Reports of abuse—whether slipped into table names, display pictures, or user handles—are consistently ignored. At this point, many of us suspect moderation is being handled by an AI still in beta testing, one that has been carefully trained in the skill of selective blindness. Their rival, HT, provides a refreshing contrast. Over there, complaints are acknowledged, taken seriously, and acted upon with real consequences: bad actors receive permanent bans, not gentle reminders to “be nice.” Imagine that—an app where rules actually mean something. Trying to find a beginner teacher here is an exercise in futility. The majority expect you to know the language already, which defeats the purpose. If I were already fluent, I’d hardly be on a language app—unless the app’s hidden purpose is to teach humility through frustration. Meanwhile, the community guidelines appear more ornamental than operational. Users are recorded without their knowledge or consent, only to have those recordings played at other tables or uploaded to YouTube. One persistent offender has been reported multiple times, yet continues unimpeded. Apparently, repeat violations are a ticket to VIP status. As for bug reports, submitting one is like sending a postcard into the Bermuda Triangle: it disappears without ever reaching the intended destination. Rumors of the app’s imminent demise circulate constantly. I don’t subscribe to them, but it is not my responsibility to provide crisis counseling every time someone panics. Surely the company could spare five minutes to issue a clear, platform-wide message refuting these rumors. Better yet, they might even address the source and instruct them to stop peddling misinformation. And finally: if users are not welcome at company meetings, perhaps just say so directly. No elaborate charades are necessary. HT, for instance, holds theirs in English, recognizing that English-speaking users are disproportionately the ones funding their platform. Each time I try to speak on my table the app will close itself in like two minutes. And mostly when we update the app it’s gonna be a lot of glitches ### 1/5 — I regret to pay money on this app *2025-05-10, version 12.14.3* I paid a yearly subscription because I’ve been using this app a lot then they decided to permanently banned my account because of someone send them a fake screenshot about me I told them I didn’t say these things they didn’t believe me I had many followers and I suddenly lost everything because of the stupid hilokal support I told my friends who were in witnesses when someone fake the screenshot to tell the support that I didn’t do these things but they didn’t listen then I knew it if they want to do something they don’t need evidence they can do what ever they want so the one who want to download this app don’t waste your time on this app there is better apps such as hello talk and most importantly don’t pay any dollar you will lose everything suddenly thanks god I didn’t put money in the hilokal wallet otherwise I will regret more ### 1/5 — The target suspension of Muslim users! *2025-05-06, version 12.14.3* I’m deeply disappointed to learn that my teacher was banned from hilokal, along with all three of his accounts and his cafe of over 5.3k members.This action appears to have been taken due to false reports and fabricated screenshots made by a few individuals, which is both unfair and disheartening. This teacher has always been respectful, helpful and dedicated to the community. His cafe was a valuable space for learning, growth and connection for thousands of members, to see all that hard work and support wiped out because of a few baseless, false reports is extremely discouraging. I sincerely hope hilokal will take this matter seriously, conduct a fair investigation and consider reinstating his accounts and cafe. False reports should never be allowed to destroy the reputation and efforts of a genuinely good person who has contributed so much. ### 1/5 — A disarray taking a place in hilocal after the last update !! *2025-04-27* Many famous accounts got banned for crazy reasons and one of them was mine ! I was opening my own table and then someone texted me hi I responded hi? Two hours after i got banned for 24 hours of texting in tables and seven minutes later I got permanent ban from my account and my device as well and the claim was am abusing animals and sexually assaulting them !! Is that even possible !!is there any frog or a sheep fill a case for being assaulted by me !!??? And how could u figure out that it’s logically impossible cuz there is no video call in hilocal so how did he figure that out for God sake ! I have more then 300 hundred followers there plus more then 3 years and got banned for crazy reasons like this !? Within two days more then 15 old users and accounts got banned forever and still going one !! The support team is biased, selectively assisting users while ignoring others. Worse, the admin David bans accounts without justification, creating an environment of fear and distrust. The community is anything but inclusive, with rampant racism and exclusion of linguistic minorities. Instead of fostering a safe, diverse learning space, Hilokal has become toxic and unwelcoming. As a native English speaker curious about the Arabic language and hoping to help others in their English speaking endeavours, I quite enjoyed being welcomed into the Arabic speaking community, somehow the algorithms brought 99.9% Arabic speakers to my table before I had set it up to target Arabic speakers. I have gotten to know some really wonderful people. And what I learn from others on the app, I carry it with me in my day to day. I am grateful to الله for being given this opportunity. To be able to help others even just a little bit I am also grateful. The dev team also have been nothing but amazing as I sent them various ideas to improve the app—some practical and perhaps not so practical yet the dev team treated me with respect and gave time to respond and sounded like they would consider my ideas in the future. So to the dev team, thank you and I appreciate your considerations. I am taking a break from the app, but thoughts of my experiences are already shaping how I speak and also allowing me to connect with my community when I am able to connect. Thank you very much. Excellent functionality, features and sound quality. Actually, Hilokal is my favorite app out of the many I have tried for REAL learning and not only “social talking”. There are real lessons, the kind you will not find many of on the other apps.
