### 2/5 — App fine until end

*2019-11-11*

Played game but when I went into the final boss gate in the glacier, the game quits and now it quits on start up.

I would rate it as 4 or 5 but now a two as I cannot finish game

### 4/5 — Good but paywall

*2018-08-06*

It’s a good game so far, but eventually you hit a paywall. Suitable to play for a couple of hours if you’re looking for an ok free mobile RPG game.

### 3/5 — Iphone x support

*2018-06-11*

Love the game just wish i could play fullscreen on my iphone x.

### 4/5 — 3 star game, but 4 for nostalgia

*2018-03-18*

I probably would give this a 3 based upon the gameplay itself, but knowing and loving the genre for 30 years and seeing something like this on an iPhone for this price pushes it up a notch. I will support this game in its entirety and hope the devs make a sequel with some major improvements as I outline below in the negative section.

Positives:

If you are a classic Mac rpg fan and loved playing spiderweb games or Cythera from Ambrosia, you will appreciate this game.

Very inexpensive for 20+ hours per chapter (but see negatives regarding length below)

Not a lot of random unrewarding quests taking you back and forth to an area multiple times so far.

Combat often requires thought and planning... absolutely love that. This is not a hack and slash game.

Negatives:

Long and small printed dialogue

Long combat sessions from the beginning of the game. It can get boring

Trigger area is huge. You will have enemies from very far away coming at you for ages. Again, takes forever, gets repetitive and boring.

The 20+ hours for each chapter seems more related to long dialogue, long combat sessions and far/hypersensitive enemy triggering. It’s not the exploring or amazing storyline which requires 20 hours. It’s the constant combat at every turn and 15 enemies that take forever to get to you that causes the game to be so long. They aren’t adding value in this regard, sadly.

Confusing inventory and equip system

Complicated leveling/skill system

Needs a world map where you can see labeled cities/towns you’ve already explored. For 20+ hours per chapter, you are going to forget names of cities, etc.

Loot is very repetitive and there doesn’t seem to be a large variety of gear or weapons. Expect to keep the same weapon/gear for many levels and hours. I’ve yet to find any amazing equip or weapons except as a reward for completing part 1 of chapter 1. Chapter 1 part 2 had nothing valuable at all and the RNG on weapons or gear in chests seems to be basic stuff only. Nothing epic or legendary at all has been found in crates (not that this game has those classifications at all which is a shame, but you know epic or legendary items when you see them) and I am now in chapter 2.

The mage blows through SP way too fast. I completely understand that mages are going to use more spell power than a warrior, but a mage can blow through all of their SP in one relatively average battle. That’s a little excessive.

HP potions seem irrelevant. With a priest on board there are very few times I need to use them. SP potions are the one and only thing I stock up on. Seems like this should be more balanced since we find about 50/50 SP and AP potions in most chests.

Neutral:

I’ve not explored the crafting system yet and will need to spend some time online reading more about it as the in game information isn’t very informative or helpful for me.

I love when devs create unlimited possibilities for builds and teams. However, I feel this game has very little information in game to try and figure that out. I feel like I need to have a skill/build guide more so than in other classic rpg’s. Sure there is always going to be forums dedicated to perfecting builds and teams, but I feel this game requires one to consult them out of the gate or get lost in the dust. My warrior for example is pumping the basics such as sword and strength and does less damage than my mage by 1/5. Something’s wrong with that picture. Maybe the devs prefer meat shield warriors that do relatively less damage than others. I’m more of a warrior who goes in and does the most damage and also takes the most damage kind of player. With my support team buffing or healing me and being more strategic with my weak archers, mages and priests. Why is my mage the best on my team when I didn’t allocate my skills that way?

Anyway, best of luck to the devs. This could be a beautiful game for the future, but it needs a lot of work. And, I would pay premium App Store rates for a much improved sequel.

### 5/5 — Fantastic gameplay, fantastic support

*2018-01-30*

Truly excellent RPG with thoughtful and challenging combat rather than twitch-based. Great story, loads of regions to explore, and engaging characters. On top of that, check out the Trese Brothers site to see the incredible level of support they give their customers. Clearly, a game by people who love this style of gaming, and love their work. Will be looking to venture into their other offerings!

### 4/5 — An Absolute Gen

*2017-09-15*

I absolutely love this game, the tactical combat is very satisfying and the story is surprisingly well put together. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that I have ran into a couple glitches ( still stuck in the necromancer sanctuary patiently waiting for a patch to come to the App Store for 2 months). Never the less the game is so fun I didn't mind starting over with new characters. Bottom line is the game is awesome, yes there can be issues (might be waiting a little while on a patch) but at only $4 for 100 plus hours of gameplay you can't go wrong. Keep up the great work Trese Brothers

### 4/5 — Needs co op multiplayer!

*2017-06-28*

I wish I could play this game with friends. Each of us could be a class and fight our way through the evil together! If you add a good multiplayer I'll buy the game!

### 5/5 — Best game ever

*2017-04-28, version 4.3.1*

This is just a demo but u can purchase the rest for very cheap and it well worth it buy it

### 5/5 — Great RPG!

*2017-02-16, version 4.2.79*

Addictive gameplay, exploring, fighting leveling.

### 5/5 — Outstanding squad tactics game

*2017-01-08, version 4.2.75*

I love this game. The story is interesting and the tactical combinations among the characters are great. I really enjoy organizing each ambush or blitz. I wish there were more games like this!

### 5/5 — Rpg guy

*2016-12-22*

This is an amazing game. No major graphics(which real RPG'rs don't care about anyway)but enough to tell who is who and what is what. Very intriguing story so far. Level 42 now. I purchased every add-on... for 5 dollars I think. Honestly didn't need to. After trying the pay chars, I thought the standard chars were better suited to my tastes. I will be restarting another game with all the pay chars after I finish with the standard ones. If you like a good story, hugely diversified ability choices, and the ability to stop and start without having to be at a certain place or hit a certain button(and yes, if you walk away it will save exactly where you are, even in the middle of a battle), this game is a must try. Absolutely 5 stars!!!

DEVS---Please make sure to release another update for episode 4soon. The storyline told me that I can't get to the sea flats until then.

Update-- DEVS, please get rid of the little arrows below the group that allows them to change places. I keep hitting the buttons when I want to switch characters for AP use. It's kind of aggravating. I don't think anyone is going to be switching the positions every turn. Maybe a setting under options instead?
Still a must have game!!!

### 5/5 — Amazing RPG, great story arc

*2016-10-09, version 4.2.55*

Choose a team of 4 heroes, build up their weapons, armor, talents over time and battle a variety of enemies over an amazing arc of 4 chapters. High replayability through customization of different heroes, and great guidance and support on their forums. Additional characters available through in-game upgrades ensures you will be able to play this game over time. And time after time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Mediocre

*2025-01-04, version 5.1.8*

I’ve enjoyed it so far and bought chapter 1, which I’m playing now. And is the worthless Thief supposed to just walk over the million traps and die, or detect them and deactivate them? Thief is completely worthless. The game is pretty boring so far. Don’t plan to buy other chapters cuz I’m sure it’s just more bore fest. Wish I hadn’t bought Chapter 1. Total waste.

### 1/5 — horrible

*2023-01-06*

HORRIBLE

### 1/5 — Facebook required?

*2019-02-16*

I’m not joining Facebook to play a game. What a stupid restriction. Do you know Facebook isn’t safe? Do you not read the news?

### 1/5 — Heros of steel rpg

*2018-07-19*

I play to kill time on the easy level. First and second segments are fine. After level 30 i do not recommend playing. Null /void hits often go 9 or 10 out of 11 or 12 possible attacks. Basically a bunch of children with coprlithic grey matter playing dysfunctional algorithmic statistical idiocy while sucking vacuum.

### 1/5 — Don't install, NOT FREE

*2017-03-29, version 4.3.1*

Once you pass the "tutorial area", which you'll complete in your first couple hours of playing, it brings you to a screen where you must purchase the game by buying chapters of the game. There shouldn't be a free option to this game, it is just a shady way of getting people to buy your game. One star for the Trese Brothers, go back to star traders where the Brother's devotion and time should be. Don't install this free version, as the only thing you'll receive in return is disappointment.

### 1/5 — Update

*2016-11-10*

Was five star until the up date now unplayable please fix

### 1/5 — Latest rev broken

*2016-11-10, version 4.2.59*

Fun game with lots to do but latest rev is unplayable as characters can't move to most spaces.

### 1/5 — Game broken

*2016-11-08, version 4.2.59*

The game is broken. Most moving actions now result in path not found which renders the game not playable.

### 1/5 — Dose not work with iPad 4th gen

*2015-08-19, version 4.1.15*

Doesn't work on my iPad (4th Gen.) it kick me out the moment I click the game

### 1/5 — Ugh- bugs!?!?

*2015-04-29, version 3.2.17*

Great game and enjoyed the play until I was stuck in the Sanctuary cavern after the Great Seer Tower. Hope they come out with a fix or this was a waste.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Should I buy elite?

*2025-11-13*

If I already purchased the 4 episodes is there any reason to buy elite version? Is the elite the exact same just with all 4 episodes or is there additional content and updates?

### 5/5 — Add more stuff

*2024-01-23*

Add more characters and allow any character to use any slot when u pick your party

### 5/5 — One of the best tactical RPGs on mobile

*2023-04-09*

I’m a longtime fan of SRPG/TRPG so lately I’m on a kick of trying out different ones on mobile. This is one of the best I’ve found, and I’m definitely buying the full version.

### 5/5 — Very deep and long story in an intriguing unique world

*2022-11-06*

Really enjoying this game but it is very long and in-depth, and combat is tough, a single mistake can result in a loss as you can’t have a single character die.

### 5/5 — Great Tactical Play!

*2022-02-16*

The game is a great value. It’s not play to win at all. You only pay for added content, about $10 all in. If you like optimizing your characters and having lots of options this is the RPG for you. Just when you think you have it all figured out, there are new surprising combat challenges. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Incredible!!

*2021-10-20*

Play it for the hero diversity, loot, and skill levelling. Stay for the rich story writing.

### 5/5 — Great story

*2020-06-28*

I played the game all the way through and it was exactly what I was looking for. I well developed story that unfolded as you make critical decisions that impact the outcome of game. There are limited characters to pick from but different ways to build your team. The developers even help fix bugged games Incase you encounter any.

### 5/5 — Amazing SRPG, great value!

*2019-06-16*

It’s not the most in depth strategy RPG that’s ever been made, but it’s incredibly fun to play and well made. The turned based gameplay is simple and easy to pick up. The game adds a few layers of complexity as it progresses, and the choices you make in your character development can change how you manage combat in fun ways.

The story in the game is also very well written. Your characters interact frequently as you wander around the towns and dungeons of the game, and their banter is terrific. The underground setting of the game is interesting. If you enjoy games that tell strong stories that aren’t afraid to take their time, you’ll enjoy this game!

Heroes of Steel has a fairly generous free opening area, so you have nothing to lose by trying, and if you enjoy the game the paid content is lengthy, robust, and inexpensive. If you like strategy RPGs, you should try this game.

### 5/5 — Good.

*2018-06-21*

Good gameplay. Good story. Great value for money.

It takes the similar styled War Hammer games and improves on it by introducing an open world.

### 5/5 — One of the best RPGs I’ve ever played

*2018-03-30*

...the game isn’t easy. But it’s totally worth it to learn it.

Tips:
- max stone skin ASAP !
- split levelling up chocking ash & Firebolt
- buffs > than empowered strikes
- Kyera can be a wicked spell caster or a decent
Off tank. She’ll need a huge mana pool though
- use potions!
