### 4/5 — pronunciation issues

*2026-10-11, version 1.1.1*

its an amazing app. truly the best irish language app that exists. my one gripe is that it will not register my pronunciation 1/5th of the time to the point where i have to either close the lesson and/or restart the app.

### 3/5 — Missing something

*2026-10-08, version 1.1.0*

I love that there’s so much conversation but most of the time I don’t know what I’m really saying and sometimes it’s hard to understand the speaker.

### 5/5 — “Haigh, a mhuintir!” ☘️

*2026-10-04, version 1.0.10*

This is way better than Duolingo - I was born in Canada and when I was little - way back in the 80’s my parents forced me to go to Gaeilge school on the weekends. Eventually I convinced them to let me quit (my thinking was if they don’t even speak it Ireland what’s the point of me learning it in Canada) - one of my biggest regrets - I’m super excited to of found this app. Go raibh maith agat ☘️🇮🇪 to the geniuses that made this app.

### 5/5 — Finally

*2026-10-04, version 1.0.10*

Life has been so crazy that I haven’t been able to go to a in person course. Amazing way to learn.

### 3/5 — Not quite there yet

*2026-10-04, version 1.0.10*

I’ve been using the app for two weeks now and paid for the upgrade for a year. It still has quite a few bugs, which is disappointing. I tried to contact support via the App Store but it gave me “route not found”. “Report a problem” gave me “page not found”.

### 5/5 — The best!!

*2026-10-04, version 1.0.10*

I’m not one to review apps usually but this is an amazing app, such practical real world language learning and I love the pronunciation trainer!! One of the very first lessons is for going to the pub which I love 10/10

### 5/5 — Gaeilgeoir guides fan here.

*2026-10-04, version 1.0.10*

Glad you got this up and running- you’ve done amazing work bringing NSW Irish descendants back to the language their great greats came out here (AUS) with but chose to leave behind. With your wonderful initiative I’m picking it back up. ✨☘️

### 5/5 — Eileen’s lessons

*2026-10-03, version 1.0.10*

Quick, interesting way to do lessons

### 5/5 — Sell who you are

*2026-10-01, version 1.0.10*

If Beim and HeyRua are utilizing 1. Human software engineers 2. Real Irish speakers and 3. In or partially in Ireland…. and I suspect you are, SELL THAT. It’s too easy for a developer and some AI in China to build these smaller apps these days. People interested in speaking a language like Irish are going to be very attracted to the human element and real ties to Ireland. If you have that, start including an “about” tab or something. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Great pronunciation help

*2026-10-01, version 1.0.10*

This is exactly what I needed to fill in my learning gaps. I can massacre pronunciation with feedback in the privacy of my own home without the embarrassment of doing it front of an actual person. I chose the Kerry dialect so even when I master this most people would have no idea of what I am saying but I will greatly improve my confidence.

### 4/5 — Great App

*2026-09-30, version 1.0.10*

Mic feature is the best

### 5/5 — Great app and team

*2026-09-30, version 1.0.10*

The app is very intuitive and accessible. When bugs are identified, they seem to be fixed very quickly. I had an issue with my subscription and the team was very understanding and helpful. I would recommend this app to anyone looking to learn Irish.

### 4/5 — Great learning tool

*2026-09-30, version 1.0.10*

Been using this app for 2 weeks now. It’s a great for getting words to come out of your mouth.

### 4/5 — Very helpful!

*2026-09-30, version 1.0.10*

I’ve been trying to self-teach Irish for a couple of years & struggled with it, but the app’s really helping me be more consistent with actually practicing my speaking!
I’d love if the app would make use of my own name, where I live, and so on, so I could practice that in-app instead of saying someone else’s name or city

### 4/5 — Good but can get better

*2026-09-30, version 1.0.10*

Have only been using it a few days and enjoy it so far! Also the little I know is, it’s a small team working to make improvements! I made a suggestion to the team via their websites and actually heard back! My hope is to only help them make a the app better for people to really learn the beloved Irish language.

### 5/5 — So fun to practice speaking Irish

*2026-09-30, version 1.0.10*

I’m only on day two but have enjoyed so far (60 lessons in). My only issue is that sometimes it lets me through with fair pronunciation when I’ve said the wrong word entirely or just very poorly pronounced. But it’s genuinely so fun to brush up on the cúpla focal. I set it to beginner but I have actually pretty decent Irish I just don’t speak it. I’m not sure how it would be to learn from nothing but it’s exceeded my expectations and hopes for it so far.

### 5/5 — Finally an App as Gaeilge that helps!

*2026-09-29, version 1.0.10*

I’m on Week 2 of Hey Rua. I was cynical at the beginning. The Irish function of Duolingo was okay but it’s so frustrating when there is little for Gaeilge Uladh.

Hey Rua promised a lot. In the first couple of days I had some issues with a glitch in the chat function. I looked up a contact for the App and was amazed that Eamon got back to me in minutes - this was no AI chatbot… voice messages getting to the issue in seconds!

Okay: there are some limits to the App. Ulster pronunciation is great, but some sentence structures are said in Ulster pronunciation but uses Connemara Irish…

But honestly? There has been about five updates over the past two weeks and each one makes functionality and sensitivity to my Antrim pronunciation better every time.

It is well worth the investment. It will help build USEFUL vocabulary and improve pronunciation.

And much bigger Apps could take a lesson out of this team’s customer service and hunger to keep improving how it works.

GRMMMA!

### 5/5 — Wayne

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paying for bad Ai

*2026-10-01, version 1.0.10*

You get the first lesson for free, but the AI doesn’t sound like what it’s supposed to and I’ve tried most of the dialects and my first lesson. I mean two words that you have to say 10 times.

### 1/5 — Paywall blocked learning a eradicated language

*2026-09-30, version 1.0.10*

I mean if you enjoy the British occupying our land, then you should really LOVE this app - we thought it wasn’t possible to find a way to extract the Irish people of their money in lieu of culture but we’ve done it again! Download it while it’s hot

### 1/5 — Error message with speech

*2026-09-27, version 1.0.8*

I have just paid £89 for this app and now there is a constant error when trying to do the speaking lesson. The support link goes nowhere and there is no other visible means of contacting the developer as I have a “no route” message. Sort it out please or refund me.

### 1/5 — Glitch

*2026-09-27, version 1.0.8*

Sound not working

### 1/5 — App is not working and there is no way to get help

*2026-09-25, version 1.0.8*

Really love this app to begin with and was all in to pay for it to continue learning. Then all of a sudden their errors in the app that won’t let you move forward through the lessons.. Additionally, there is no way to get help! Extremely frustrating. Until they get their act together and have a means to report issues with the app I would either buy nor use.

### 1/5 — Poor Functionality

*2026-09-25, version 1.0.8*

Slow, lags, doesn’t register speech well. Duolingo has all of this and is easier.

### 1/5 — Paywall

*2026-09-21, version 1.0.6*

Unfortunately you can’t do more than one lesson before hitting a paywall. The premium subscription is a bit high for a single language app. Was really hopeful to start learning more about grammar and pronunciation but will have to look for a more affordable option.

### 1/5 — Paywall

*2026-09-19, version 1.0.6*

I was very excited to learn Gaeilge since it’s my family’s language, but I can barely learn on here. Almost everything is behind a paywall, and the things that aren’t would make you skip ahead. A monthly subscription is expensive for a language learning app, and one that is not worth purchasing. I had pretty moderate expectations for this, and I wish they could’ve been met.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2026-09-18, version 1.0.5*

I speak the conversation parts well, it displays my spoken part 100% correct and keeps saying it is wrong, then takes ages to load.
Broken!

### 1/5 — Too many bugs

*2026-09-18, version 1.0.5*

The transcription in Lesson 2 didn’t work at all no matter how many ways I tried it. The audio of the native speakers cut out slightly before the last sound, a bit like Duolingo does on word-matching. Great idea for an app but unfortunately it’s not ready for prime time.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Getting the hang of it

*2026-10-11, version 1.1.1*

This app has really helped me connect to my late great great grandparents. Im learning slowly but surely. Im really hopeful that it will stick. Its only been 4 days but fingers crossed

### 5/5 — Very helpful

*2026-10-10, version 1.1.0*

I have been doing Duolingo for 10 months now and while I’m picking up the words, it does nothing to teach you to speak. This app is great because it uses every day scenarios to help you speak correctly. Few bug fixes like it won’t pick up simple words sometimes like “an” and I have to yell it to get it recognize it. Other than that I’m 2 weeks in and enjoying it. I really like that the lessons are short as well.

### 5/5 — Dia duit

*2026-10-10, version 1.1.0*

Perfection. Love the app. Thank you for helping me finally learn my mother tongue

### 5/5 — Superb app

*2026-10-09, version 1.1.0*

A terrific way to practice getting better at speaking Irish every day. Fun to use!

### 5/5 — Great Practice, But…

*2026-10-09, version 1.1.0*

Love the app for pronunciation practice. As noted by others, however, there are certain words (“tae” and “míle” so far for me) that are not recognized by the app no matter how loud I shout at my phone!
Update: bugs seem to be fixed making the app a great way to practice speaking Irish everyday and everywhere.

### 5/5 — I’ve been loving it so far!

*2026-10-09, version 1.1.0*

Only a week in, but I saw this app because of Gaeilgeoir Guides on instagram. I loved seeing his lessons and then seeing that he made this app/supporter this app, I had to get it. I was using Duolingo because it was better than nothing, but Irish is clearly not where Duolingo makes their money so the app mostly just had typing / fill in the blank. Hey Rua has been great for speaking a pronunciation which has really helped me get on my way to learning the language.

### 5/5 — Love it so far

*2026-10-08, version 1.1.0*

I love practicing the pronunciation! That’s what I’ve lacked in other Irish language learning apps

### 5/5 — Not Broken Now

*2026-10-07, version 1.1.0*

It’s only fair to return here to change my review to reflect the developer’s response and the new app performance.

It now works very well, no long waits for loading and no longer being told I’m wrong despite having pronounced everything correctly as shown.

So, thank you devs.

### 5/5 — Rua is a cutie!

*2026-10-07, version 1.1.0*

So fun and engaging and works really well! I really get a kick out of all the little fox animations

### 5/5 — Everything i’ve ever wanted.

*2026-10-06, version 1.0.10*

Ive been learning Gaeilge on my own using Duo and other online resources for the last 12 years, completing and re-doing the same course over time, but the one thing that’s always been missing is the speaking section on that app. I can confidently say, that with only 3 days using this app, my fluency and retention in speaking AND thinking has only accelerated since opening this app. This is a MUST if you’re interested in learning and using the language. GRMA
