### 2/5 — Doesn’t live up to promise

*2026-07-14, version 3.11.0*

Downloaded after hearing about it on the Roadman podcast and to support my nutrition goals.
I’ve come to it from previously using myfitnesspal as a direct comparison- it does a bit more by syncing workouts and adapting targets on the go but really that’s about it. And my biggest bugbear is the scanning feature - hasn’t worked yet on one UK product which makes the whole application experience pretty terrible. You have to manually input every single macro which is time consuming and just workable for majority of users. Feel pretty ripped off to be honest.. if I could claim my subscription fee back I would.

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2026-07-08*

This app has so much potential but it has to many bugs and is not very user friendly.
One of biggest issues with it, is that logging your food is a pain. A lot of my foods are not recognized and the ones that are listed the macros are wrong. It also will randomly change my weight to 450lbs/204Kg. Which means that it doubles my calorie intake for the day. I can reset it and it still doesn’t save my actual weight.
This app has a long way to go before it is worth using.

### 2/5 — Food database disaster

*2026-05-20, version 3.11.0*

I’ve noticed that since the last update the food database has completely changed and no longer recognises uk brands in scanner or when I text names in. Everything is clearly the American version zucchini etc and is unusable for me. I’ve tried everything suggested clearing cache, logging in and out, checking location is set to Uk etc but nothing works. Considering leaving because it’s just too time consuming putting in everything manually with micro nutrients. It makes the feature pretty useless. Gutted as loved it before.

### 4/5 — What happened?

*2026-04-23*

It was pretty good when I started just under a year ago, tho I haven’t achieved my goals of losing the weight, not for not following the daily course but for sleep deprivation reasons, I believe this is a great tool. I took a break since you’re not ever really going to lose weight if you can’t sleep no matter how well you follow this. Coming back after getting the sleep fixed there has been a major update, the problem is I get kicked out everyday and have to log in over and over again. Guys, please fix this!

### 2/5 — Needs work

*2025-12-30*

Could be great but it is consistently inconsistent. Support is not responsive making the app not worthwhile.

### 2/5 — Impossible to cancel

*2025-11-12, version 3.6.0*

Have tried to cancel subscription but nothing has happened and being constantly chased for payment. Despite contact with support nothing has changed . I’d be cautious signing up

### 2/5 — It’s getting there

*2025-09-25*

I tried this app last winter and was not a fan. Nothing seemed to work correctly. I just downloaded it again as it is free with a training plan I am using. It has improved somewhat, but has a long ways to go. The good- it integrates well with training peaks. No issues pulling workouts for your schedule and adding them to your day. It doesn’t great job adjusting your intake based on the workouts you do. The nutrition suggestions for workouts also seem to work well. It would be nice if that added some hydration suggestions as well. The bad-the food logging is just not very good. Coming from MacroFactor, this app has a long ways to go. The scan feature was a nice addition. However, it works maybe 10% of the time. The interface is clunky and not user friendly. The cost is high for what you get. It makes more sense for me to use MacroFactor ($75/year) and the Saturday nutrition app ($5/month) than it does to use Hexis for $20/month. Both do a better job individually at what they are good at than Hexis does trying to combine the 2 with mediocre results. I will continue to try it while it’s free, and will update my review if things improve. It’s a great idea, it’s just lacking delivery.

### 3/5 — Workout input issues

*2025-08-19, version 3.4.0*

Why is this happening!!?

I love this app… BUT I cannot cannot get the workout is input for the rest of the week save to the correct day. It means the app can’t preplan my food because it won’t know what I’m doing for the next few days.. which is the whole point. It worked ok for a week and then just stopped. I fill in the date correctly then it appears on a different day.
The only other issue is that the pre workout carbs are VERY low but then the post workout carbs very high. Why is this? Surely not up to date with currently thinking.

### 2/5 — Worst part of the app is the app itself

*2025-06-12*

I like what they are trying to do with this app, but it seems like their strengths are not in coding because the app runs terribly. It would be one thing if you offered the app at a good price in exchange for users dealing with all the bugs and glitches, but its too much expecting me to pay full price and deal with this. Sometimes it takes adding a food item 4-5 times before it will actually save. Good concept, I wont consider redownloading this app for a while

### 2/5 — Update Flaws Make the Purchase Useless

*2025-06-04, version 3.1.0*

App was working well, but for some reason they decided to update the app almost fully, which make it so flawed that it doesn’t work correctly: 1st you can’t edit/update timing of meals; 2nd adjusting amount in quick menu always goes back to previous amount; 3rd Pull up menu doesn’t always function and now they updated something in the app that doesn’t fix anything, plus no support for paying costumers, you wonder who allowed this update to go out? Anyways, stay away, not worth the money at this time!

### 2/5 — Good content but poor SW development

*2025-04-22*

The idea is good and the database of foods is impressive. However, the user interface is too unreliable requiring app restarts to get screens unfrozen or to get the favorites list to completely populate or populate at all. Not a good value for a pricey subscription offering. I wonder if an earlier less widely distributed version was more stable and making the jump to a wider audience has exposed interface issues. I am being this honest because I worked in SW development for a long time and we would not allow a product like this past R&D. Sorry, guys, bad engineering.

### 2/5 — Promising Concept, But Too Many Bugs to Justify the Price

*2025-03-09, version 2.17.1*

I’ve been looking for a good nutrition app to support my cycling training and this one seemed ideal. The TrainingPeaks integration and coaching sync are great features and exactly what I was after.

However, it still feels unfinished and not reliable enough to justify the price. As a tech lead at a major software company, I can say with confidence that this app is full of bugs, crashes regularly and is frustrating to use. In the end, I cancelled my subscription because it just doesn’t offer good value for money in its current state.

The app has huge potential, but it needs regular updates and a real focus on fixing core issues.

### 4/5 — Solid App, Just Not for Me

*2025-01-31*

This app is more than a macro tracker for athletes. It offers guidance for macro timing for elite athletes based on when workouts are scheduled. And it purports to offer a performance boost for adhering to that guidance.

The integration with TrainingPeaks is a great feature. Having my projected calories burned automatically incorporated into my daily nutrition plan is one area where this app sets itself apart. The UX is pretty good, too.

However, the app’s focus on nutrient timing based on workout timing is more than I need. I already know to fuel before, during (endurance training only), and after my workouts. The app requires me to schedule my workouts so that each meal’s macros and calories can be determined.

I have a busy, evolving daily schedule. And most days I don’t know when I’ll get my strength training or cycling workouts in. I found the requirement to schedule my workouts in the app to be a barrier to using it. Scheduling my workouts at different times of the day changes the macros for different meals. So if my training schedule is variable or needs to flex, my macros for a given meal change from one day to the next.

This makes meal planning with the app very difficult. I found I stick to a nutrition plan better when I eat the same or similar things for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With the workout timings not being predictable, using the app for nutrition just became untenable. And at the end of the day, I’m better off with an app that I’ll use. Any performance benefit I personally might gain from optimizing nutrition timing is window dressing if I can’t even hit my daily macros using the app. (And I’m not so sure the research literature is settled on nutrition timing beyond fueling before, during, and after workouts anyway.)

Also, it’d be nice to track daily weight with the app. It seemed like users have to update their weight goals every time they’d want to update their weight, which is a bit clumsy.

Maybe a few improvements could make this app better. But I feel like the main selling point for the app, nutrient timing, would need to be sacrificed to make that happen. At which point, MyFitnessPal will get you there anyway.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-01-11*

Total waste of $20. It never worked for me. Very slow. None of the integrations work. Not ready for prime time

### 2/5 — Should be good but isn’t

*2025-01-02*

Concept makes sense but the functionality with the camera and food library is lacking

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unusable.

*2026-06-28, version 3.11.0*

Tried to give this a go. But the app and website are both completely unusable.

### 1/5 — Not ready for actual use. DO NOT PURCHASE

*2026-05-13*

I purchased this app based on the fact that it could integrate with Garmin and/or Intervals.icu. In both cases it was not able to do so. I messaged support over 10 days ago to see about a refund. I got one email back suggesting that I try to reconnect the app Garmin and intervals.icu. This is something I had already tried before I messaged support. After trying it for a third time and it still not working, I messaged support for a refund. I have not been ghosted for over 5 days. DO NOT fall for the claims that the developer has regarding the app integration. This is nowhere near ready for actual use.

### 1/5 — Don’t buy

*2026-04-11*

I am an avid cyclist and used to like this app. They then released a major update ruining the app. The app now has a much smaller food database. In addition it no longer recognizes products from major cycling food brands. A significant number of foods only support grams and not other measurements. The app now sucks. I am canceling my subscription at the end of my contract period and I am considering moving to a new app express then. Nice job Hexis!!!!!

### 1/5 — Recent Database update

*2026-04-11, version 3.9.0*

I like Hexis, I love what it is trying to achieve, and I found it useful. That was until last week and the Database ‘update’ last week.
It has basically left it unusable for me.
All custom foods gone.
All UK based foods gone.
My custom meals all messed up.

I’m pretty annoyed to be honest, it’s the start of race season and whilst it is not the be all and end all, Hexis was a tool that I could rely on to dial in my nutrition. Now it’s useless for me.

I am seeking to cancel my subscription until a time when Hexis is back and functional.

### 1/5 — Latest update

*2026-04-08, version 3.8.0*

The finding food search / creating meals seemed fairly poor already.

The latest update has deleted all the custom foods I add in addition to searching for items now not working at all.

App is now completely unusable for me. Such a shame as I really want it to work….!

### 1/5 — This app isn’t for sedentary calorie counters

*2026-04-06*

I really wanted to love this app because the actual nutrition approach has helped my performance, but the recent update has been a major downgrade.

The food logging is now much worse. Favorites are gone, foods I used regularly no longer show up, barcode scanning fails on items that should be easy to find, and the whole experience feels more broken than before. The old version was glitchy, but at least it was usable. This update made the app far more frustrating and much less functional.

If the team restores the old logging reliability and fixes the database/search issues, I’d be happy to improve my rating. But right now I can’t recommend it based on the current app experience.

This app isn’t for sedentary calorie counters and that’s the point

Most of the bad reviews are from people trying to use Hexis like MyFitnessPal. That’s the wrong audience.

Hexis is built for endurance athletes whose fueling needs change every day based on training load. It syncs with real training data and teaches you when and how much to eat not to obsess over logging lettuce.

Once you understand the small / medium / large carb approach, it’s far more useful than traditional calorie apps. I can look at my training and immediately know how to fuel, even when traveling or eating out.

If you’re sedentary and just want to “stay under calories,” stick with MyFitnessPal.
If you actually train and care about performance, Hexis is on another level.

### 1/5 — Terrible unratable

*2025-12-04*

I can’t believe I paid for this. Food look up is painful given what is available on other apps. The app lags. Logging into the site lags. Information is poorly structured and the workflow is prehistoric. I can’t believe I paid for it.

### 1/5 — Just wont work

*2025-11-23, version 3.6.0*

I download the app paid the money and its just will not work - the login page will not load either online or in the app - so I cannot login - there’s no live contact support so I can’t resolve.

### 1/5 — Data being lost

*2025-04-08, version 2.18.0*

Been using for over a week and been recording pretty religiously and now all my data keeps dropping. Such a waste of time and effort. So disappointing as initially thought the app was going to help - probably heading back to another app

### 1/5 — Be warned - these people will take subscription fees even after u tell them u don’t want to renew

*2025-02-15, version 2.17.1*

They have done this to me twice now.

### 5/5 — I’m on the team!

*2026-01-03*

I’ve tried quite a few. Feel this one is the best thus far. Using in conjunction with TPeaks.

### 5/5 — Improved significantly since launch

*2024-12-24, version 2.15.1*

I've used Hexis for about 10 months. In that time, the app has improved dramatically. The foundation has always been solid - a useful tool to periodise nutrition around endurance training. The UI is now much better and performance improvements have made the app a pleasure to use.

I am an enthusiastic amateur cyclist, racing and training 15 hours per week. Hexis helps me understand when and how much of each macro to eat to optimise training adaptations and body composition. It has caused a significant shift in the amount of carbs I eat before and during longer rides, and a general significant increase in protein intake (difficult as a mostly plant-based athlete).

Being able to save favourite foods and create custom foods (e.g. my regular recovery porridge recipe) are great time-saving features that make logging easier. This is essential for consistency.

I use the app to track all food during intense periods of training and racing, and to check general macro requirements (but not to track all food intake) during off season.

The TrainingPeaks integration is amazing. I look forward to seeing the recipes the team creates in future updates (especially those that help plant-based athletes take on more protein!)

### 5/5 — Excellent product!!

*2024-12-22, version 2.15.0*

The concept behind this app is great! It’s a newer app so there are some minor kinks here and there as a result, but the developers are consistently isolating and addressing them. As an athlete I haven’t had any major issues with the app and the benefits/usefulness so far outweigh any minor “new app” problems.

### 5/5 — Significantly improved performance using Hexis

*2024-10-30, version 2.9.2*

I thought I had a good idea of how to fuel my training sessions, but my performance and recovery has hugely improved since using Hexis.

I love being able to integrate with Training Peaks and see my future sessions. This allows me to plan my meals and intraworkout fuelling for upcoming sessions, rather than just guessing.

My power numbers and FTP have gone up significantly over the last few months 🚀

### 5/5 — World class performance nutrition in an app

*2024-08-02*

Hexis syncs with Training Peaks to see all my upcoming workouts and provides me with the nutrition guidance in order to hit all my goals. It’s super easy to use, absolutely love it!

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2024-03-11, version 2.2.24*

Great for personalised nutrition planning! TrainingPeaks integration makes a massive difference and very simple to use.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2023-11-19, version 2.1.5*

This app has given me back structure. It has made aware of what high/medium and low carb is.

Really enjoying navigating this resource.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2023-07-03*

I have been using the Hexis app for about one month. I started using the app to help me fuel and recover from my cycling workouts, with the added goal to lose weight. I am training for the Ride Across Portugal in May 2024. At 63 I am trying to be as professional in my preparation as possible. Hexis is helping me do this effectively and effortlessly.

For Australia, a small improvement could be to update the food bank choices, but that’s it.

Can highly recommend the app if you are serious about achieving you full potential.
