to locate units before, and most of the time the train tracker is either accurate enough or wildly misleading.

One thing that should be added is report timestamps. You can select when the unit came through, but then people will go through all the webcams and fill up the nearby reports with useless reports from hours beforehand. It should say when the report was submitted in addition to the pre-existing timestamp.

### 4/5 — Photos

*2025-08-19, version 4.42*

It’s a really good app just wish I could upload a few more photos otherwise a good app

### 4/5 — It’s great and not Facebook

*2025-06-14, version 4.34*

This app is amazing as it tells you where special locomotives are. Recently CSX YN2 units were added which makes life so much easier in finding them. The only thing I don’t like is that a ton of foamers use the app and unfortunately many of the foamers know about these special things and ruin those videos made by true railfans. While it really depends on location, it is a problem. Another issue is sometimes there is a lack of reports of a unit. Once an SP patch made it across the US with no reports until Boone, IA. No idea how that happened.

### 4/5 — Needs dark mode

*2024-12-04, version 4.17*

Great app but needs dark and light modes.

### 4/5 — Ehh

*2024-10-28, version 4.17*

Logs me out after a month or two and when I try to log back in it says password or username doesn’t match. It’s a journey to try to log back in

### 4/5 — Add delete / edit button

*2024-05-22, version 3.28*

Apps good but needs a delete button for reports or an edit button
because i put the wrong time or wrong direction sometimes.

### 4/5 — Love it, but…

*2024-05-19, version 3.28*

there is some stuff that needs to be fixed. I think that the limit should be more than 2 reports, like maybe 5. Like what if you’re on the Hudson Line on a weekend and see more than 2 heritage units?

-Bowie

### 2/5 — Why does this always happen

*2024-04-22, version 3.28*

Dude every month Heritage units signs me out and says “ password and username don’t match try again “ dude are you serious right now I put in my password YALL need to fix it

### 3/5 — F40M District Photography (Sub to me on YT)

*2024-01-15, version 3.28*

Always logs me out after a certain amount of time and I always have to log back in

I made a couple reports on some units and one time when I was just messing around, I clicked pretty much every heritage unit on the list and I got banned?!? I try to report a heritage unit I saw that day but not screwing around that time, i click the green button “YOU’VE REACHED YOUR LIMIT FOR SPOTS. ENJOY SOME COFFEE AND TRY AGAIN IN A FEW HOURS.” I try again in a few hours and it still shows me the message. Great app and all but PLEASE FIX THIS.

### 5/5 — This app is a Godsend!

*2024-01-15, version 3.28*

This app is what the railfan community needed! I am so glad this app exists! Thank you.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Trying to get in

*2026-06-28, version 5.09*

I made an account to logged in but it never put me in and it locked me out of my account and every time I try making a new one it won’t let me and when I go back to the original one that I made it still won’t work because it says something‘s wrong even though that’s how it’s saved in my Passwords app

### 1/5 — Bad review.

*2026-05-11, version 5.09*

Did not allow me to register because apparently my email domain doesn’t exist.

### 1/5 — Please fix and update the app

*2025-05-17, version 4.31*

I can’t report the heritage unit because it kept saying this error message: Error
You've reached your limit for spots...
Please enjoy some coffee and try again in a few hours
Btw the FAQ doesn’t explain why I kept getting the error message

### 1/5 — make the reports last longer

*2025-03-23, version 4.26*

yesterday the app said no reports found 1 minute later i seen NS 1065. 1 star.

### 1/5 — This is the worst app ever

*2024-12-16, version 4.17*

It just logged me out of my account fix this app

### 1/5 — I hate it

*2024-10-03, version 4.17*

I waited 3 hours at the train track when the train is under 50 miles away, every time I go to my house it passes. Screw you

### 1/5 — Fun app but one small problem

*2024-07-07, version 4.12*

The app is fun and all but i hate the fact that you’re trying to report a locomotive it says “You have reached your maximum daily reports” it’d very annoying, so please fix this.

### 1/5 — It’s terrible now

*2024-06-02, version 4.8*

The new premium ruined it

### 1/5 — A lot of things can be changed

*2023-11-14, version 3.28*

The app often crashes for no reason the owner can care less to fix it or listen to members to remove scrapped units or add special units, has asked certain people to stop posting photos to help others out to know if certain locomotives are still around. When uploading photos there is an option to include multiple special units in your photo and the owner seems bothered to add “highlights” to include the multiple units in the photo. It seems like a waste of money to pay for the subscription to upload as many photos as you want & to be told to stop uploading photos.

The owner has no intention of reading emails or replying to them if it is about a locomotive that has been scrapped or is a special unit but isn’t on the site with proof of it being scrapped or still around. This app could be a lot better if the owner listened to members who are giving information with proof, having photos include multiple units and to fix the random crashes the app has.

### 1/5 — App Doesn't Recognize App Store Purchase

*2023-09-18, version 3.28*

I purchased a premium subscription from the iOS App Store and it was processed promptly by Apple. Unfortunately, it's one full day later and the app doesn't recognize my purchase and I'm still bombarded by ads. I've deleted and reloaded the app several times but still no recognition of my purchase.

To make matters worse, I looked for a link like a "Contact Us" to report the problem and it looks like one doesn't exist. Really? So now I'm forced to use the App Store review process to get someone's attention...

### 5/5 — RAILFANS DOWNLOAD NOW!

### 5/5 — Very good App!!!!

*2024-07-10, version 4.12*

I have liked trains for many years now a I discovered this app 2021 and it works very well and I absolutely love the ns 1072 (Illinois terminal) and I saw on this app a few months ago that the Illinois terminal was heading to where I live near and I got to see my favorite locomotive after years of wanting to see it I’ve seen it 2 times since then!

### 5/5 — Very responsive support

*2024-06-23, version 4.12*

I had a problem. The developer fixed it.

### 5/5 — New app update is amazing!

*2024-06-02, version 4.7*

If you’re a railfan, this is THE app for you! I’ve been a user for years now and the newest update (June 2024) is absolutely amazing. So sleek and smooth and intuitive and user friendly. I can’t thank the developer enough for not only creating an app that is so useful in the railfan community but for keeping up with it and making the extra effort to keep it up and be the best it can be. Do not hesitate to download this if you have any interest in North American railroading, you will NOT be disappointed.
