### 2/5 — Disappointing experience

*2026-08-28, version 26.82*

I wanted this to be a modern, simple, intuitive way to plan for outings in the wild.

Instead I found the app to be slow, difficult to use, with poor onboarding and connectivity issues.

And the help wasn’t great once I’d got it working …

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2026-08-22*

A subscription pay app that leaves you disappointed.
Many vital informations are missing or hard to find eg water sources camping spots and mountain huts you can sleep in.
The final straw for me was hiking GR 54 and its route is simply incorrect. It just isn’t following the GR route.
I’ve had worse apps don’t gets 2 not 1 star for that.

Try organic maps for a better experience.

### 4/5 — Just one complaint

*2026-08-03, version 26.74*

Just stop it from sharing old links to the live tracking please 🙏

### 3/5 — Confusing

*2026-07-25*

The app is OK, it is a mapping app and the maps work. I find it slow, not intuitive, difficult to navigate the screens and you end up wondering how you get back to the screen you left. I had the OS map system before but the cost went up so I decided to change. Maybe it’s the change I don’t like? I can’t find a map legend so I can’t see if the route is a footpath etc. I have not been on a hike with it yet - maybe that’s where it will impress me. Up to now though, it’s not great.

**Developer response:** Hey! Paul here. Yeah there is always a bit of a transition phase. If there is anything I can help you get up to speed with or any quirks I can help with pop me a message. Happy to jump on a call if you like as well. paul@hiiker.com

### 2/5 — It’s not all it’s cracked up to be

*2026-07-23*

I have been sat on the fence about this app for some years now. Waiting for it to develop. It was clear to me that the developer wanted to make a genuinely good app. Being a fan of Harveys maps I was excited to see them as part of this app. I checked back in to see how this app was shaping and I kept reading good things. Annoyed by the constant price increases from Komoot, Outdoor Active and OS I was happy to take the punt in the recent sale and pay £15 for a years subscription to Hiker. I was immediately impressed with various aspects of the app.
That was until I tried to plan an activity. This was actually a local mostly road ride. I first tried to import a GPX file from another app. This loaded but on the Hiker map it put lines where lines shouldn’t be. It looped back on its self extending my original route recorded on the other app. I gave up and removed the file. I then manually plotted the route. This was fine at the start then for some odd reason kept snapping lines where they shouldn’t be. It also wouldn’t allow me to add an extension to my return near to my house no matter how hard I tried or what input change I made. I have immediately lost trust in this app and feel like I’ve waster my money. There’s a reason the big boys charge what they do. However bitter that pill is to swallow. For now I cant recommend this app but I hope at some point that changes. Because I want to see this become a success.

### 4/5 — Complicated but excellent value

*2026-07-12*

The app gets better and better with each new version. The latest version has a direction heading arrow which is easy to see, and also has distance markers along tracks. Both excellent improvements over the previous version. The premium topo maps are excellent both in terms of the range of countries covered, and in terms of value for money. They are also extremely high resolution. The downsides of the app are that it takes a long time to get the hang of route planning and of importing GPX files to follow while you’re hiking. The user interface could be improved but at the moment I’d say it’s probably the best mapping app currently available for IOS.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much. Greatly appreciated. From Paul and the HiiKER team. paul@hiiker.com

### 5/5 — Fantastic app with some great support

*2026-06-16, version 26.63*

I’ve been using HiiKER for over a year now, and can honestly say that it is fantastic. The support from the HiiKER guys is first rate and the app just keeps getting better and better with each update. Used it a lot for planning routes and whilst out hiking in the Lake District. Can thoroughly recommend.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2026-06-15, version 26.63*

Used Hiiker for a Scafell hike recently and was thoroughly impressed! Would definitely recommend it!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-06-07, version 26.62*

Lots of features especially if you’re planning your own hike whether it be a short hike or a multi-week thru hike. Also great support from the developers who promptly answer questions and respond to feedback to improve the app.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-06-06*

Have had the app for a couple of months now, and it is by far the best l have used. You have access to various different types of maps, the maps in 3D add another dimension. I am a total Luddite and I can use it. A few teething problems to start with ( my mistakes) but the team behind HiiKER got it sorted and are always on hand to help👍. Game changer in route planning. Buy it you won’t regret it😀

**Developer response:** Thanks so much!! Greatly appreciated! From Paul and the HiiKER team. Anything I can do to help paul@hiiker.com

### 5/5 — Great support

*2026-06-04*

Just two days in, problems with download of my own making were quickly resolved by friendly on line assistance. Running HiiKER and OS alongside at moment and really impressed by HiiKER, seems better all round and with intuitive layout.
After 15 months use, HiiKER just gets better and better by becoming easier to use and providing the tremendous detail and facilities to be layered in a way that prevents them from overwhelming the user . Very pleased.

### 5/5 — Best Hiking App

*2026-06-04, version 26.61*

This is the best hiking app. I have used it in the UK and on a recent holiday to Poland. The maps, the info, the offline support the mapping the full end to end product is amazing. There a features I didn’t even know existed and the online webinars on YouTube really highlight and functions of this app. 5* is not enough for this app! Great work team!

### 5/5 — The best app for maps

*2026-06-03*

I used and liked Viewranger and the access that gave me to OS maps. But then they were acquired by Outdooractive and while my access to OS maps migrated I never grew to like the interface and functionality as much. Then I discovered Hiiker. The UI is great. Not only does the Pro version give me OS maps (and National equivalents internationally) but also Harvey maps. Hiiker include lots of additional information which can be accessed via the menus or as overlays. Hiiker: simply the best app for maps.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much!! Greatly appreciated! From Paul and the HiiKER team. Anything I can do to help paul@hiiker.com

### 5/5 — Phenomenal customer support

*2026-06-03*

Not only is this app very powerful and well priced, the customer support truly is phenomenal and probably second to none. I just participated in a free 60 minute webinar for new users and the level of enthusiasm and support is unrivalled. The personable level of support is a game changer. This is not a faceless company but one you can reach out to and feel part of a community. Well done e indeed.

### 5/5 — Great app that keeps getting better

*2026-06-03, version 26.61*

Seems to have so many features compared to others. The 2 guys have done some very useful how to videos.

### 4/5 — Great app!

*2026-05-29*

I love this app, the only note o have is to add the ability to combine recordings. I have a couple hikes where I paused the recording to take a break and accidentally stopped the recording lol. Everything else about the app is perfect, I just have some recordings I need to add together :)

### 2/5 — Customer Support

*2026-05-23*

Extremely poor support. Never reply to a chat within the published 2 minutes and to date have never answered an email. Software is still in its infancy after 6 plus years. Some good features but lags well behind competitors

**Developer response:** Hi there! Sorry to here we missed you, not sure how that might have happened. Feel free to reach out to me directly at pete@hiiker.com, I can help directly.

### 4/5 — Mostly Great

*2026-05-11*

Mostly great! Been using this app for a few years now. Has kept us on the right trail more than once. Trail mapping and trail preview are outstanding. My only issues. 1. Why, why, why, no elevation profile when I map a hike?? That should be automatic, across the bottom of every map. 2. Still a little too euro centric for American hikers but seems to be getting better.

**Developer response:** Hi there! Appreciate the feedback.

The elevation should be present on each and every hike at the bottom of the page, not sure why you might not be seeing it! Could you reach out to me at pete@hiiker.com and I'll help resolve things.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Fraud

*2026-05-13, version 26.52*

First of all there are far better apps out there that don’t get you lost.
Secondly despite having cancelled my subscription and the app they still took out a years subscription without informing me they were going to do so which suggest to me they are not a decent company.

Edit in reply to response.
A decent bonefide company would have sent a reminder before they took money the subscription.

### 1/5 — The icon doesn’t work

*2026-05-09, version 26.52*

What should’ve been a simple 10mile hike, estimated at around 4.5hrs long has turned into a 6hr hike up freaking mountains and the likes which I have yet to even complete because your icon keeps leading me on a wild goose chase, I’m now exhausted amd still have nearly another 3 miles to go which going of my current pace because of its bullcrap it going to take me another 3, very peeved right now and after I heard such good things

### 1/5 — Autorenewal with no warning

*2026-04-11, version 26.41*

I have just been charged £29.99 for a renewal with no prior communication. My previous subscription was £14.99. I don’t use the app so feel cheated.

### 1/5 — RIP off

*2026-03-30, version 26.35*

Very poor app, I think it’s the worst I’ve tried. Caught me in the free trial with a subscription and now has auto renewed at double the price without warning. So many better trail apps. Avoid this one

### 1/5 — Avoid

*2026-03-30, version 26.3.4*

Incorrectly charged my account and is a nightmare trying to get refunded. I have never encountered such poor communication from a company. The app doesn’t have a lot of trails either, signed up to it for a Norway trip and there wasn’t a single trail in the entire country.

### 1/5 — Auto renewed with no warning

*2026-03-01, version 26.2.12*

The Hiiker app is fine but I didn't use it much and didn't intend to renew. When I signed up, the welcome email didn’t say the subscription would auto-renew. No warning before the charge; no notification afterwards; and almost three times the cost. Contacted them and got an automated acknowledgment but no reply after a week.

### 1/5 — Awkward app

*2026-02-19*

Just started using it, and finding it awkward. For example while checking one of the daily routes on our hike, the map jumped from a top view to a low angle view, and I cannot find how to switch back. When I close a daily route, the app goes back a few screens/pages rather than back to the previous screen with the list of daily routes.
Next frustration: I’m required to choose a nickname for this review. Five different tries are “already taken”.

**Developer response:** HI there! Sorry to hear you aren't having a great experience. I suspect these are all things that are easily fixed.

- The pitched angle, you be in 3D mode, you can switch this off by tapping the maps button and toggling 3D off. Or of course just change the pitch by swiping up or down with 2 fingers on the map!

- Pressing the back button on a hike overview map will not bring up the days list, you need to tap the yellow day selector box to bring back up the day list, it's dynamic in that way.

- Not sure what you mean by nickname on review. Might need to complain to Apple about that?

Regardless, there's a big "Chat with Support" button on the homepage of the app, more than happy to answer any questions there! We won't put you through to a bot, instead you will reach us directly. Any time of day. Always around to assist!

### 1/5 — Sign up

*2025-09-29*

Impossible to sign up due to user name loop that recommends a user name but then won’t accept it. Obviously designed by an IT creep not for use by humans

**Developer response:** Hi! Paul here. Really sorry but I missed this review. Genuinely not the case. I am a hiker myself, though I am a software engineer as well. Happy to jump on a call to help work through any issues paul@hiiker.com

### 1/5 — So disappointed. Consistently wrong

*2025-09-20, version 25.9.3*

I’ve given this app so many opportunities. It has consistently let me down and sends you down wrong paths and routes even when you upload a GPS map to it. Waste of money as I bought premium.

### 1/5 — App kept freezing!

*2025-09-16, version 25.8.4*

Thought I’d give it a try and after it froze for a third time while exploring from my sofa decided could not trust this while out on the fells. Shame.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fantastic App, highly recommended

*2026-08-31*

What a fantastic app for walking and hiking, Easy to use with so much detail. Lots of different options for maps and the additional information that can be added with overlays, community walks, POI’s etc is great. I’ll certainly be renewing my subscription every year. Loving the webinars from Pete and Paul, keep up the great work.

### 5/5 — Amazing and easy to use.

*2026-08-28, version 26.81*

I love this app. I use it for day walks and multi day. I even use it to just look at areas I’m trying to research. Plus the customer service function is amazing and the guys are always so helpful. Best mapping app I’ve ever used.

### 5/5 — Die App ist gut

*2026-08-24*

### 5/5 — I get so much use out of this

*2026-08-23, version 26.81*

I had the OS app in the past and cancelled it after year one.
I was reluctant to pay for another but when hiker offered a reduced price offer I took it up.
It’s has proved very valuable and one I will renew.
It is easy to use. Create routes is easy. The range of maps is extensive, both the layers in one place and also the geographic spread.
I have used it extensively in Uk and Portugal.
Being able to save and share routes easily is very helpful.
All in all this is one font best apps I’ve used.

### 5/5 — Best app for exploring everywhere

*2026-07-23, version 26.73*

The app is brilliant. Well thought out and constantly updated as a result of user feedback. I messaged at 9.45pm and I got a reply from the ceo. Listened to my suggestion and then implemented it.
The webinars are worth a watch, so many features. From phone masts to LiDAR to audio descriptions.
Just get it. Thanks guys

### 5/5 — Great App exceptional customer support

*2026-07-22, version 26.73*

Great app. Supports all devices needed (Desktop, iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad) offline maps are great the option to have historical maps is also a superb feature.

### 5/5 — Great find

*2026-07-15, version 26.72*

This app let me discover a new beautiful part that I was unaware of where I could walk

### 5/5 — Way better than the competitor

*2026-06-28*

Just switched over from OS app to HiiKER and wish I had discovered it years ago. I agree with other reviewers about the interface, super-quick support and Harvey maps. I also love that you can use miles for distance and metres for ascent at the same time. Also the hike lists for organising your walks and the multi-day hikes feature. OS subscription now cancelled!

**Developer response:** Thanks so much. Greatly appreciated! From Paul and the HiiKER team. paul@hiiker.com

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2026-06-24, version 26.65*

An App which provides access internationally to excellent national mapping as we travel internationally for all of our needs. Precise and detailed maps for route planning , whether walking, cycling or driving, it is a resource to turn to. Invaluable.

### 5/5 — Best hiking App

*2026-06-23*

Been using the app for a few years now, and have used it for multiple hikes from day hikes to long distance with the most recent having completed the Cape Wrath trail last year.

While I don’t really use the navigation record functionality I particularly like the ease of use, Topographic maps and the ability to plan all this at what I believe is the best navigation app for the price in its range. Can’t recommend this app enough. Would like to see in future versions a navigation page with info displayed distance, ETA, Time, Distance remaining, elevation loss/gain etc which could be customised for individual use.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much Andy!! Greatly appreciated! From Paul and the HiiKER team. paul@hiiker.com
