## What is Hockey Team Setup?

Hockey Setup is the lineup tool for ice hockey coaches. Build your roster, fill your lines, hand the lineup to your team and the officials as a PDF — no account, right there on your iPhone and iPad.

THE LINEUP AT A GLANCE
Four forward lines, three defense pairs, the goaltenders, plus two units each for power play and penalty kill. Players sit as circles on the ice; one tap moves you from line to line.

FILLING POSITIONS, FAST
Tap a position and pick from a list sorted by how well each player fits. Or drag a player onto their spot; drag one onto another to swap the two.

THE ROSTER
Name, date of birth, player ID and jersey number, positions, which side they shoot, captaincy, availability. Age, birth year and age group follow from the date of birth. A jersey number used twice stands out right away.

STRENGTHS AT A GLANCE
Rate every player on six skills from one to five stars: Speed, Shooting, Passing, Puck Skills, Physical and Defense. Goaltenders have their own set: Glove Hand, Blocker, Five-Hole, Reaction, Speed and Stick Work. It adds up to a hexagon chart, and the overall rating sits next to the name while you fill positions.

STATISTICS PER TOURNAMENT
One table per tournament: games, goals, assists, points and penalty minutes — GP, G, A, P, PM. After the game you tick who played and enter what came of it. Goaltenders get a table of their own with goals against, shots against, save percentage and shutouts. Kept apart by season, with a season total for each.

CROSS-ICE UNITS AND SHIFT CLOCK
In children's hockey, fixed color-coded units change as a whole. The app splits your skaters across up to four units — red, yellow, green, blue — as evenly as the regulations prescribe, balanced by rating if you like. The shift clock counts down, warns ten seconds ahead and calls the change with a tone and haptics, even with the device set to silent. It always shows who is on the ice and who is up next. For practice there is a free individual rotation.

AGE GROUPS
The group follows from birth year and season — in 2026/27, players born in 2016 are U11. It shows on the roster, in the lineup and on the printout.

FILTERS
Age group, age, shooting side, status and captaincy can all be narrowed at once — in the roster list, when picking a player, and in the lineup suggestion.

TWO PDF TEMPLATES
The lineup sheet in portrait: a table with jersey number and player ID, age group and signature lines, for the locker room and for officials. The visual overview in landscape shows the starting lineup on the ice. Every block, every column and the header can be switched off on its own. Share by AirDrop or mail, save to Files, print over AirPrint.

SEVERAL TEAMS
Coaching U11 and the seniors? Create both — each with its own roster, its own lineup, its own statistics and its own club logo. A tap on the club name switches between them.

YOUR CLUB, YOUR LOOK
Add your club logo and it appears on the roster, in the lineup and on both PDF templates. Add your club color, a light or dark appearance, and one of four presets for the rink.

GERMAN AND ENGLISH
Switch the language inside the app, without restarting — using the terms common in hockey: Lineup, Roster, Power play, Penalty kill.

ON ALL YOUR DEVICES
Turn on sync via iCloud and your teams are ready on every device signed in with the same Apple Account — planned on the iPad, used at the bench on the iPhone. The data goes only into the private database of your own iCloud account; the developer has no access to it.

NO ACCOUNT, NO ADS
No sign-up with the developer, no advertising, no tracking of what you do. Sync via iCloud is off out of the box; leave it off and the app works entirely offline.

To try things out you can load a sample roster of entirely fictional players. You can delete that sample data whenever you want.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-10-02

SYNC NOW RUNS THROUGH ICLOUD DRIVE

Until now your teams lived in a database nobody could look at – not even you. Uploading worked, fetching did not, and because it was all invisible there was no way to tell why.

Now your teams are ordinary files in your own iCloud Drive, in a folder called "Hockey Setup". You can see them in the Files app and in the Finder. If something does not arrive, you can go and look instead of guessing.

Nothing changes about privacy: the files sit in your own iCloud Drive. There is no server run by the developer and nothing is shared with anyone else. Sync is still off out of the box.

If both devices change the same team without syncing in between, the newer version wins. The other one is not lost – it shows up as a separate team with "(conflict)" in its name.

LINES ARE NOW CALLED F AND D

R1 to R4 become F1 to F4, and P1 to P3 become D1 to D3 – the same in both languages.

NEW PDF TEMPLATE: LINES ON THE RINK

A4 landscape, each line on its own full rink with forwards and defense together: Line 1 to Line 4, G, PP1, PP2, PK1, PK2.

You choose beforehand which lines go on the sheet and whether the page is landscape or portrait. If you only run two lines or do not need the power play, take the rest out – the remaining ones then get bigger. The app tells you which orientation gives the bigger rinks.

### 1.3 — 2026-10-01

CROSS-ICE: ASSIGN UNITS BY HAND

Until now the app could only distribute the units itself. Now you decide who is in which unit: tap the name, pick the unit, done.

• Add and remove units. Removing one does not lose its players – they move to the smallest remaining units.
• Anyone you leave out stays out, next time you open it too.
• Unit size can be set to 2, 3 or 4 players. In unit mode the whole unit goes on the ice, so that is also the number on the ice.
• In the individual rotation you rearrange the order by dragging.
• Units below three or above five players are flagged, but the decision stays yours.

You'll find it under "Assign", next to the unit overview.

ICLOUD SYNC: FIXED

• Sync could report that it was up to date without having uploaded anything. A team whose first upload failed was then left behind for good.
• A team now only counts as stored once iCloud has confirmed it.
• Anything on the device that does not match the confirmed state is sent again by itself.
• If iCloud rejects something, it now appears in the options under "Last message from iCloud" instead of being swallowed silently.
• New: "Upload everything again" sends your whole collection once more, in case something is missing on another device.
• New: the options show how many teams are still waiting to upload.

### 1.2 — 2026-09-29

SYNC VIA ICLOUD
Your teams can now be ready on every device signed in with the same Apple Account — planned on the iPad, used at the bench on the iPhone. Rosters, lineups, ratings, statistics and club logos all come along.

The data goes solely into the private database of your own iCloud account. There is no server run by the developer and nothing is shared with anyone else; iCloud encrypts the attachments on its own. Sync is off out of the box — you are asked once, and under "Options" you can turn it off again at any time or delete whatever has been stored.

If the same team is changed on two devices without syncing in between, the version saved last wins. The other one is not lost: it shows up as a separate team with "(conflict)" in its name.

CROSS-ICE UNITS AND SHIFT CLOCK
New in the menu of the Lineup tab. The app splits your skaters across up to four color-coded units — red, yellow, green, blue — as evenly as the regulations for children's ice hockey prescribe, balanced by rating if you like.

The shift clock counts the shift down: one minute out of the box, adjustable from 15 seconds to three minutes. It warns ten seconds ahead and calls the change with a tone and haptics, even when the device is set to silent. The screen always shows who is on the ice and who is up next, and it stays awake while the clock runs. For practice there is an individual rotation instead.

If unit sizes do not match the regulations, or somebody is not assigned to a unit, the app says so.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-11

Neuer Bereich „Optionen“:
