They haven’t worked consistently for months. I’d say they work maybe 1/6 of the time, which obviously isn’t very convenient. The purpose of the feature is for me to turn it on, forget about the app, and still have my music be saved, but instead I have to constantly micromanage it. ### 4/5 — More Need To Know *2026-08-08* More people need to know about this app. I’ve seen far too many cases where people have lost their whole library due to their subscription lapsing. My only issue with this app is that I’ve been using it for two years, and I paid for lifetime pro, and my auto backups still turns itself off. I’ve looked it up and apparently it’s a known issue, but it’s really really annoying. Makes the whole process wayyy less seamless. (Which is why I removed a star) Still an essential app for me and very highly recommend. :) ### 3/5 — Free Is allegedly not useless *2026-06-28* Exporting a backup costs money so if you swap phones you lose all your backups Apparently it syncs and you shouldn't but i'mmissing every backup I made on my old phone over 3 years, they didn't sync, made a new one so it isn't an issue, but I do fear losing it since exporting the backup requires payment, this is the cheaper option for lifetime but I already have songshift lifetime from when it was the cheaper option, so I'll keep using that probably. Will use this as a backup. **Developer response:** Hello, as long as you log in with the same Apple Account on your new iPhone, your backups are safe and will reappear via iCloud Sync. I hope this is helpful and you will reconsider your review. ### 3/5 — Not quite there *2026-05-10, version 1.9.2* This is, I believe, a fair and balanced review of this app. The premise behind the app is spot on, and the execution in manual mode is, frankly, superb. That leaves the automatic backup mode, which I believe is the apps primary selling point. Unfortunately, the auto backup feature, has never, to my knowledge, worked reliably. That fundamentally undermines the app’s core premise, because no one can predict when they’ll need to restore their music library from a backup. Frequent and automatic backups are therefore essential. In this app, backups are simply not frequent or automatic. ### 4/5 — Great backup service but it’s been crashing lately *2026-03-03, version 1.7.7* The app has been crashing each time I try to do a backup but it may be due to me being on iOS 26.4 Public Beta ### 3/5 — Needs One Tap Album Recover *2026-01-06, version 1.7.7* The app works well, but I wish there was a way to recover albums with one tap instead of having to tap each track individually. ### 3/5 — Works well…when it works…which doesn’t seem to be very often *2025-12-19* The auto-backup functionality seems to be pretty inconsistent. I have the app running in the background on my phone at all times, and it seems like more often than not, it just doesn’t do anything despite having it set to auto-backup one or two times a week. Additionally, I have it set to only use 1 GB of space for backups, yet my system storage often says it’s using more than that, forcing me to manually delete older backups, instead of automatically deleting them like it’s supposed to. Additionally, if I go into the app settings and try to clear the memory, It often leaves a fair amount of data still just hanging around. I’ve had to tell the app to clear the memory multiple times in a row before it actually fully clears up the space being used. I don’t know what exactly it’s doing, but overall, the app seems to reach and exceed the data limit I’ve assigned in the app settings much sooner than I would expect it to. It’s definitely not a “set it and forget it” type of situation. I frequently have to check if it’s even done it’s scheduled backup in the first place, and then I have to spend extra time manually erasing older backups because it doesn’t want clear them out automatically like I assume it’s supposed to do. If I could rate it 2.5 stars, I probably would. Saved my life. *2025-11-08* I thought I had lost all my playlists, but then I noticed they were still (and only) in my iPad, cause I didn’t sync it. With Hezel I was able to backup all playlists in IPad and restore it on my others apple devices. I got so relieved that I had to to buy the Ultra version just to show how pleased I was! I found a track had been deleted I didn't remember removing so I went to recover and the app crashed every single time. So I tried creating a new backup and wanted to see if the problem would persist and it did. As a test I purposely deleted a song from a playlist of mine and went to check the app to see if it would display the missing song from the playlist so I could recover and nothing showed up. Needless to say this app as of right now is completely useless for what its purpose is. All I can say is thank God I found this bug out before I lost more than just a single song. Tja, klappt nicht. Die Playlists hat die dumme Musik-App gelöscht, ohne erkennbaren Grund. Also ein Backup mit Hezel wieder einspielen. Ging nicht. Deleted. ### 1/5 — Core feature is great *2024-03-10, version 1.2.3* The core feature of this app is great and does its singular job perfectly, the whole app does however get let down by small but totally unnecessary and irritating stuff. I discovered that after each update the automatic backup setting was being turned off, not a big deal I thought, I’ll just inform the developer. So I go to the apps settings and tap feedback, instead of just being taken to a standard in-app email module I get taken to some weird looking Google forms feedback page, ok now if this worked reliably then I’d say fine, that’s how the developer wants to do it, it’s up to them, but instead you tap submit and you get page couldn’t be loaded, several times over, until finally Eureka, it goes through. Then when the developer responds, which I have to say was very prompt, he gets let down once again by my response to his email to me bouncing back with a message saying email has been blocked! Something that started as a non big issue ended up really upsetting the heck out of me. The developer needs to not only make sure that their core functionality within the app works flawlessly, which it does, but that other related functionality also works without issue, the small stuff matters, get rid of the google forms for feedback, it’s unnecessary fluff, and fix your email and please take care of the auto backup turning off after each update which should have been the only issue, not the fact that you’ve got a mostly non functioning feedback form or that your email doesn’t work, why put yourself through self inflicted pain!? Just makes no sense. Edit: After thinking about this a while I’ve updated my rating from 3 to 4 stars, the core functionality of the app is good although I’ve not been in a situation to test recovering music lists but this is why I removed one star. I think I was previously too harsh about other relatively small issues, don’t get me wrong, they matter, but beating the developer up over them won’t be helpful to him/her or speed up getting the issues looked at and hopefully fixed. The overriding truth is the app does work very well, at least the backup part of its feature offering, this in itself is a cause for celebration these days with so many apps riddled with bugs but still managing somehow to get past Apples reviewers who seem more and more unable to properly police App Store submissions despite Apple’s constant protestations to the contrary, Hezel is definitely not one of those! ### 2/5 — autobackups keep turning themselves off *2026-05-04* The automatic backups keep turning themselves off. I suspect that this setting is reset after updating the app. Very annoying! And I'm sure I don't need to explain that this is highly problematic and ultimately renders the app useless. It simply copies all your music data (albums, tracks, playlists etc.) into a separate memory location on the iPhone itself. If your music files ever get corrupted or deleted, either by an app like iTunes or Apple Devices or Apple Music or accidentally by yourself, it allows you to nearly instantly restore them in seconds! If you have a lot of music files and a lot of free storage space on your phone, this use a no-brainer. It does NOT use any offline cloud storage.
