## What is HippoChomp?

HippoChomp is a quiet little world for a very small person. A hippo stands in a sunny field. Fruit pops up in the grass. Tap one and he waddles over, eats it in three big chomps, and does a happy hop.
That’s the whole game. There is no score, no timer, no levels, and no way to lose. Nothing ever tells your child they got it wrong, because there is no wrong.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TAP

• Tap fruit — a watermelon, pineapple, tomato or banana — and the hippo comes to eat it. Tap several and he works through them one at a time.
• Tap the hippo and he giggles.
• Tap the grass and a flower blooms. Tap the sun and it beams. Tap a cloud and it rains a little.
• Drag a finger and it leaves a trail of sparkles.
• No tap does nothing, and every finger counts — two-handed tapping and a sibling joining in both work.

THINGS THAT LIVE HERE

Butterflies drift past. A bird lands to hop about, and startles off if the hippo lumbers too close. Every minute or two a seal-point Siamese called Sushi strolls through, pauses to take it all in, and carries on. Tap him and he stops for a slow blink and a mew.
A big friendly number pops up after each fruit — 1, 2, 3 — counting the snacks in this sitting. It’s a counting moment, not a score: nothing is saved, and every launch starts again at one.

MADE TO BE HANDED OVER

• No accounts, no sign-in, no ads, no in-app purchases, no links out of the app.
• No data collected. None. The app has no networking code at all — it cannot phone home because there is nowhere to phone.
• Sound respects the silent switch and won’t interrupt music or a podcast.
• Works on iPhone and iPad, held any way up.

Tip: turn on Guided Access (Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access, then triple-click the side button) and the app is the only thing they can reach.

### 5/5 — Risk-free and adorable.

*2026-09-03*

Low-stim activity to keep a toddler entertained in moments they need a distraction, but totally safe with no data collection and no means of purchasing anything. Quite perfect if you just need a few minutes to have an important interaction at a customer service counter without the little one demanding your attention in all sorts of interruptive ways. Also super cute.

### 5/5 — Awesome

Entertaining game for children without worrying about the intention behind its creation. Created strictly for toddlers, not for data, not for money, not for addiction. Bravo! My 3 kids give it 6 thumbs up!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-09-10

A field full of flowers.

• The grass now starts the day with flowers already dotted across it, on iPhone and iPad alike — many more than before.
• The grass tufts and flowers are back where they belong, spread across the field. In the last version they had all crept into the corners of the screen.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-09-08

Small fixes for small hands.

• On iPad the app now always fills the screen, with no multitasking button over the sky to tap by accident.
• A swipe in from the edge of the screen no longer leaves the app on the first try — it takes a second, deliberate swipe.
• Drumming on the grass keeps making flowers. After fifteen quick taps it used to go quiet for a few seconds.
• The counting number can no longer be cut off when the hippo eats right at the edge of the screen.
• Tap the sun again while it's still beaming, or Sushi again while he's still blinking, and they answer that tap too. So does a fruit the hippo is already coming for — it wobbles again — and the hippo himself mid-meal, with a flap of the ears.
• Turning the iPad keeps the same field: the flowers and clouds stay where they were instead of being reshuffled.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-03

Two new things to discover, both suggested by a three-year-old.

• Tap a butterfly and it answers. It flutters harder, does a loop-the-loop and sheds a little puff of sparkles in its own color, then carries on its way.
• Sunshine plus rain makes a rainbow. Tap the sun so it glows, tap a cloud so it rains — in either order, there's no rush — and a rainbow rises over the field for a few seconds to a soft run of chimes, then fades.

Still no points, no timers and nothing to unlock. Just more things that do something when a small finger taps them.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-03

A few small fixes to the corners of the field.

• A tap along the top of the grass, or right at the bottom edge of the screen, now
blooms a flower like everywhere else. There were two thin strips where nothing
happened. There aren’t any more.
• Butterflies no longer drift off and get stranded when you turn the iPad.
• The bird keeps its distance from the fruit while it hops about, so it can’t settle
on top of a melon your child is trying to tap.
