For months, he cheated so much that the app developer had to create a couple updates to keep him from cheating. Now that cheating is not possible Victorious only plays players he knows he can beat and avoids everyone else. What a pitiful player. Anyway, this app has a lot of good stuff but also some quirks that detract if you are a serious player. The actual mechanics are better than the official Stratego app but the game has glitches that result in you being given losses when you didn’t earn them. **Developer response:** Hello! Thank you for the feedback! ### 2/5 — Too easy *2026-06-30, version 2.3.13* You can bait the AI into sacrificing his 1 to your spy in every game. When I played the board game, it was far easier to bluff a player whereas the AI continuously falls into the same traps every game. Perhaps you can program an ultra aggressive AI to mix gameplay up a bit. ### 3/5 — Good game *2026-05-02, version 2.3.7* This a good game! But there’s no way the AI doesn’t know where my pieces are. I can provide the evidence. But it will conveniently avoid pieces. For example, if I have a spy in a spot, the AI will advance the 10 until just before it reaches my spy then it will stop. As soon as I move my spy, the 10 moves. It does this for all pieces. ### 3/5 — “Upgrades Not So Great” *2026-03-12* So, the last upgrade, which was apparently designed to make the AI more difficult to beat actually made the game more tedious to play. The time for the AI to make a move became excessive, especially as the game went on ….. excruciatingly slow. A typical game could take as long as 45 minutes. Now, with this latest “upgrade” you apparently have one minute to make a move or you forfeit. Meanwhile, the AI takes forever to make a move! And, to top it off, in my first game, near the end when the opponent had two pieces left (one of them a scout) the game shut down, gave me a defeat and indicated I had no moveable pieces! WRONG! I had several …. Here’s an idea ….. if it ain’t broke, don’t “fix” it! **Developer response:** Hello! You’re right, that is indeed a bug. When Probe has no movable pieces left, it’s being incorrectly announced as the winner. I’ll publish a fix for this in a few days. Regarding the time limit: the one-minute cap applies to online games only and is unrelated to the AI. As for performance, most users have reported that Heroic Battle is reacting faster than ever. Has it noticeably slowed down for you since the latest update? ### 4/5 — Fun but easy and few players *2026-03-07* The game works and doesn't have many ads. It's fun and good for playing with friends. The issue is there's not many online players and the AI you can play against is very easy to beat (even on expert mode). Adding some optional modes from special editions would be cool as well. ### 3/5 — Best Stratego app *2026-02-17* Better functionality and gameplay than the official Stratego app or the knock offs. This is the version you need to get. That said, it has a couple glitches that need to be fixed to make it even better: - private games do not show the correct pieces between the two players, which makes games pointless. (My 2 appears as a 7 to my opponent, etc). This does not happen in “random” games and only occurs during private games. - the “probe” is extremely annoying and has a habit of moving back and forth over and over to capture pieces that are diagonally from it and that it can never capture. This habit makes playing the Probe a huge annoyance and time waste. - but the worst are all the players who, once they see they can’t win, disconnect rather than take the loss. Kind of a cross between chess and Memory. But very few players play and the few that do all disconnect from the app when they know they will lose. “Top rated” player Victorious is the absolute worst at this. No idea why the app doesn’t have a way to prevent this. In its current state there is no reason to play this game. ### 1/5 — Waste of time *2026-05-13, version 2.3.7* Players like Victorious and ArmyMP have ruined this game and the developer does nothing to fix the issue. Stay away until the game is fixed. playing it is an absolute waste of time. Any time you are about to win your opponent disconnects so they don’t take the loss. In my last 8 games, I should have had 6 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. Instead, I have 1 loss, 1 draw, and 6 disconnects because of Victorious and ArmyMP. I’ve played the original stratego both online (until it was removed) and in person for well over 15yrs and there is nothing about the game that should be AI based. This would speedily be changed to a 5 star review if you had online multiplayer. Not local. Previously, there were a couple issues affecting game play ( players intentionally disconnecting to avoid losses) but the developer fixed it so it works great now. the one minor issue is that playing the “probe” is extremely annoying and has a habit of moving back and forth over and over to capture pieces that are diagonally from it and that it can never capture. This habit makes playing the Probe a huge annoyance and time waste. But we all play Stratego to play each other so that’s not a big deal. Now it is faster reacting than ever before. ### 5/5 — Impressive Update *2025-12-04* I’ve been playing Stratego since childhood. I played against my brother when I was about 11 yrs old. This was in the 60’s. Once I found this game (Heroic Battle) many years ago available in electronic format I was pleased to see that the gameplay was great. But, honestly it wasn’t challenging enough most times. Fast forward to Nov 2025 and the DEV released a significant upgrade which definitely made it more challenging. "Probe" HAS evolved. It now has the capacity to "bait" you into a trap or away from your intended target. However, I do have a potential concern: There have been 3 instances since the update that I targeted one of Probe’s pieces that had just moved. But when I struck the piece to challenge it suddenly it was a Bomb which killed my piece. Dev, please test for a bug like this. All in all, THANK YOU for an impressive update. **Developer response:** The bug related to the Bombs is fixed.
