Some open the first time while many others don’t open at all. If this is resolved I’ll be much happier as I love the idea of this app ### 2/5 — Good, but bug... *2020-01-07* I was excited to get the app today but discovered a major flaw. Every marker I click on pulls up an almost invisible bubble outline. It took me a while to even see it and then took much longer to realize these bubbles are suppose to be text filled to allow me to see what I clicked. Clicking on the near invisible bubbles does take me to the desired page, but the process is needlessly difficult. Either clicking on the marker itself should open the page, or the bubbles should be more obvious with text. Can this please be fixed, as it is clearly a bug? Thank you. *As a side note, I have sent this as an email to support and have since gotten 3 “failure to send” notifications over the past week. This means the email you have set on the support page does not work properly. **Developer response:** Hi Czilla85. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It looks like these bugs started happening with one of the recent iOS updates. I'm working on a fix and should have it ready for release in about a week, so hopefully that will clear up both pin popup and email problems. Thanks again and I hope you can continue enjoying the app! ### 3/5 — Good, but needs update *2019-12-22* This app is sufficient for my needs and I have found a lot of markers I would of otherwise not known. The roadside historical markers were of interest but not practical to pull over for. Figured this app would be the answer, not so much. We've reached NV now and finally it has some roadside markers that show up for us to read while driving by. Pulled up great sights, but when clicking the more info icon the app would kick me out and I would have to start over again, never providing me the opportunity to read the entire history. ### 3/5 — Speech engine terrible. Database good. *2016-03-27, version 3.3* The speech engine is absolutely terrible (meaning the voice you listen to which "reads" the markers out loud). It sounds like a bad 1980's version of a talking robot. Hard to understand. I realize a good speech engine may be expensive but you can't advertise "text to speech" and have it be as lousy as this. The database interaction is great, so if you travel and want to sit and read on your phone what the local markers say, then this would be fine for that. But I was hoping this would read the markers to me as I drive past them. It’s a toss of the dice as to whether or not the marker description will open on a new screen. This app USED to be great; please fix it! While my husband drove, I would look for historical markers and read them to him. Even when they’re not close to the road, you can still read them from the app. It kept us busy and it was fun to learn his historical information on the area. ### 5/5 — The best is about to get better! *2020-02-09* Several years ago, this was such an amazing resource for reading about state and national-level historical markers. Simple and easy to use. It’s been a long time since the last update, but there’s a new one coming soon! **Developer response:** Hi maritimeseven. Have no fear, I'm working on an update! I really do want to keep the app uptodate, as I use it myself all the time. It's easy to use and works as described. I'm using the app with my iPhone 7 with iOS 10.1 and it seems to work fine, so not sure what all the negative comments are about. ### 5/5 — Update Fixed Recent Bug With iOS 10 *2017-03-15* The most recent update fixed the bug that prevented the app from being used in iOS 10 that people are complaining about in the comments. I've used the app on and off for a few years and the developer has always been quick to fix these kinds of problems. Overall it's a fun app if you like hunting for historical markers. ### 5/5 — Fantastic App! *2016-12-30* I'm so happy that I found this app. It's simple and works as advertised. My wife and I use it on our road trips through the Appalachians and it's become an indespensible resource for learning about local history. I've written Dan (the author) a couple of times to report bugs and always recieved a quick response. My only suggestion would be to include the ability to upload new images of markers, but Dan tells me that feature is in the works, so fingers crossed. It's a great app and definitely 5 out of 5 stars! ### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for! *2016-09-03, version 3.4* Driving along, we didn't have time to stop at a historical marker - seems signs never give enough notice when driving 55 mph. I thought to myself, hmmmmm.....I wonder if there's an app for that, and sure enough! Only a mile down the road I knew what the historical marker was for. Also found out the cemetery where my grandparents are buried has a historical marker! Never knew that before! Thanks so much for a great app! Being able to see photos of the markers really sets it apart. The app is a joy to use and elegant in its simplicity! ### 5/5 — The app is fixed and working great! *2016-07-05, version 3.4* Looks like the v3.4 update fixed the bug that everyone has been reporting in the comments. I wrote the author last week and got an immediate response saying that he was working on a fix. Forutnetely, the update came in just in time for the 4th of July weekend! In any case, this is one of my favorite road trip apps and I can't recommend it enough.
