Its cute and there are no ads. You can test whatever group of characters you want. I’m also learning more words I can practice often like what’s in your bedroom and I can choose to learn colours and so on. Duolingo is a good app but I prefer this for my early level. My only request is to change the message at the end of each lesson from “try harder next time!” to something like “keep going!” or something, as it is sorts of annoying. I wish each lesson would focus on one letter or sound and have more lessons because sometimes I’m trying to memorize but o can’t because it keeps switching to the next. I also would like the penguin to explain what I did wrong because every time I get something wrong I have to guess to get it right. I’m not a full beginner but I’m not fluent either and I agree with the other reviews that they think this is more for review and not to start from scratch and learn. This game teaches me better than Duolingo! If the word on the board is too long, it will run off the board making the text hard to read. Fix: re-size the text or board 2. You have to write in romangi (English characters). I think it would be really cool if the game had a mode where you translate romangi to hiragana. 3. If you get something wrong the penguin character just says you got it wrong. People who are newer to hiragana will struggle more if they don't know whats wrong with the text they wrote. Fix: a simple graphic that indicates where the player messed up This app is a great supplement to learning hiragana.
