## What is Hisab?

Hisab (हिसाब) turns the statements you already download into a clear picture of your money — without your data ever leaving your phone.

Import transaction exports from Google Pay, Paytm, or BHIM, and bank statements from HDFC Bank or IDFC FIRST Bank (PDF, XLSX, XLS, or TXT — password-protected PDFs supported). Hisab parses them deterministically and builds your personal bahi-khata:

• MONTHLY BUCKETS — every statement lights up the months it covers; a yearly statement fills twelve at once. See at a glance which months still await which statement.

• RECONCILIATION — every app payment is matched against your bank statement by UPI reference. Instantly see which payments the bank confirms, which are missing, and what you spent outside the apps.

• NO DOUBLE COUNTING — re-import a statement, import overlapping periods, or the same statement in two formats: transaction identity guarantees zero duplicates. Bank rows matched to app payments count once. Transfers between your own accounts are excluded automatically.

• ANALYTICS — monthly spend, income and net, six-month trend, category breakdown with editable rules, top merchants. Amounts in proper Indian notation (₹1,23,456.78).

• PRIVATE BY ARCHITECTURE — no account, no network access, no analytics, no tracking. Your financial data stays in the app's private storage on your device. The entire app is open source (Apache-2.0).

Made for India's statement formats. Missing your bank? The parser framework is open — contribute one on GitHub.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-22

Spending insights, on your dashboard.

Hisab now opens with a short, factual read on your own spending - built entirely on your phone from the statements you already imported.

- Category trends: see when a category moves against your own average, compared only against complete months so a partly-imported month can't skew it
- Recurring payments: new subscriptions, changed amounts, and what your fixed monthly commitments add up to
- Unusual charges: possible duplicate payments, and amounts far above what a merchant usually costs

Every card opens the exact transactions behind it. Dismiss any card and it stays gone; mute a merchant or a category and it stops appearing.

Also in this release: categorization no longer depends on the order your rules happen to be in. The most specific matching rule now wins, so a merchant whose name contains another rule's keyword is categorised correctly. If you have written your own rules where one keyword sits inside another, those transactions may move to the more specific rule.

Importing is simpler too: Hisab detects the statement format itself, so there's no source to pick before importing. If a file can't be read, you'll see which formats are supported and can request the one you need.

As always: no account, no ads, no network access. Nothing leaves your phone.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-09-17

Hisab now reads statements from any Indian bank that prints a running balance. SBI, ICICI, Axis, and Kotak work out of the box, and unknown formats are parsed automatically - every import is verified to the paisa against the statement's own balance column, so a wrong parse can never enter your ledger.

Also new:
- A much richer built-in categorization ruleset for Indian merchants
- A gentle once-a-day suggestion when recurring spending deserves its own category
- The Buckets grid now adapts to the accounts you actually use
- Can't-read-this-format? One tap emails us a layout description (never your transactions) and support arrives in an update

As always: no accounts, no ads, no network - everything stays on your iPhone.
