And come to that, grid references are useful, but far more useful for most people would be an exact address with postcode, since that’s how my satnav finds places, not with grid references. All feels rather clumsy ### 2/5 — Missed Opportunity *2018-03-03, version 2.1* The one big thing this app lacks is a members area and the possibility to store your membership card in the Apple wallet. I was searching where to enter my current membership details, hoping it would keep me informed of my membership status, rather than taking me off to an external website trying to sell me a new membership when I hit the membership tab, which has no purpose when you're already a member. That big bold tab should be to stay informed of your membership (renewal dates, etc). Not trying to sell you stuff you already have from an external weblink. Surely? Another big improvement would be to order location by distance, rather than a load of random locations of various distances - I was 5 minutes away from one castle, but when I tried the app to see what others were in my immediate vicinity, it was the last on the list - not even a mileage indicator to see the distances without going into every location. Other useful stuff would be to have a checklist for members so we can mark off the castles we have already visited. A live zoomable map would be useful in this instance too, so you could check the locations of surrounding castles. Worth 3 stars, simply because the app exists, but that's about all it's worth in its current status. Hopefully the developers will improve this soon, as it currently feels like beta software. ### 1/5 — Hopeless *2016-05-24, version 1.2.0* It doesn't work. It told me there were no attractions within a 50 mile radius (hello? Edinburgh Castle? Stirling Castle? Linlithgow Palace? Crichton Castle? Dirleton Castle?...??) and when I clicked on regions it also offered nothing. How many people are missing out on places because it says it is closed? For example Linlithgow Palace, shows as closed but is definitely open. The update option is buried in settings but even when I did that the information was still no updated. How about doing updates when you open the app? ### 4/5 — Brilliant app but just needs a couple adjustments to be perfect *2019-07-10, version 2.1.9* An excellent app showing the locations of all Historic Scotland managed locations. The Map of Scotland took is great for checking what’s around the area you’re planning to visit. You can make an itinerary of what to visit and check of where you’ve been. On the aforementioned map, it would be useful to see what locations are marked as ‘visited’ (maybe change the icon colour) and show those on an itinerary. It would also be great if the itinerary took was more integrated into the map locations pages and map, as well as being able to select locations based on their map location rather than having to go back and forth to find the close together locations. ### 4/5 — Landscape view *2018-09-11, version 2.1.5* Please, please make it available in auto rotate mode. ### 4/5 — I was hoping an app would come out! *2016-03-04, version 1.2.0* A great wee app handy to have if you've not got your guidebook about.
