Hidden World benefits from the forethought that went into making the puzzles fit in with the story, which the developers seem to get better at with each release. The puzzles themselves are at a medium level of difficulty; just hard enough to make you think, but far from exasperating. I also appreciate how the developers spent time creating clever, organic puzzles that avoid employing the lazy tropes (slider puzzles, combination lock puzzles, tiny hidden objects, finding/using items that make no sense in the story/environment) that many of the games in the genre fall back on. This game, like all of Fire Maple’s games, is a welcome relief from the gloomy, creepy settings and atmosphere in most of the games in this genre. The music is pleasant and the visuals are colorful, which makes for a stress-free, family-friendly, puzzle-solving experience. The journal and the map are useful features, as well. Overall, this is a nice, calm way to spend a few hours, and scratch that puzzling itch. It doesn’t quite measure up to the Room and House of DaVinci games, but it’s a decent approximation. ### 3/5 — BELLS *2019-11-27, version 1.0.9* I can’t get the bells to open the wall. The puzzles are challenging but fun. They will leave. You thinking about it long after you turn the game off (I have woken up from sleep after finally working out a puzzle)! Very few escape/adventure type games are as fun and exciting as these ones. Worth the money! ### 4/5 — Decent little game *2018-12-31, version 1.0.8* Only took a few hours to complete, but as soon as I managed to get it for free I can hardly complain. Puzzles are modestly difficult and hence pitched just about right. Graphics are fairly basic, but that doesn’t detract from the game itself. I see many parallels between the production of this game and what Syntaxity Inc produce. Perhaps they are someway intertwined? If you like. And click games, and I can’t think of any reason why you wouldn’t like this one. Would have been happy to pay a small amount for it. The art and music are beautiful, and the puzzles are fun. But it will no longer open. I have deleted and reinstalled and it still doesn’t work. At all. When I open the app it remains a black screen. Sucks to pay for a game that you can’t play. I would give 5 stars if I could actually open the app and play. ### 1/5 — Bug! *2022-11-11, version 1.0.10* I love this game series and played through the original Grisley Manor and lost city but there is a bug with the piano puzzle in this game. When you go to enter the third puzzle combination on the piano the game will freeze and you are unable to play any further. Upon restarting the game the puzzle shows I’ve completed two piano combinations but will not show the third combination anymore. When I try to enter the third combination again (I memorized the sequence) it will not let me complete it! But it was just way too short. I just found Fire Maple Games and have played all but Thimbly Creek. The game play is consistent but the length is all over the place. Grisly Manor and this one could be played in a couple of hours. Return to GM and Lost City went on and on. They need some kind of standard about how long their games are going to be IMO. Enjoyed playing it tho. In the bell puzzle, I have tried again and again to use the hint system and solve the bell puzzle but the puzzle won’t unlock.
