The animations, the names of the unique woffs, the original designs! Though as many other reviews will say, it doesn’t give you a lot of time on certain things like plants. Well I’ve been able to mostly manage that, honestly my biggest grievance is the lack of dialogue variety, I’d love to have more than three chat varieties with elves, vittra, and nisse! As for the ads, I’d love for the chance to buy the ad free version, though every time I try to open up the purchases I’ll be told to check my internet connection and try again, regardless of internet status. Besides this the game is a nice little relaxing thing for Hilda fans!! ### 4/5 — Unable to pay? *2022-11-27, version 1.9.3* So far this game seems adorable! My daughter and I enjoy playing it together. The creatures are all adorable, and it’s a blast for any fans of the show or books. The ads do pop up quite a lot, so I wouldn’t recommend this for younger kids. I am wondering if the developers have limited some functionality or perhaps have gone out of business. I was given the opportunity to pay to avoid ads (yay!), but when I tried to tap it, it wouldn’t leave the app. When I tap the plus sign by the acorns, it tells me I am not connected to the internet (and I definitely am). And when I try to follow links to the developer’s site, nothing comes up. I would happily pay to avoids ads, if given the chance again! I hope they fix this. ### 4/5 — Could use some improvements, but overall captures the spirit of Hilda well! *2022-01-01, version 1.9.3* It became clear while playing this game, that the developers have the upmost love for Hilda and her adventurous world through interacting with the creatures that came by both from the show and ones created exclusively for this game. I do however find that any conversations which I initiate with the creatures that come by to be rather lackluster, oftentimes there’s only one response to give or if there’s multiple questions I can only ask one before it follows up with “Goodbye!” as the only option rather than allowing me to ask the other. It would be a nice addition if I could have more meaningful conversations with the creatures that visit by having more options available, the resulting friendship level being based on what responses I chose. I would also like if I could subtly interact with them after the fact, for example reacting to me tapping them or even being able to gift items in my backpack for them to keep. ### 4/5 — Great!(ad placement could be better) *2021-12-03, version 1.9.3* I love the game. Sometimes I’ll get off it for a couple weeks but I always come back eventually. However I have one big problem with it. I don’t mind ads. I know it’s how developers make their money. But I’ve noticed that if I’m in a place collecting acorns from somebody and I get an ad right after, any other characters disappear from the area and I completely miss out on the acorns because it doesn’t auto collect them like it does when you’re not in game. So it would be really nice if you got the ads like between maps. Or after you’ve talked to everyone. Even better maybe offer an ad-free option. I would pay for it. Other than that though. Great game. Hope one we’ll get some more content ### 4/5 — It’s really fun but ... *2021-01-12, version 1.9.3* So I downloaded the game a couple of weeks ago and I fell in love with it but now I have all of the locations, most of the creatures, and a bunch of acorns, now the game is starting to get boring and I really don’t want to stop playing, I think it’s fun but fun there is definitely a lot that could be added, season two just came out so you could add in some more of the creatures or other activities, maybe another game to play besides dragon panic, and possibly some new locations, and maybe a way to trade already obtained items for acorns. I really love this game and I hope that another update is coming for season two. Keep up the good work! ### 4/5 — Incredible attention to detail *2019-07-22, version 1.8* I’m a big fan of the show. The small details in the design of this game are fantastic. The changing ribbons for each level. Different movements for each type of creature. Unique facial expressions. Little animations for every action. And of course the huge variety of adorable creatures. I’ve been playing non stop for almost 2 weeks. I’m on level 50. I haven’t spent any money yet. But if I didn’t have tons of free time to constantly play, it would get old fast. Best kind of game I could ask for while still being free. I only wish there was more clarity on how the likes and dislikes work. I’d love to be able to know how to attract specific creatures based on how i move items around. Thank you to everyone who helped make this game. It’s been such a joy to play :) ### 4/5 — Love the game overall, but *2019-05-03, version 1.7.1* The tv show is adorable, my whole family loves it. I got the game to play with my kids and in general we think it’s really cute. However they got pretty bored with it after a while. It’s set up so that you have to go back and play every so often throughout the day. Otherwise the food runs out or the plants die. Replacing plants gets expensive, and the watering is pretty frequent. Without them though, you don’t attract the little creatures. Frequently they die or the food runs out while we are asleep. We also miss a lot of creatures by sleeping. Also, the creatures say the same things so often that the kids grew tired of it. It seems they just did an update that has added some variety of play and my kids are interested again. Getting the little bits and bobs and curious as to what they’re for has peaked their curiosity. Overall a very sweet little game, however the time constraints are frustrating. I don’t want the kids to have to play every hour or two to keep things going. I wish watering and feeding was once daily. ### 4/5 — Suggestions *2019-03-15, version 1.6.0* I like the game so far. It’s true to the show, great design, cute concept. Very addicting, I’m always checking to see if somebody has arrived. First and foremost, I’d really like to see more dialogue options. The 1 or 2 that are repeatedly available are great at first but after a few times get rather tired. Also, more plant & food options would be nice. One of my favorite parts is the card game because it actually requires some thought, and it can be kind of tricky. However, I REALLY think it’d be great if it were available more often than every 24 hours, maybe 2 or 3 times a day. Or instead of setting it up on a timer, maybe after every 25 creatures met and fed/pet... or something. :) ### 4/5 — I love this app, but there are a few issues *2019-02-12, version 1.4.2* I love hilda, one of the great cartoons, alongside gravity falls and otgw in my opinion. Good for kids and adults, no matter what The app gives me an opportunity to have small slices of the show in every day life, no matter what, and I love that the app doesn’t require internet I’ve been having severe crashing issues over the past few weeks, and it seems to be from the expanding map, and I understand it’s a new app and you guys need time to work out all the bugs, but sometimes it’ll crash after exiting each interaction and delete the progress in friendship for that interaction, which is kind of annoying Nothing has been a deal breaker, I would like a bit more variety with interactions, (petting birds, feeding woffs) but everything is consistent and true to the show and I love it. One of my favorite things about the graphics of the show is the primary color palate, and it’s consistant in the game Thank you for putting so much craftsmanship into this project, I appreciate it, and I want to see this app and show grow together :) ### 4/5 — This game is AWESOME *2019-01-19, version 1.3.1* So when I first got this game I was so excited because a love the new Netflix show Hilda I love that you get to meet and feed the creatures and befriend them, and the adds are also kid friendly to. But i wish you didn’t have to wait that long for a animal to come but still great game, I’d also like it if you could explore the land of “Hilda’s old house” more. But anyway I would say this game is the best! So far just needs some things to it that’s all. Oh and also could you make it where it could tell you were to find the animal at well some of them okey byeeee ### 4/5 — Simple yet fun *2019-01-10, version 1.3.0* I hadn’t had any issues with crashing until this last update (Jan 10). And now I can’t even open it. I’m sure they will fix it soon enough though. As for my experience so far; I am at the max level (level 50), I have met all but 3 or 4 of the available creatures, I’ve opened all the levels (with the exception of the most recent one), and I’ve collected nearly 150,000 reguLar acorns. That being said I have a few suggestions. I wish there was a way to exchange a large amount of regular acorns for some golden ones or a way to purchase golden acorn items for with regular acorns (maybe at a larger markup to balance things out). I also think it would be nice if items indicated which category of creatures they attract (friends, elves, animals, etc.). It would also be fun to have a larger variety of food items. For a while there I was given a challenge by the Woodman to reach a 50% friendship level with a troll but I saw based on other review responses that it’s a glitch and that you should delete that challenge. I think it would be cool to add adults to the character lineup in addition to Hilda’s close friends (her mother, teachers, and the weather scientist possibly). I think it would also be cool to include the ghost teenagers too. Other than that I think this game is really fun and has a lot of potential. I love the art style. ### 3/5 — Great game, poor execution. *2019-01-03, version 1.2.0* It’s really very repetitive. Doesn’t have much substance to it, and the mechanics are really just strange. I feel like having to leave the app is just a little excessive. The game is cute, and I loved the show and thought this would be a great way to build on my interest with the “hilda universe” or whatever it could be called. But this game seems like it was churned out as fast as it could to make money. And it crashes constantly with no warning. I hope this problem with the app closing is fixed in a next update or else I'd have to delete the app. Wouldn’t hurt too much deleting it anyways because the game is kind of dull. ### 4/5 — Love it but crashes a lot *2019-01-01, version 1.2.0* This is currently my favorite app to have, Hilda is my favorite show and my favorite comic it’s so creative and as a person who grew up at the base of a mountain exploring it and playing it hits home. The problems with this app are mainly that almost every time it’s open it crashes when I switch screens to different locations or different creatures which is incredibly annoying and I have to repeat the action that caused it to crash, also the dialogue for the characters isn’t varied much so it’s a bit repetitive which is fine but could be better(not a huge thing!). If there’s anyway to help decrease the crashing then this app would be even better(but it’s already amazing anyway) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Wonderful game, but ads for kids is unacceptable *2018-10-26, version 1.0.0* My kids love this show, and so do we as parents. I was really excited to see this game and downloaded it instantly. I love the idea behind it, the artwork and how it keeps true to the show. What I cannot stand is the practice of subjecting children to ads, especially with this much frequency. I would have at least given it 4 stars if there was a way in which I could pay to disable the ads. Sure it’s optional but the “No thanks” is very muted and obscure to children not to mention they are of course going to do it to get the acorns. I don’t mind to let ads run sometimes for my apps because I’ll just divert my attention elsewhere but most of the time I either get frustrated because of it or pay to disable them. I just feel like this is a deplorable practice especially for an app that’s obviously targeted to children. Fix that and I’ll amend my review score. ### 2/5 — Like a Tomogatchi, needs constant attention *2021-03-19, version 1.9.3* I got this game for my daughter and we were very excited to play it together. But it’s not really a game. It’s like a world you have to constantly upkeep and check on. If you “buy” a plant with your acorn money, and then turn off the game, have dinner, and go to bed, the plant is dead by morning. When were we supposed to be watering it? In our sleep? Also, we constantly miss the visits from creatures because they come in the middle of the night sometimes too. Today, the alert said we missed one, 8 hours ago. That means it came at 2am. I don’t understand. We love the show and wanted to love the game. But it’s a waste of time unless you can commit to checking it constantly. Also, the music is so repetitive and annoying and the creatures, when you do catch them, do nothing. You just take a picture of them, pet them, and they leave. My daughter is super disappointed. ### 2/5 — I really like it but... *2021-02-05, version 1.9.3* I really like the game and I really love all the creatures but I’ve had a couple huge issues. 1) Sometimes I don’t get the notifications for it so when I get cool creatures like when the obelisk troll showed for the first time but I completely missed it because I wasn’t notified. 2) The “one time offer” for ads. At the very beginning of the game I got the one time offer for ad free play but at the very beginning I’m not sure if I’m even gonna keep the game much less spend money on it and now I can’t find anywhere to find that option.(If anyone knows where this option is then please let me know) 3) a lot of the dialogue in the game is very unoriginal and are just pulled straight out of the show and are word for word just lines from the show. 4) the ads(again). It’s gotten to the point that ads won end and will just stay frozen no matter how long I wait causing me to miss out so in so much So I really like this game but with all these problems especially the last one it’s gotten unplayable ### 2/5 — Looked fun *2018-11-08, version 1.0.1* I removed an item in the beginning because I assumed I could place it again in a different spot, after googling for a while I can’t figure out or find any way to place items. Clicking them in the back pack does nothing so now I can no longer progress in the game. I spent more time frustrated about this game than actually playing it. Don’t have a game where it’s whole purpose is to purchase decorations, and then not let me place them other than right when you purchase it, that’s ridiculous and now I can’t play. This is the sort of thing that should be ironed out in testing, please don’t support this sort of lazy design. What’s suppose to be a laid back idle game will just frustrate you with its lack of control. It’s a decoration game, where you can’t place the decorations. Don’t waste your time. ### 2/5 — I agree with the first review *2018-10-27, version 1.0.0* The show was great and I was excited about this game. My main issue is the crashing. I never have apps open in the background and I have plenty of space on my device. I even have a strong WiFi signal. The game crashes constantly. Every time I open the app it crashes right away and then I have to go back into it. It also crashes any time I click to do a video for the prize or the double acorns. It’s only been like two days and I want to give it a chance but it’s disappointing trying to get extra acorns to unlock new areas and the game crashes every time. I could honestly deal better with a game running slow then how frustrating it is when a game crashes as much as this one does. ### 3/5 — Love Hilda - hate ads for kids! *2021-04-20, version 1.9.3* We LOVE Hilda and our son especially does. This game lets him collect the creatures from the show and vaguely teaches him about patience because he has to wait to see what shows up. He doesn’t have unlimited access to the ipad so we have a lot of dead plants but he takes it in stride and I think it’s overall helpful. I’m really disturbed that even with a 0-4 year old age setting, you cannot play the game without ads. At this impressionable age, our son can NOT tell the difference between the game and the ad, as much as we try to explain. He wants to play every game or go to every app that pops up and they are not all appropriate for him. I would SO happily pay to remove all the ads from this game so he can just play it without our supervision. Even with all the parental settings I can turn on his ipad, the ads on this game come up, but he is limited from buying anything. Please please please find a way to make this game more child-friendly! Thanks. ### 3/5 — Nice game, needs a pause. *2020-06-30, version 1.9.3* My kids love this game. The art is fun, they like the creatures. But they are also getting bored with the creatures always saying the same lines. The other issue is that they don’t get time on the table every day and they are so disappointed when they get back on and all their plants are dead. The game would benefit from a pause option where game time did not pass- no creatures came, no plant time passed, no acquisition of acorns from creatures coming and going...just a blank gap. It would make it a lot easier for them to pause the app until a little before they had their screen time and then pause it at the end of the day as well. While it is a lovely game and they have had fun with it, these two things, particularly the need for a pause, would improve the experience for them. ### 3/5 — What’s the point? *2019-09-08, version 1.8* I was really excited for a Hilda game. Games like this one though shouldn’t even be called games. You plant objects and then shut the game off and come back later. So far it has failed to send me any notifications telling me when things arrive even though notifications are turned on. I made sure of it. It’s cute and I do like it but what’s the frikkin point? Play for 5 minutes than ignore for an hour. That’s really dumb. Games are supposed to entertain. Also I’d like to add that anytime I click to watch a bonus ad for an extra reward I get an ad but no reward. ### 3/5 — Fix the CRASHING *2019-01-17, version 1.3.1* *** UPDATE *** As of the recent update, the app is now functional again. All my plants were dead, as a week had passed and I was unable to water them, and I lost my Christmas tree. I assume I’ll never get it back until Christmas comes around again. Other than that, the app is pretty much same old same old. It did crash once (so far) and kick me out, which was an old problem, but it’s back to being playable. I want to the crashing to be a rare problem. I assume this is made under a small studio, but I expect an app with very simple gameplay to crash less than something more complex like the Spider-man infinite runner. —— **This issue has now been fixed** The recent update has made the crashing WORSE. I can barely open the game before it all crashes and I’m kicked out. —— *OLD* The crashing issue seems to be a common problem. It’s very annoying and needs to be fixed ASAP. The farther along in the game I get, the more often it crashes. Other than that, I love meeting the new creatures, items, and areas. I hope they add more areas, creatures, and items as the show progresses. Hilda’s home, school, and the dragon’s garden would be some cool additions for the future. ### 3/5 — Good game, but... *2019-01-10, version 1.3.0* I really enjoyed this show, and have been enjoying the game as well up till recently, when I have suddenly had to deal with repeated game crashes. It happens almost every time I interact with a creature, as well as every single time I attempt to access one of the trollberg locations. It is very aggravating, and continues to happen even after updating the game. I, too, have had the same problems as a previous viewer with the lack of variety in creature responses, and have multiples of every offering from the sparrow scouts. Also, there is an issue with the woodman’s goals. I have had the same goals for weeks to a. meet a certain character and 2. reach a certain level of friendship with that character, but said character NEVER appears. Again, very frustrating. I am glad to see you added a new location, but as I cannot access it without the game crashing, it does me no good. Thanks for your time, I hope all these things can be fixed. Edit: Since writing this yesterday, my game is completely broken. I recommend for new and old fans of the show! I love it and it’s adorable! It’s also very quick to download and the game is very simple. Edit: you have to watch ads to get acorns sometimes but the amount of acorns you get is not worth the 15 second ads. But that’s the only downside to the game. The show has so much potential and I would hate for it to go too waste. The writers of this, you guys really have something special. I’m only a 15 year old boy writing on an apple review lol so I’m sure this won’t get any attention but It was the only way I could possibly get ahold of the creators. I have really bad depression and this show was like a light that helped me fight off the darkness. I felt like I could connect with hilda being the outcast trying to fit in. ### 5/5 — The best game I’ve ever played *2019-07-27, version 1.8* This game makes you feel like you’re in the TV show, i love the tv show SOOO MUCH, I can’t stop watching, it’s the same for the game, I can’t STOP PLAYING!!!! It’s a good way to pass time while you’re waiting in line or walking to the park. The only thing I can complain about is probably the limited amount of characters, I would like some more characters to meet and maybe some parents like Hilda’s mum or David and Frida’s family. Also being able to “interact” with my favorite creatures is really cool!! The only thing I had an issue with was the beginning. It kept notifying me of a creature but when I pressed the notification there was nothing there. On the third time though, I waited for a moment before pressing it and went into the app on my own and I had a Woff!! Then after that the features at the bottom of the screen started to work, too. Once you get the first creature the whole game works itself out. One quick note as well, to pet a creature you move your finger back and forth on the creature and then it counts as a pet(this took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out). But yeah, the game is splendid and I can definitely see young children enjoying it!!! ### 5/5 — A cute and relaxing game *2019-07-07, version 1.7.1* This is a calming and cute game. The illustrations are lovely and interesting and reflect the ambiance of the show. I would love to see more personalized dialogue options for the various creatures and guests , maybe even lore on their species. I would also like to play the dragon cards more than once a day if I lose , it’s very fun and creative. I’ve been having issues with ads loading sometimes when I try to view them for bonus gifts. It seems to be the same ad whenever this happens. I believe it’s an HP computer ad. The screen goes black while sound plays and I’m unable to exit the ad and return to the app. ### 5/5 — super cute & fun *2019-02-02, version 1.4.2* One of the most fun and interactive idle games I’ve played so far! The art is gorgeous & there are a ton of different creatures and areas to unlock. I loved Hilda and this is filling the void until the next season comes out ✨ Minor criticisms: I think plants die too fast. The 15 acorn watering option says it lasts for 12 hours, but it doesn’t feel like that’s actually the case. Some days I’ve watered my plants before going to sleep, then woken up (definitely less than 12 hours later) to dead plants :( There’s also no way to sort items in the shop by price & no indication of whether you’ve bought the item before, which would be really helpful. Bugs: Since the lunar new year update I’ve had a bug where opening the camera brings up the creature’s dialogue/action UI at the same time. It doesn’t show up in the pictures you take, but it happens every time I bring up the camera. ### 5/5 — Adorable Collection Game *2019-01-17, version 1.3.1* This game is cute, and actually encouraged me to watch the animations on Netflix. I just love the art style and originality of this series. This is the first bait and collect game I’ve gotten in a long time, and I feel it does a good job at it’s own twist on the genre. My only complaint is how often the game crashes for me, but I’m sure it’ll be fixed in due time.
