1) main cannon cannot be upgraded
2) best tactics is to use only main cannon without other towers.  lol. It is possible to jump with basic cannon all the stages except the last one
3) the last stage is impossible to beat.  Main cannon cannot be graded before the battle and it cannot handle the first wave.
