## What is HiveNote?

HiveNote is a hive inspection logbook for beekeepers. Your records are written to your own phone the moment you tap, and they stay there. There is no account to be locked out of, no server to go down, and nothing to sync wrong.

YOUR RECORDS ARE YOURS, AND THEY ARE HERE
Every entry saves immediately to a plain database file on the device. Photos are copied into the app, so clearing your camera roll does not empty your logbook. You can save your records, photos included, as a single backup file to iCloud Drive or anywhere else you like, free of charge, and with the one-time unlock open a season as a PDF or spreadsheet.

RECORD AN INSPECTION IN UNDER A MINUTE
Big controls sized for gloved thumbs. Large, high-contrast type you can read in full sun. Every field optional, so you record what you actually checked and skip the rest.

• Queen seen, not seen, or eggs seen
• Brood pattern and queen cells
• Frames of bees and frames of stores, with hold-to-repeat steppers
• Temperament and space
• Varroa count per 100 bees, with the sampling method used
• Disease and pest signs
• Hive weight
• Actions taken, with treatment product and dose
• Photos
• Eggs, larvae and capped brood, honey and pollen stores, boxes and supers
• Weather and what is in flower
• A note you can dictate instead of typing
• A next visit date that becomes a reminder

THE RECORDS YOU HAVE TO KEEP
Treatments with product, dose, batch, the date they went in and came out, and the withholding date. Bees coming in (packages, nucs, swarms) and going out (sold, given away, dead). AFB tests. Training. Each is its own dated record, and all of them go on one PDF with your registration details at the top. These are the record types the Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice lists. HiveNote makes no claim about what applies to you. It lists what you entered.

KNOW WHAT YOU FOUND LAST TIME
Your hive list shows days since the last inspection and what was recorded at it, before you lift the lid.

WALK THE ROW, NOT THE MENU
A QR label on the lid opens that hive. You do not inspect one hive, you work down the yard. Run the yard moves you straight from one hive to the next as you finish each one, tells you how many are left, and picks up where you stopped when the run gets interrupted.

YOUR TREATMENT RECORD, ON ITS OWN
Every treatment you enter is collected into one dated record with the product and dose, separate from the inspections, and exports as a PDF or spreadsheet. It lists what you entered.

WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL
Everything is stored on your phone in a plain database file. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Nothing you record is sent anywhere. The only thing that ever needs a connection is the purchase itself.

IT RECORDS, IT DOES NOT ADVISE
HiveNote does not interpret your observations, score your colonies, or tell you when to treat, feed, or requeen. It has no opinion about your bees. Those judgements belong to you and to your own sources. If you work to a figure from a source you trust, you can write it down in Settings and HiveNote will show it back to you beside the varroa count, exactly as you entered it.

ONE PAYMENT, NOT ONE A YEAR
Paid tiers in this category are usually annual, and can run to around $50 a year, every year you keep beekeeping. HiveNote is a single purchase.

The free version keeps one apiary and five hives with every inspection feature. A single purchase adds unlimited hives and apiaries, PDF and CSV export, photo history, and the harvest log. There is no subscription and there will not be one.

Your records are never held back from you. Export keeps working for as long as you have the app, and a backup is a single file you can save to iCloud Drive or anywhere else you like.

ONE DEVELOPER
HiveNote is built by one developer who is not a beekeeper. That is exactly why it takes no view on beekeeping: a logbook cannot be wrong about your bees. If something in it gets in your way, write in and it gets fixed.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-01

1.3 adds two things and changes no habits.
• Varroa counts on the hive screen: every count you entered, with date and method, newest first. Numbers as you wrote them, no verdicts.
• An empty first launch can add a sample yard to look around. Everything in it says Sample and deletes like any apiary.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-31

1.2.1 tidies the screens.
• Home links are one clear list.
• Hive cards line up, and the days count sits inside the comb cell.
• Brood stages grouped on the form, with shorter guidance.
• Bigger touch targets on small actions. iPad and safe area fixes.
• Plain factual wording on Settings and the unlock screen.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-31

1.2 records more of what a beekeeper has to keep.

• Photos are now inside the backup file, and a restore puts them back.
• Records: treatments with batch and withholding date, bees coming in and going out, AFB tests, training, all on one dated PDF.
• A queen record for each hive, hive order you can arrange, and reminders you set from the next visit field.
• More on the form: eggs, larvae, capped brood, honey and pollen stores, boxes and supers, weather, forage.
• QR labels for the lid, scanned to open that hive.
• Bring records in from a spreadsheet (CSV).
• Fixes: rename, split and dead-out now work on Android, export dates use your local day, and apiary photos no longer vanish.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-26
