### 2/5 — Latest update

*2026-06-03, version 8.2.240*

The latest update has not improved the UX. On opening the app, if the user does not carry a monetary balance, the user is told they have insufficient funds. This is extremely misleading, I have multiple pre-purchased tickets, so any message about funds is irrelevant. Only if the user is in the process of purchasing tickets is that message relevant.

### 2/5 — More of a money grab

*2026-06-03, version 8.2.240*

What about this app is simpler to use? The UI is much less intuitive and the app tries to get me to put money in every time I open it.

HFXGO is now more difficult to use, not simpler.

### 2/5 — Shouldn’t be this hard

*2025-07-12, version 7.8.22*

Takes your money for tickets but that’s about it. Needs to provide schedules, or at least frequency of operation. Actual route maps too. The written descriptions are not very helpful. Assuming that google maps crawl a schedule from somewhere correctly is not OK. Also the policy of transfers should be explained before you purchase a ticket.

### 1/5 — Bus tickets, not the monthly pass, purchased through the app expires after 365 days

*2025-01-17, version 7.8.22*

As stated in the title, Halifax Transit bus tickets purchased through the app will expire 365 days after the purchase and are non-refundable.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-12-21, version 7.8.22*

Tried to find a bus stop near me. Tells me it’s on Albemarle St. Walk from entrance to Scotia Square up to the street on icy sidewalks only to find no bus stops whatsoever. Ended up walking in complete circle back to entrance where I was advised by helpful individual. Found stop on Barrington St. Search app for that stop to find out next bus. Stop # doesn’t exist.

### 1/5 — No Password Reset

*2024-12-05, version 7.8.22*

App logs you out and the password reset feature doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — App will not accept my payment

*2024-11-01, version 7.8.22*

When I try to add funds to my account my card is rejected. It is a BMO Debit-MC issued within the last six months in Canada with 0 holds and funds in the account. I have no issue using my card in a taxi, so I’ll continue to avoid HFX Transit until they fix what should be a very simple issue (CostCo has already corrected a similar issue with my card batch # in a matter of days).

### 2/5 — Can it BE anymore complicated???

*2024-10-19, version 7.8.22*

I’m visiting from BC and was happy to see I could pay for the bus by my phone. But wow what a joke. You have to do a MILLION prompts just to the QR code. Why couldn’t they have made this easier?

### 3/5 — Very slow and sluggish app

*2024-10-06, version 7.8.22*

Almost everytime when I am in hurry and want to open this app real quick to not miss the bus, it keeps my anxiety up ss it doesn’t load. Once, it didn’t even open my tickets. Sll otjer apps on my phone are working fine, internet is decent. Please make the app a little bit faster please.

### 1/5 — It was going so well

*2024-09-17, version 7.8.22*

It was working as expected, for 2 days. Now it does accept my credit card no matter how much I try :/

### 1/5 — Credit only

*2024-09-01, version 7.8.22*

Useless if you only have debit. Hopefully this will change.

### 2/5 — Can’t Use :/

*2024-08-05, version 7.8.22*

Doesn’t accept my Mastercard Debit. What a bummer.

### 1/5 — Embarrassingly terrible design

*2024-07-16, version 7.8.16*

Halifax has no excuse for how terrible this app is. It would be simple to get support from other cities with mobile fare apps, but instead they’ve designed the worst app I have ever seen, and the functionality is abysmal. Absolutely atrocious. The app does not accept BMO cards, and after speaking with customer service, I learned they “have no solution for this problem at this time” and “the app just doesn’t like BMO”. Today, they failed to accept a Scotiabank card too—in Nova Scotia! In 2024, you only need to be compatible with wallet to solve payment functionality problems. There are endless resources to fix this. They haven’t done their due diligence to get white listed by banks, either. A total embarrassment for Nova Scotians and the city of Halifax.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Device Switch Limits

*2026-06-21, version 8.2.240*

Switch limits are silly, if my device dies and I need to log in through another phone and then switch back to my phone, then I’ve used 2 of the 3 switches. For your safety it says.

### 1/5 — Worse than ever, now

*2026-05-27, version 8.2.240*

No active passes shown without several refreshes. A list of passes is counterintuitive, in any case—one needs a button, front-and-centre, that allows immediate access to an active pass. Inactive passes shouldn’t be seen at all.

Just horrendous UI/usability.

### 1/5 — Rarely works

*2025-11-25, version 7.8.36*

This app is so bad. I wish I could give no stars. It rarely works and my money and tickets are trapped in it.

### 1/5 — Why

*2025-08-29, version 7.8.36*

Dear god why is it an 8 step process to buy a single ticket

### 1/5 — absolutely awful, not even worthy of any stars

*2025-06-08, version 7.8.22*

card started declining randomly for no reason even though there’s more than enough balance, was working fine but randomly will start declining your cards for random periods of time with no explanation. horrifically inconvenient, absolute garbage app. has made me have to pay more out of pocket for ubers because it refuses to accept my card even though it was working fine before. disappointing waste of phone space.

### 1/5 — Could be a lot better

*2025-06-03, version 7.8.22*

App is glitchy, I also wish the QR Code screen would brighten when I try to scan onto busses—it takes me way to long for the code to process when trying to get onto busses.

### 1/5 — pathedic

*2025-05-08, version 7.8.22*

password retrieval doesn’t work. this city does a terrible job at supporting those who use transit.

### 1/5 — Fix your loading screen

*2025-04-18, version 7.8.22*

The app needs to be able to load up instantly. There is no need for the 30 second loading time when you open the app. Also get rid of your ridiculous multi device limits.

### 1/5 — Worse app ever

*2025-03-21, version 7.8.22*

Claims you dont need data wifi to use it but you do. I re-synced at 440 pm boarded my bus , but on trip back at 720pm it said i needed to re-sync again but without data i couldn't and ticket wont work

### 1/5 — UDID blocked

*2025-02-13, version 7.8.22*

The developer has blocked my phone's UDID from accessing the app and is ignoring my requests to unblock it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Super

*2026-04-16, version 7.8.36*

### 5/5 — Awesome for buying bus tickets without cash

*2025-06-24, version 7.8.22*

Thanks you for making this app to buy fare for bus without finding exact change

### 5/5 — Works well

*2023-11-07, version 7.8.16*

Not sure why people are complaining.. really.
The app works, save you time and it’s convenient.
The bus system in Halifax on the other hand is a joke, a bad joke!

### 4/5 — Perfect when visiting HFX

*2026-07-14, version 8.2.240*

If you’re visiting Halifax and want to take the bus, this app is perfect! Easy to use and works seamlessly on the bus. Payment via apple pay keeps CC info secure. Would be nice to have bus schedules but I was able to use Apple Maps and Google Maps for that.

### 4/5 — New Update Gripes

*2026-06-03, version 8.2.240*

The new update makes a lot of needed UI changes, and that’s appreciated. As well, this is the first time that the Apple Pay option has actually worked.

However, a pop-up warning me about low funds isn’t useful as I do not use the wallet feature, and never will. (Maybe create a setting to enable wallet funds reminders if it is helpful for others)

Finally, a feedback button would be great for issues like this.

### 4/5 — Suggestion

*2026-05-09, version 7.8.36*

An Apple Watch version of the app would be nice, if you have the app on your phone.

### 4/5 — Decent App

*2025-05-05, version 7.8.22*

The app is pretty decent, does what it's supposed. Only one small issue I've noticed in months of using; it would be great if you could mask the displayed input in the Security Code field on the payment screen. For privacy sake. I imagine I'm not the only one that ends buying passes in public spaces.

### 4/5 — Incorrect information about ticket validity

*2024-03-09, version 7.8.16*

When you on Single Ride ticket information, it says that the ticket is valid for one ride while in fact the ticket is valid for 150 minutes. Please, change the description accordingly to avoid frustration

### 4/5 — We needed this

*2024-01-08, version 7.8.16*

App works well I don’t know why people are complaining over the look of it, it makes life a lot easier I’m thankful for it.

### 3/5 — Good and bad

*2026-06-10, version 8.2.240*

I want to know how many passes I have without counting. Bring that feature back please.
Ticket functions work well. I never have problems
