### 3/5 — Eh

*2023-03-19*

So confused on half of what even happen or how any of it ties together. Pretty random, story line got lossed. Like whose half the people and how do they even play a part in the story or why? just nothing was explained and I’m still not even sure what happen at the end? The whole guards and wall thing just got lost halfway through it seems idk just seems unfinished, or like different people worked on each part so they don’t even really make sense or flow together, like why did anything that happened happen? Dream? Magic? What happen to everyone in the story? Just seems like a bunch of stories or conspiracy theories put together into “one” story thing and this is the weird outcome

### 4/5 — It’s better than most Apple Arcade crap

*2023-01-21, version 1.0.59*

I will say that this is the best thing to come out of Apple Arcade and the first driver is really inspirational like he humbled me but well the woman was annoying she got on my nerves and I wanted her drive to be over so make her drive more engaging it’s about like everyone else ig it started out really good but then ended terribly like I was so disappointed with the ending like there better be a part 2 to be fair though I put off my home work for 2 days just playing this and hooping so it’s got me by this is coming from someone in college so ig it’s somewhat engaging to some degree

### 3/5 — Disappointing ending

*2022-12-27, version 1.0.59*

I really wanted to enjoy this game but then there was really no point to the whole game in the end….maybe they should come out with another game similar but more in depth where you actually end up solving something in the end

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2022-11-29, version 1.0.59*

I loved playing this game. I have played many mobile games that are trash and some that are okay. But this game takes it to the next level. There is an amazing story where you keep losing your memory and have to find your lost girlfriend while hitchhiking. But you can’t trust just anybody, not even yourself. At first I thought that I wouldn’t like it because I don’t really have an interest in point and click games. But after 5 minutes I was drawn in to the mystery. The only problem is that it has an ending that is wholesome but it leaves some holes. You never find out more about the man with many eyes or actually find your girlfriend. But overall, for anyone looking for a great story game for mobile, this is what you’ve been looking for.

### 3/5 — Got sorta confusing

*2022-11-28, version 1.0.59*

The game started out very interesting, one of those games where u have to make the right choice. Then it got… weird. The drivers talk for a very long time and if u want to play it again, there is no “skip dialogue” button so u have to sit through it again. At the end, none of the mysteries were really resolved, like, (spoiler), did the girlfriend actually get kidnapped, or did we get her into a car accident by taking her phone while she was driving? And, she was having an affair right. Overall, a pretty good game, but would not play again, imo.

### 4/5 — HAS POTENTIAL

*2022-09-08, version 1.0.59*

this game has sooo much potential at the enddd. the end was very bad in my opinion like they could have dragged it on a bit & talked more abt the man with the eyes! & could’ve put things in to interact with that whole thing

### 4/5 — So much wasted potential

*2022-03-13, version 1.0.59*

I agree with pretty much every review here- the art, the story, the uniqueness of this game is so much fun in the beginning. It’s a story game full of relatively challenging puzzles. However, the writers invested way too many storylines and minor plot elements that they couldn’t tie in later. It’s disappointing because it gets you to be invested in every little detail to solve the mystery, and teases the details as if they will come back to pay off, then leaves you hanging.

### 3/5 — Great potential

*2022-01-01, version 1.0.59*

I have to agree with others that this game has great potential and is good, however, you never find out how you ended up in this ‘dream’ world and the difference between what is real and what is made up or how you lost your memory. There is nothing to sum up the ending of the story. Other than that it was pretty good.

### 4/5 — Unsettling but in a good way

*2021-11-28, version 1.0.59*

This game is actually quite wonderful it is written really well and the whole story was really interesting. Although this game isn’t classified as horror but to me it gives you a perspective on reality that is so unsettling that it makes you question if anything is real anymore. I will say it got a little bit odd towards the end and I wasn’t 100% satisfied with how it ended but I think it still was a pretty amazing game and was well done. I recommend you play it

### 4/5 — Warning: Possible spoilers

*2021-11-12, version 1.0.59*

This is a great game, don’t get me wrong. The visuals were amazing, I loved each and every different ride, I loved the element of mystery, the story was intriguing and fun and meeting all the different people was fun as well. But my issue is, like many other people have stated before, the ending. I guess it could just be open for interpretation but I’m really not sure, was it all just a weird dream and his girlfriend was completely fine? Was it just a dream but instead of her being kidnapped had they simply broken up? Or was she actually kidnapped? In my personal opinion I think it was the second option, but there’s still a lot of open ends that make it questionable. Would just have liked a more conclusive ending, but other than that I absolutely loved the game.

### 3/5 — Problems are a-happening.

*2021-11-04, version 1.0.59*

So I finished the second car ride and so I put down the game and intended to pick it back up in the morning and play the third ride, but when I hopped back on and pressed continue it loaded the second car rides loading screen and then the screen went black.

Overall upset.

### 3/5 — It started out good

*2021-09-30, version 1.0.59*

The story and mystery was interesting enough but overall I’m disappointed by the game or more so disappointed by the ending.
There really needs to be a skip function or something because I really don’t want to replay and sit through the same thing over and over without it being like a Groundhog Day thing where your character knows the info beforehand and the story changes some. I heard the ending is the same outcome but depending on your dialogue options you get answers. Starting from a chapter wont help me since I don’t know what’s suppose to influence the story and sitting through slow dialogue isn’t fun a second time. Maybe find a guide first.

Overall the experience was fun my first play through since I went in blind and was very curious but I wish there a skip/fast forward because I still don’t have answers to questions the game told me.

### 4/5 — Good concept. The ending?

*2021-07-08, version 1.0.59*

[mild spoilers] I really liked the concept of the game.

Personally, I enjoyed listening to the drivers ramble about random philosophic stories. Although I do have to agree with everyone else on how the ending seemed to lack a certain closure.

A lot of symbolism and questions goes unaddressed but you do get a gist of what happens between the main character and his girlfriend. It’s a well made game that needs some improvement upon the storyline.

### 3/5 — What wasted potential…so far

*2021-06-30, version 1.0.59*

Like so many others have written, the idea is really compelling, but so much left hanging and so much unexplained. Like, why the points at the diner and all the yap about robots? Am I meeting that dude with the lost dog in a year or no? I feel like there are too many unanswered questions.

### 3/5 — Started out fun but ended weird

*2021-05-29, version 1.0.59*

POSSIBLE SPOILERS: This started out to be pretty fun, it seemed like you were gonna solve a mystery and obtain a bunch of different clues in order to reach the end and defeat the bad guys and save the girl. Plus it seemed like one of those games where you had to make the right choice in order to get all the goals but I’m not actually sure if that matters, I might have to play it again. It just got kinda weird towards the end. You didn’t actually find out how you had lost your memory, and you never made contact with “the man with many eyes” (or something like that). Some of the clues weren’t really clues and it didn’t explain how exactly the drivers got there or how you magically appeared in their car. The drivers would talk for a really really long time about things that didn’t really have anything to do with the plot, it took me almost thirty minutes to get through the levels. Some of the drivers stories seemed kinda random and just thrown together. It was like a mixture of science fiction and mystery, it wasn’t a bad game at all just weird with a bunch of story holes and the ending was disappointing.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hard Pass!

*2021-03-30, version 1.0.59*

This is, by far, one of the worst games I’ve ever played in my life. The game gives you the illusion of being able to chart your on course through the game. However, my daughter and I played side-by-side and, regardless of what you choose, it’s the same basic storyline with just a few lines of dialogue added here and there.

Such potential but when your decisions don’t really change anything in the game, it’s just a joke and waste of time.

### 2/5 — It starts out so good…until

*2023-03-28*

I read previous reviews on this game before I managed to play it through myself, and I thought “everyone is saying the same thing, but I definitely would like to see for myself.” I should have heeded these reviews, and not have wasted hours of my time completing this game. There are no resolutions, multiple plot-holes, and an unsatisfactory ending. It ends up making the idea of it being a mystery game seem redundant since it all leads to one inconclusive end. I’m saddened that the developers never came back to this project to add in more possibilities, or even just more gameplay. It has so much potential, but it seems like it was abandoned.

### 2/5 — A Tragic Waste Of Time

*2022-12-26, version 1.0.59*

Hitch Hiker is overly ambitious. It’s honestly just a mess. Most of the “sales points” that they use to market the game are blatantly false and misleading. It’s barely a game and an entry in the “walking simulator” genre of interactive media similar to Firewatch. And just like FIrewatch… it’s just not any fun to play. The amount of interactivity is almost nonexistent and is essentially boiled down to a person telling you to do a thing and then you pointing at it. “Pick that up”. “Put that there.” It’s tedious and unfun.

Most people complain about the story, which isn’t truly a problem. Yes, the story is vague and requires thought, but it’s all there. The true problem is that the story just isn’t very interesting. If you actually explained the story to the people who don’t GET the story, they would be dissapointed. It’s bog standard, JR High levell stuff.

But it IS told in an interesting way. The first fifth of the game is legitimately good and the surrealism is ALMOST worth the time it takes to play teh game. But the tedium of playing the game combined with the fact that the longer the game runs, the worse the story becomes makes it not worth the effort of playing it.

An extremly promising start, but a poor effort. If they make another game, they need to make sure that the story is a story worth telling before anything else.

### 2/5 — Weirdest Game I’ve Ever Played

*2022-01-14, version 1.0.59*

I’m using a free trial of Apple Arcade, and I’m really glad I never had to buy this game. The storyline from the beginning was very promising and it was weird but I wanted to know how it ended, but the ending was disappointing and basically left on a cliff hanger. I feel like I wasted my time playing this because I have a lot of questions left unanswered. Don’t waste your time playing this.

### 2/5 — A tedious waste of time

*2021-08-14, version 1.0.59*

I started out thinking this was an interesting, high-concept story/game but much like Kentucky Route Zero, I found myself eventually wondering what the point was. I was sort of interested in finding out what happens but the long narrative, especially with no way to advance through it, just got too annoying and I'm now done.

### 2/5 — Glitched and stuck

*2021-07-06, version 1.0.59*

Good game so far but I’m on the third ride and my curser never shows up, so when she pulls out the card it just says “inspect the card” over and over with no option to actually inspect the card. Wish I could give a better review but at this point the rest of the game is unplayable. Fix it and I’ll continue playing, thanks!

### 2/5 — A long downhill road to nowhere.

*2021-05-18, version 1.0.59*

I really wanted to like this game. The core concept of a road trip like this is a great setting for a potential story. The art style is sharp. It controls well and seems very polished.

But, then we get to the actual story and it is just such a disappointment. With every chapter, the story becomes more and more disjointed and incomprehensible. There are weird recurring elements, like a man with many eyes. It’s completely unclear if that’s supposed to be i’s on a business card, or zeroes on some foreign currency, or something else. It’s even unclear who this person is, and there will never be a satisfactory answer. It just seems like the authors shifted focus at the midpoint to finish their story entirely with some impenetrable surreal high concept symbolism. It is sad to see such a promising concept go so awry.

### 2/5 — Great story in beginning; Horrible ending

*2021-05-01, version 1.0.59*

WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS in my review. I don’t want to give anything away. The story in the beginning was very intriguing and I definitely wanted to keep playing to see what would happen next. It was a amazing story until literally the ending. You have all of this build up for the story and then the most disappointing ending. It was like it just randomly ended. Many questions left unanswered and just a horrible cliff hanger ending. I don’t want to interpret the ending to what I think it means, if that was the intention. Maybe post a thread somewhere on what the ending signified to the creators and who all of the characters represented. I understand about who Craig represented and the crash, but I still felt there were questions in the end unanswered. When you have that much build up it needs a more solid clear ending. It made the entire game feel pointless and a waste of time. Which I hate, because I was really enjoying the story. Would have been one of the best Apple Arcade games I played if there was a more clear. ending. With an actual updated ending or a thread explaining what the ending fully represented, then I’ll replay and update my review.

### 2/5 — Cool Start, but Broken for Apple TV

*2021-03-28, version 1.0.59*

It starts off as a really cool game and I’d love to keep playing but there’s a bug that prevents gameplay past the crows/windmill part for Apple TV. When looking through the binoculars, the screen is black. Not a huge deal at first, but then during the crow/windmill part you need to be able to see to move the scarecrows. Black screen through binoculars so can’t go any further. 😭

### 3/5 — I can’t tap the item no more

*2023-12-22*

OK this game is good it’s so fun I don’t drive for one was a killer because why did you have a picture but that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m here to talk about why I can’t touch some items in driver to or take a picture and drive her to I cannot open the book to find Lola because it won’t let me it won’t let me tap on it. I can’t take a picture on the third picture with the sign because I when I tap on it it’s not taking a picture and I keep resetting, and then I had to reset all over because from driver one and when I got to drive or two, I couldn’t open the book in an unacceptable. It’s a good game, but you guys need to stop and let me because I am playing on the iPad. I don’t want to start all over again because of this game.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Well designed metaphorical game(SPOILERS)

*2023-02-23, version 1.0.59*

I will preface by saying this game isn’t to be taken literally but is designed with hidden messages and clues to a grandiose metaphorical ending. There are a lot of clues along the way that there’s more to it than some stupid damsel in distress(which for some reason many reviews seem upset about?) It only became more and more obvious even before the trunk scene that the character had inner turmoil unrelated to some arbitrary kidnapping and a two dimensional villain. It seemed pretty obvious that it was his fault all along and he was just unknowingly navigating his guilt and denial. Did no one wonder why they didn’t want him to find out? They know he isn’t in danger because it’s obvious he’s dreaming, so it’s clear they know he will find out it was all his fault which is why they say to let it go.

### 5/5 — Interesting adventure!

*2022-08-24, version 1.0.59*

This is a really neat mystery story where your choices have consequences. Because of that, there’s lots of replayability since you may not fully understand the story (particularly the ending) depending on the choices you made along the way. Something I really like about this game was the ability to replay individual car rides to change your choices/get different dialog rather than having to start from the beginning. I loved my time with this game and highly recommend it to a mystery lover!

### 5/5 — Dare to give this game …a ride

*2022-08-20, version 1.0.59*

Usually I wouldn’t entertain anything less than ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, but I’m glad I played this eccentric game regardless. There aren’t too many puzzles 🧩 nor are they too difficult; it’s more choosing dialogue in a linear adventure. There are 5️⃣ chapters that run about twenty to thirty minutes each. The story may not be crystal clear, but it’s a fun journey worth taking (especially for fans of Neo Cab 🚕).

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2022-06-02, version 1.0.59*

Don’t listen to what these other people say. This is really amazing it’s like being in a movie. I really hope you come out with a part two. I’ve got some ideas but I just don’t know where to start. How about doing a live one instead of a cartoon? I know that’s gonna take some time to do that but it would be cool.

### 5/5 — Underrated

*2022-03-15, version 1.0.59*

This game is so lovely and it makes you question psychological things and question reality, they put in so much effort into this game and is well written. There animations and drawings are so good and neat, this game is underrated

### 5/5 — Great story game

*2021-10-07, version 1.0.59*

This was one of the best story games i’ve ever played. The story line is like someone finding out himself and teaches life lessons. The voice acting is 10/10 and each character has their own struggles in life really teaches us how we are all different from another but always have a solution for one another. If anything, this game is a must play for anyone that wants a good story. Some say the ending is a bit of a cliff hanger but that’s partly true but half the story comes from each character and if you ignore what they say, than of course the ending is gonna be weird. I recommend playing this all in one sitting since it’s gonna be really weird coming back and forgetting what happened. Game is 2 hours or more of playtime of all the talking but makes up with a good story and life lessons. I can’t explain anymore but just go ahead and play this game

### 5/5 — Wow

*2021-08-17, version 1.0.59*

I’ve never wrote a review on anything before, much less a mobile game. But this game was honestly life-changing. I extremely recommend everyone to play this little interactive mystery, seriously a few hours out of your life will be so worth it. I think it inspired me to write a book, I’ll follow up in about 5 years

### 5/5 — I had no issues at all with the game

*2021-07-09, version 1.0.59 (3)*

MBP 2019 game ran like a dream. Interesting story but Im so confused....so did she? I dont want to spoil it...but you know, go to the OTHER side? Im so confused...the eyes, serbia, the crash....what does it all mean? Did someone take her? I think you ended it too quickly. I think you need one last chapter to explain the story. I loved it. Thank you for making it.

### 5/5 — I’m blown away that a video game could be psychologically rich?

*2021-05-09, version 1.0.59*

I am a little perplexed that so many people have complained about the ending. This game has a lot of metaphors and you do need to make connections that aren’t explicitly spelled out for you, but that’s part of why this game is so powerful—it embraces complex ideas while portraying the struggle to comprehend life/the people we love/what is going on inside of ourselves. I felt like I was seeing someone go through a very honest and brave period of self-reflection who was trying to look out at the world with as much clarity as possible. There was such thoughtfulness and kindness to it. I loved this game.

### 5/5 — A completely unexpected experience- Love it!

*2021-04-14, version 1.0.59*

More an interactive movie than a traditional game, this is a true slow burn, best enjoyed by sitting back and surrendering to the game play. By allowing the drivers to set the pace, you, as the hitchhiker, are free to explore the environment. Over 5 “rides” HitchHiker drives you from the familiarity of the suburbs, through expansive rural landscapes, into the unreliability of dreams, the subconscious and reconstructed memory. Though ride 5 could have been longer and could have revealed some of the unknown aspects underpinning the greater story, it provides a highly satisfying, cyclic and - like all the best movies - enigmatic conclusion. Highly recommended!
