## What is Holmes Abroad?

HOLMES ABROAD is a detective game you walk through — literally or from your
armchair. Each case is a self-contained mystery in a real city circa
1890–1905, narrated by a custom voice cast and scored with original
period-appropriate music.

YOU ARE NOT HOLMES. You are his Watson-like associate, ungendered and
unnamed, observing what Holmes points out and forming your own judgments.
Holmes is with you in the field; at the end of each case, he performs his
five-act conclusion — and you discover whether your reading matched his.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
• Real places, real history. Walk Vienna's Innere Stadt, Amsterdam's
  Plantagebuurt, Copenhagen's old Valby, Paris's Faubourg Saint-Germain,
or London's Clerkenwell — every location you investigate exists on the
  ground today.
• Two play modes. AFOOT mode uses your GPS to gate each location behind
physical proximity — you must arrive to investigate. ARMCHAIR mode
unlocks the whole map for play from home.
• Fully voiced. Every narrative beat, every witness statement, every
Holmes deduction is performed by a custom voice cast. No text-to-speech
  filler.
• No hand-holding. Witnesses lie, evade, hedge, and contradict each
other. The game does not tell you who to trust. You judge for yourself,
  then commit to your answer.
• Period-authentic. The 1890s map style, the soundscapes (gas-lamp
hisses, hansom-cab wheels, distant church bells), and the witness
speech patterns are all researched and built for each case.

PRIVACY
Location is checked on-device only in AFOOT mode. Coordinates are never
stored, never transmitted, never associated with you. The app makes no
analytics calls beyond crash reporting (Sentry, fully anonymized).

THE SEVEN-CASE SLATE WILL EXPAND. Bleeding Heart Yard is the latest;
more are in production. Cases ship as in-app purchases so the free
entry case never gets larded with paywalls.

Solve the cases that no one was supposed to solve.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### v1.1.0 — 2026-06-09

Three new cases land in v1.1.0 — and Holmes carries you further across the
continent than ever before.

• Case 5 — The Brewer's Crypt (Copenhagen, November 1895)
A village sexton found at the foot of an unfinished crypt stair on a
morning the constable wrote off as a fall. Walk the old Valby village
before the city draws its lines through, and learn whose fear put an
iron cleat in a frightened man's hand.

• Case 6 — The Quai d'Orsay Translation (Paris, August 1896)
A ministry translator dead at the foot of his own service stair, in the
hottest week of August. The surgeon signed it a misadventure; the whole
quarter would rather it were spies. Walk the Left Bank of 1896 and learn
whose quiet hand stopped a careful man's heart.

• Case 7 — Bleeding Heart Yard (London, October 1904)
A Russian-emigre printer found stabbed in Bleeding Heart Yard during the
Outrage week, when half the country wants to believe the exiles have
done it. The police have a man already, and he will not say where he
was. But the dead man wore another man's coat — and the blade was meant
  for that other man.

Plus: improvements to narration mixing, slower music fades on returning
from a case, sharper case-selector map markers, and the new "violet ink"
halo on freshly-discovered locations.
