And yes I am using the save. ### 4/5 — Such a great game! *2016-10-31* The only experience I've had with this type of reading is the "Give yourself Goosebumps", and I was never really a fan (I read almost every goosebumps book around). This was completely different, and in such an amazing way. The choices that you face are difficult, and will have a different outcome based on previous choices. The story is great and develops seamlessly at one point feeling like everyone is against you. The stats tracker is helpful, but the story moves along regardless of the stats in some places. It is very difficult to complete the story perfectly, but you can get a feel for the right answers after playing through the story once. I have already recommended it to a few programmers I work with, one of whom is already looking at the "choice of games" site to make his own. ### 4/5 — Great but... *2016-03-09, version 1.1.2* Would have given it 5 stars if any of the choices you make effect the outcome. There's a much larger number of characters, who have actual depth as well, rather than simply funnelling in new characters to fill spaces. The story is engaging and interesting and your choices have a real effect on the way the game ends. Couldn't recommend more. If you like superheroes and are at all literate (which I assume you are if you're reading this now), do yourself a favor and download all three of the Heroes Rise trilogy. This one, the Hero Project, happens to be my favorite of the three. It's framed as a reality TV show for superheroes, and in doing so it adds a lot of levels to how you choose to play: do you want to be a loyal popular hero, or an underdog soloist? A true hero or the villain the viewers love to hate? No matter which way you choose, the writing is excellent and the difficult decisions are fun and really immerse you in the game/story. Large swaths of exposition about nothing of interest. Your own character comes across rather pathetic and feeble, constantly being hoodwinked and playing second fiddle to a host of other, even less likable characters. Worst of all is the whole reality show premise of the plot that feels like a complete misunderstanding of the superhero genre and makes every "hero" involved feel like vacuous fame-mongers. There are beastmen gangs and transhumanist doomsday cults plaguing the world but the most important thing in all these heroes' minds is how to best pander to the camera in order to join some kind of celebrity hero club? The amount of time you spend actually being a hero in this game is a merest fraction of the time you spend worrying about how you look on camera. Gross and unentertaining. I'm actually mad at myself for continuing to read this after I started hoping this was some type of dream or virtual reality type thing. And I didn't get very far into the story before that happened. Heroes Rise was good and I plan on going back through it a few times. Hero Project was so long and ridiculous that I don't ever see myself sitting through it again. This was obviously wrong to do. Not only is the writing bad in the app, but as one previous reviewer states, you are rewarded for brown nosing acts, and pretty much nothing else. Back to the writing -- it's so boring, and stifling. There is no room for critical thought, as the author never obviously thought about it themselves. The language is elementary at best. They really drag you in to the story bloodily down a hallway. That being sad i dislike how concrete the story is. For a game about choices it is very linear with most of your choices not affecting anything and in between choices it deters alot for you. It really should be must more fluid of a story with multiple sides and way it should be told. Holy crap i just got to almost the end and im hurt. I admit to being into the story enough to care but the way i am strung along and the choice i make dont make any real difference hurts. The first part kept making my hero out to be an idiot in over his head. I tried to continue being a team playing, lawful, defensive hero and was repetively punishe for it. Lost my relationship with Black Magic over a vote and then got voted off the show after I followed the $1 guide to the letter for a perfect score, which the guide said to avoid. The Hero Project rewards cutthroat, glory-hogging, brown nosing pettiness. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this game if you value fairness or characters with actual emotional continuity. ### 2/5 — Throws civil rights in your face the whole time *2014-12-12* The writers are inordinately talented at binding compelling plots and vivid battles into a seamless spell, but they charged away from that with reckless abandon. Look, I've been supporting civil rights (no, not for one group of people - FOR ALL, no exceptions.) for a large portion of my life. That said, the writers decided to include, in an app under the "games," section a massive dialogue on gender equality. On top of forcing you into these situations (all with extreme reactions), there is a massively anti-climactic gender equality scene. It's a dense mess, the whole thing reads like a moral stream and preaches the infantile "golden rule" like a sermon. None of the characters has any backdrop of this whatsoever. It was like, all of a sudden, these characters gained a whole dimension to them and anglicized or demonized themselves as much as they could. The writer clearly wanted to get personal opinions into the game. And that's fine. But it's not fun. The last one was great, the next one is my favorite, but this is the only one that I want my $2.99 back on. It's fine to add personal opinions in a game as long as those opinions are the main subject. It's egregiously clear that they let gender equality fully define this game. Forced, incessant altruistic propaganda does not factor well into gaming. It's like being punched in the face every time the rival team scores, when you bought tickets to watch so you wouldn't get it. This is the one that affected me the most in a good way. I suggest if you read hero prodigy you should definitely read this one! I could not put it down really it's one of the best stories I've read on the company. It's filled with tough choices which could mean life or death and the depth of how you want to be perceived as a hero is always looming.
