## What is Hivecard?

Hivecard is the calm, single-purpose beekeeping inspection log for hobbyists and small sideliner apiaries. Open the app at the hive, run through the seven-field checklist, and you have a clean, exportable record by the time your smoker stops puffing.

WHAT YOU LOG, EVERY VISIT
- Queen seen? Eggs seen?
- Brood pattern: solid, spotty, sparse, or none -- each tied to a one-line plain-English meaning.
- Mite count and method: alcohol wash, sugar shake, or sticky board. Hivecard knows the treatment threshold for each method and flags counts that cross it.
- Treatments applied this visit -- pick from the bundled list (Apivar, Apiguard, Formic Pro, oxalic acid, HopGuard) or leave blank.
- Supers added or removed.
- Mood: calm, moderate, or hot. Trends matter.
- Optional photo via Apple's permission-free Photos picker.
- Optional weather snapshot stamped via WeatherKit (temperature, humidity, conditions) -- so the inspection record always carries the day's context.
- Free-form notes for anything else.

WEATHER, DONE RIGHT
Turn Weather on in Settings and Hivecard asks for your one-shot coordinate only when you tap "Fetch weather" inside an inspection. The coordinate is used immediately, never stored. The weather snapshot is saved on this device with the inspection. If you are offline or decline, the inspection is logged with empty weather fields and a clear note -- nothing blocks.

ANNUAL PDF REPORT
Tap the Report tab, pick a hive and a year, and Hivecard generates an inspector-ready PDF: hive summary, key stats, a mite-trend chart with the treatment threshold drawn in, and a full inspection log with a weather column. Share via Files, AirDrop, Mail, or Messages -- whatever your state ag office prefers.

REFERENCE BUILT IN
- The international queen-marking color convention (years ending 0/5 = blue, 1/6 = white, 2/7 = yellow, 3/8 = red, 4/9 = green), with this season's color highlighted.
- Brood-pattern descriptions for new beekeepers learning to read the comb.
- Mite-treatment options at a glance.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Hivecard has no account, no ads, no analytics, no subscription, no tracking, no backend. Hives, inspections, photos, and any weather snapshots all live on this device and stay there. The PrivacyInfo manifest declares only the standard UserDefaults reason code required for local preferences. The location permission is "when in use" and is requested ONLY when you opt into Weather and tap Fetch.

ONE-TIME PURCHASE
A single 0.99 USD purchase. No in-app purchases. No upsells. No tiers. The features above are the whole product.

GREAT FOR
- First-year beekeepers who want a structured place to write things down.
- Sideliners running a handful of hives who need an audit-ready PDF when the bee inspector calls.
- Mentors and clubs who want apprentices to learn the seven-field rhythm.

Open Hivecard, add your first hive, and start logging.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 2.0 — 2026-06-24

Hivecard 2.0 — a big pro upgrade from a single-hive card to a full apiary manager, still calm and offline.

• Apiary / bee-yard management: group your hives by yard with an overview.
• Varroa monitor: record wash counts for mites per 100 bees with season-aware action thresholds and recommendations (informational).
• Feeding log with a 1:1 / 2:1 syrup calculator and overwintering-stores math.
• Queen registry with marking-color age, third-season flags, and requeen history.
• Swarm & split log, plus an inspection scheduler with reminders and overdue badges.
• Health trends charts (mite %, frames of bees, stores, mood) and a multi-hive apiary PDF plus mite-test and feeding CSV exports.

Beekeeping facts are informational, not veterinary advice. No account, no cloud — everything stays on your device.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-15

What's New in 1.2

Honey Harvest Log - Log each extraction with date, weight (lb or kg), number of supers, and notes. Running total and harvest count shown per hive. Full history newest-first.

Treatment Tracker - Log a mite treatment as a dated event with product, label duration, expected end date, and days remaining. Add a post-treatment mite count when you retest; Hivecard shows whether it passed the threshold and flags overdue retests (University of Minnesota Extension: retest 3-4 weeks after treatment ends). Pre-fills label durations: Apivar 42 days, Apiguard 28 days, Formic Pro 14 days, HopGuard 3 30 days, OAV/dribble single-session.

CSV Export - Export all inspections, all harvests, or all treatment events as a CSV file for Apple Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets. Available from the Report tab. RFC 4180 compliant; dates ISO 8601; temperature in your preferred unit.

Weight units - lb/kg setting in Settings -> Units for the harvest log. Stored in pounds; switching is lossless.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-14

What's New in 1.1

Colony Strength Tracker — Record frames of bees, honey stores, and pollen at each inspection. Hivecard converts frames of bees to an estimated population (one full comb ≈ 2,400 bees) and rates the colony as Weak, Moderate, Strong, or Very Strong. The hive card now shows the latest colony strength alongside the mite average.

Disease & Pest Reference — Ten offline entries covering American Foulbrood, European Foulbrood, Sacbrood, Chalkbrood, Nosema, Deformed Wing Virus, Small Hive Beetle, Wax Moth, Varroa, and Tracheal Mites. Each entry has visual symptoms, look-alikes, and concrete actions. Sourced from USDA ARS and university extension publications. Notifiable conditions are flagged.

Seasonal Task Calendar — Month-by-month apiary guide with 37 tasks across the full beekeeping year. Critical tasks (mite treatments, winter prep, swarm prevention) are sorted first within each month. Covers temperate northern-hemisphere climates.

Annual PDF — Colony strength data is now included in the inspection log section of the PDF when recorded.
