Heritage Walker is an offline map of 265,222 heritage places in 228 countries. Castles, prehistoric monuments, industrial landmarks, sacred sites, memorials and lighthouses - stored on your phone, not fetched from a server. WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL, BECAUSE IT CANNOT PHONE HOME Turn on airplane mode and the app behaves identically. That is not a setting. Heritage Walker contains no networking code of its own - the release build is automatically rejected if any appears in it. No account, no sign-up, no analytics. Nothing you do in this app can leave your phone, because there is no code capable of sending it. WHAT IS ON THE MAP 41,625 archaeological sites. 44,542 memorials. 25,471 castles. 22,748 museums. 5,539 lighthouses. Every record travels with you. NOW IN TWELVE LANGUAGES The whole app - interface, categories and the reading voice - is available in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Arabic and Hindi. A Dutch church is read in Dutch, a French abbey in French - the app detects the language of each record on your device and picks a matching voice, instead of reading the world in English. ADD THE COUNTRY YOU ARE STANDING IN The map is free and complete. Heritage Plus downloads the country you are walking in at full density - Rome goes from 419 places to over 2,200, carried on the phone. The download is handled by the App Store itself, the way an app update arrives, and it carries nothing about you. THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE No reviews, no opening hours, no booking, no feed. It is a map of what is around you and what it is. The entire app - every button, every label, and the narration of each heritage record - is now available in twelve languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Arabic and Hindi. Also in this release: - The voice guidance now names the language you actually need. If you are walking in France, it tells you how to install a better French voice, not an English one. - Fixed a fault that could select a low-quality system voice for narration. - Corrected the in-app instructions for installing higher-quality voices, which pointed at a Settings screen Apple has since renamed. - Corrected the place counts in this description to match the database that actually ships in the app. ### 1.1.2 — 2026-08-18 If narration sounded flat, this update fixes the reason you could not do anything about it. Heritage Walker was pointing you at Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content to install a better voice. iOS 26 renamed that screen to Read & Speak, so the instructions led nowhere and the better voices looked unavailable. Both prompts now name the current screen and the older one, so they work whichever iOS you are on. The app also now notices straight away when you install a better voice and switches to it, instead of quietly carrying on with the basic one. ### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-17 Narration no longer picks one of iOS's novelty or legacy voices. Apple installs a set of them by default, they report the same quality as a normal voice, and one could quietly become your narrator - which is why some walks sounded robotic. If yours did, this update fixes it the first time you open the app. Heritage Walker now also shows you how to install one of Apple's natural-sounding voices. It is a free, one-time download from iOS Settings, and like everything else in the app it then works with no signal at all. Background music and podcasts return to full volume the moment narration ends, instead of staying quiet for the rest of your walk. ### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-15 Wales and Northern Ireland arrive. Every listed building in Wales and Northern Ireland is now on the map - 45,920 of them - along with 142,216 more places across the United States. They were in the source records all along, held in a coordinate system the map could not read. The United Kingdom now carries 950,614 places and the United States 478,627, both included with Heritage Plus. Adding a country still costs nothing to install: the app downloads at 37.8 MB whatever you choose to carry. ### 1.0.9 — 2026-08-13 Carry a whole country with you. Heritage Plus now adds the country you are walking in, in full - Rome goes from 419 places to 2,200, stored on the phone rather than streamed, so it still works with no signal. Fifty-one countries are available, nine at a time.
