### 5/5 — Nothing else like this

*2012-04-16, version 1.7.0*

Finally a great miniature skirmish war game has come to the iOS world. This game really scratches that itch for tabletop war gaming, without all the hassle.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2012-04-13, version 1.7.0*

Absolutely love this iPhone port will be sharing with all my friends!

### 5/5 — Nice job :)

*2012-04-12, version 1.7.0*

I've played the computer version of this game off and on for the past couple years, and I love it. Now I can take it wherever I go. I'm hoping for more campaign updates in the future, but besides that good job.

### 5/5 — Pretty Awesome.

*2012-04-12, version 1.7.0*

The review my Lil Pips has some great info, so I'm not going to overload you. If you are looking for a really crisp, cool RPG'ish game this is pretty spot on. The developer seems to be promising more content (free) in updates, and I don't mind the game not having an extensive campaign mode, though adding one would be a thoroughly welcome addition to an already good product. I bought it to doodle with while watching television or riding my exercise bike, or whenever I have a free few minutes. I'm patient, and with so many other sweet games vying for my attention I'm sure before I know it this will have several updates.

Hats off to the Dev, and thank you for bringing a game like this to my iPad/iPhone. I wish games bursting with juicy potential were released more often!

### 1/5 — grey screen

*2012-09-24, version 1.8.0*

cant play.. get grey screen which, when tapped goes to the web page, which tells me I cant play without flash. no rating

### 1/5 — No stars

*2012-04-19, version 1.7.0*

I bought this because of how much I still enjoy the computer versions. I will be trashing this version since it is nothing but a battle engine. Who cares? Admittedly if it was possible to actually win an occasional battle it might be different. I have been playing this for several days without being able to win a single battle. I have gone through the tutorial seven or eight times plus about twenty or thirty of the two different battle options. Hopefully the developers will actually rework this into an actual game rather than simply a battle engine. I would choose no stars exempt you are not given a choice. You have to pick at least one star to upload a review. This is why I choose to put "No stars" in the title field and the nickname field.

### 2/5 — Well made but frustrating

*2012-04-20, version 1.7.0*

A lot of time was put into this game, but it seems like there was no focus testing. No campaign? No difficulty slider? No thank you.

### 2/5 — Be aware

*2012-04-17, version 1.7.0*

I must admit I expected something quite different. There is no campaign mode so you are stuck playing simple single matches. This got old quickly. The game suffers from lack of options and a compelling reason to play. Couple this with a combat system heavily hinging on the RNG and you have something of an oddity. I uninstalled it, sadly after about ten matches.

### 2/5 — where is the Chinese

*2012-04-13, version 1.7.0*

It's too hard for new players.

### 3/5 — A great start, but some odd design choices.

*2012-04-12, version 1.7.0*

I'm glad I purchased this game, as I'd like to see more from this obviously talented developer. A LOT of Hero Mages is done extremely well. The graphics are crisp, the UI is beautiful, and things like the game log and line of sight are done better than in some AAA titles. The strategy on hand is good, if not particularly deep. The ability to have multiple offline and online games going at once is fantastic, and I wish more games included this.

Some negatives for this title:
1. Don't let the description fool you into thinking you are getting a campaign. The six missions are just a tutorial. The first three missions barely even let you do anything. The final three are fine (with some interesting choices that can even change the way the tutorial plays out!) but amount to maybe 15-20 minutes of gaming. This is a big negative, and almost strikes me as false advertising. A real campaign would be most welcome here.
2. Around half of the champions cannot be selected for games. They are only available during the very short tutorial missions. This seems silly, as more choices equals more strategy.
3. This most definitely has NOTHING to do with a CCG. The spells could (at a STRETCH) be called cards, but there is nothing collectible about them, and you cannot do ANYTHING with them before a game (no deckbuilding for example).
4. You track so many different statistics, and yet when it comes time to choose our champions, we must go to a WEB PAGE to see their health, attack, defense, and abilities? No No NO. Put this info where it belongs.
5. The lobby system is neat, but Game Center integration would be better (with leaderboards and achievements).

Don't let this stop you from picking this one up. With a few patches, this will be great!

### 4/5 — Awesome foundation but needs more

*2012-08-06, version 1.7.0*

This tutorial campaign was awesome and got me so excited!

But then many of the characters aren't available till the expansion

Potential to be incredible and will be a five star app in a month or so

### 4/5 — Great BUT

*2012-04-14, version 1.7.0*

Love the game, the style it's meshed in I like more than I thought I would. Loving it, HOWEVER, I hate the fact there are characters available that I can't play for whatever reason. If this is additionally purchasable, there should be a link in app.

### 4/5 — Very Promising

*2012-04-14, version 1.7.0*

I am a HUGE gamer. Played almost every RPG on the iPhone. I must say, this one has promise. It is like Hunters with a bit less slickness, but more in-game variety (with the spells and all) and a sword and sorcery theme. I'm enjoying myself so far and I would recommend it both for fun and to support the developer for putting in the effort to give us an enjoyable game.

### 5/5 — Looks awesome!

*2020-05-21, version 1.9.0*

I like it please update more it’s pretty fun but it looks sorta dead :( please continue to update this game!!!

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very fun

*2014-11-07, version 1.8.5*

Very fun and makes you use your brain. It's a pleasure to play this game with people.

Wish there were some new updates

### 5/5 — Awesome real time and async game!

*2013-08-15, version 1.8.5*

This game is great for board game fans! I love it so much I have bought for my kindle as well ( tho the App Store version seems to run smoother). The live games are so much fun, but the async mode is perfect if your short on time. I also love the combos between character abilities, well thought mechanics! Get it you won't be sorry!

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2013-03-11, version 1.8.5*

Just what I've been looking for. I love how balanced all the characters are. I have a blast just setting it on random and enjoying using whoever I get. What sets it apart from outwitters and hero academy is the single player. Sometimes, I just want a quick game without waiting for so and so to hurry his turn up. Amazing work! I was happy to support it by buying expansions. Please add a character gallery so I can quickly reference what people do without having to exit the app.

### 5/5 — Fun Game!

*2013-03-08, version 1.8.5*

Enjoyable game! Looking forward to more characters being implemented! :)

I like that the game's developer is very passionate about the game and its continued success.

### 5/5 — iOS, PC/Mac, Flash -- online multiplayer

*2013-03-05, version 1.8.5*

This game is cool.

If you just play iOS, its fun. But you can login multiplayer & play on Web (Flash), PC, Mac, and asynch turn-based.

Don't let the homebrew look throw you off. Actually a lot of game here.

You get a squad of 3 - a Mage and 2 sidekicks. So do the opponents -- up to 8 in a battle!

And that's what you do -- battle!! Dice rolls keep outcomes uncertain, but a few strategic tricks can change outcomes. Some really strong sidekicks (Barbarian...?), but generally all are useful.

Good game, highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Great TBS

*2013-01-14, version 1.8.5*

If you like turn based strategy games and or tabletop miniature battle games, this is your game. Look no further. It puts you right into the action with easy to understand rules and tutorials. It even has multiplayer. Hope there is added content later on. I also wish there were some sort of persistent level up mechanic and card collecting. But that's my one minor complaint. . . Well that and also I wish there were more main units. Buy it!

### 5/5 — Design is incredible!

*2012-04-24, version 1.7.0*

The design of the gameglay and the interface is incredible! It is so seamless! There are a couple limitations, but I know the developer is working on them! He keeps in close contact with his users, and for that reason alone you should download and check it out!!

### 5/5 — Impressive

*2012-04-22, version 1.7.0*

I am really impressed with the design of this game. Excellent turn based combat centered around dueling mages and their entourages. A large array of spells and special abilities. Really great stuff!

### 5/5 — Great

*2012-04-19, version 1.7.0*

Well a cross platform multiplayer game that uses cards mini's and D20... What's not to love. I had a couple issues and the developer had them corrected within hours. I have been a serious gamer for over 20 years now and have never got the kind of support that I have from this dev.

Thanks for the great game and great support!
