### 3/5 — Не работает без VPN

*2026-08-20*

На iPhone не работает без VPN

### 4/5 — Steep learning curve for 86yr old! 🙄

*2026-08-18, version 2026.7.4*

Each update helps as well as secret use of AI

### 3/5 — Widget customisation still poor

*2026-08-14*

Simple widget, open/closed door sensor. The most important part “open/closed” isn’t customisable and is smallest part of the widget. Dynamic colour change would be nice please. The rest of the app is great! Only 3 stars because when everything is running ok I hardly ever open the app, widgets should be the first line of alert.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback

### 4/5 — Crazy, powerful, but…

*2026-08-01*

Home Assistant is incredibly powerful. However, the extremely complicated UI is not at all user-friendly. The same information can be accessed in so many different ways, not always with the same results, and it is often not apparent which feels can be clicked for more information and which not. In an ideal world. Would be redesigned so that it is much more intuitive without AI, I would never have learned to use it.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback

### 2/5 — Update Killed Apple Watch

*2026-07-23*

I've had my Apple Watch configured and working for quite a while now, however, after a recent update it stopped showing my configured actions. I couldn't get it to sync back to my watch so I deleted my Apple Watch configuration to start from scratch. Unfortunately, the iOS app was unable to see or add ANY actions to the configuration. I can create folders and that syncs to my watch but without actions a list of folders is pointless! Phone: iPhone 17 Pro, Watch: Ultra 2

Update: After reseting "Complications"??? Don't even know what these are ... Entities to add to the menu started showing up again.

**Developer response:** Thanks for reporting the issue, in here I cannot help you, but if you reach out to our official support channels like discord or github I can help you out.

### 4/5 — Great overall, hate new minimum width

*2026-07-22, version 2026.7.1*

In a recent version the companion app had some kind of minimum width enforcement set and now it refuses to go to the width I have run it at for years. I really hope this gets undone soon as I love the usefulness of the app but am having a hard time placing it I a visible spot due to lack of horizontal real estate.

### 1/5 — Невозможно нормально зайти в приложение

### 1/5 — Password Reset Nightmare - Don’t Bother

*2026-07-10, version 2026.7.0*

After months of running home assistant and accessing it from both my iPhone and Mac with no issues, the username and password randomly stopped working. The steps required to simply reset a password are onerous and completely unnecessary. After fighting with it, I gave up and simply deleted the server software, and the app from my iPhone. This is a consumer level product with ancient linux command line solutions that require physical access to the server, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. There is no excuse for this. None.

### 5/5 — HA for the win!!

*2026-07-08, version 2026.6.0*

The best home automation platform and an amazing companion app to go with it.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-07-08, version 2026.7.0*

Thank you for finally fixing the copy/paste issue.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Cannot connect

*2026-08-14, version 2026.7.4*

I appreciate that this is a free app. Having said that, it should be able to connect and maintain a connection to Home Assistant. This has never worked reliably and the worst is that now it just goes into a death spiral of retries with literally no other controls on the screen to get it out of this endless cycle.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-08-08, version 2026.7.3*

Highly don’t recommend

### 1/5 — Hey, thanks Nabu Casa

*2026-08-03, version 2026.7.3*

Whatever you have done with HA Mac app, it NO longer works for me! I now have to login via browser, which works just fine. Thanks for the DOWNGRADE?????
Boo hiss

### 1/5 — Forced to use this, but it sucks

*2026-07-31*

This is not a good app, it is slow and glitchy and often won’t scroll properly. It won’t connect to Home Assistant and I’m forced to reload to stop it from endlessly trying to connect.

Home Assistant itself is great but I expect more from the team than this terrible app.

### 1/5 — Feels vibe coded

*2026-07-28, version 2026.7.1*

So many problems. Just to name a few:
1) I can’t right click the icon to access preferences (just loads and closes the app).
2) There’s a difference between pressing the red close button and tapping the icon (the latter “hides” the window, which randomly pops up later on at the worst possible time).
3) The iOS app has a “Companion app” section in the settings, while the MacOS app uses the menu bar (which is broken in my case).

Lots of poorly thought out decisions like this throughout. I know it’s an open source app, so I shouldn’t be complaining, but I think quality has definitely taken a back seat to speed and perhaps vibe coding.

### 1/5 — iOS 15?

*2026-07-20, version 2026.7.1*

iOS 15? That was the current version of IOS IN 2022, when it was superseded by IOS 16. IOS 26 is the latest version. I think what you are trying to say is that users need a minimum of IOS 15

### 1/5 — Slower than web interface and randomly crashes

*2026-07-18*

Typical of the pathetic, half finished, badly designed, poorly thought out mess that Frenks Fan Club produces.
STILL no security or decent multi user capability.
The entire home assistant system can only be described as the best of a (very) bad lot.
Every update just brings a different set of bugs, usually without fixing anything meaningful.

**Developer response:** Thanks for reporting the issue, in here I cannot help you, but if you reach out to our official support channels like discord or github I can help you out.

### 1/5 — Shortcuts are broken

*2026-07-14, version 2026.7.0*

Latest update broke all my shortcuts and the replacement actions they want me to use just open the app and don’t do the thing they’re supposed to do. I updated everything and it’s still broken. It’s hard to rely on home assistant when they keep breaking things.

### 1/5 — No longer works properly!

*2026-07-13, version 2026.7.0*

They seem to have messed up this App with recent updates. No longer connects to my Home Assistant Server . Every time I want to use the App, I now have to delete the server configuration and reinstall it.

### 1/5 — No support

*2026-07-12, version 2026.7.0*

Has a bug that broke my companion app sensors which broke my automations. Only way to submit bug report is GitHub and I submitted one a month ago. Other people responded to the report saying they had the same issue but the developer has not commented on it at all.

Before this everything worked flawlessly and the app was amazing.

### 5/5 — Rien à voir avec Jeedom !

*2026-08-17*

### 5/5 — The ultimate smart control platform

*2026-08-08, version 2026.7.3*

Configuration meets you where you are. Point and click through the GUI, or drop straight into YAML when you want real control, and both work equally well. The design is genuinely polished, fast and clear on every screen. It stays connected, responds instantly, and just keeps running without babysitting.

### 5/5 — It’s simply the best.

*2026-08-04*

It’s better than all the rest. It’s better anyone. Anyone I ever met. I’m stuck in your heart. I hang on to every word you say. Tear us apart?? No, no.. Baby, I would rather be dead. -Tina Turner

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-08-04*

Home assistant is by far the best home automation system. Flawless.

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — HA Review

*2026-08-01, version 2026.7.1*

Home Assistant is a great home automation app!

I started using it in January and have never gone back to Apple Home

### 5/5 — You need a LLM integration to use

*2026-07-30*

I think myself quite tech savvy but this is a ridiculous rabbit hole to go down. If it wasn’t for LLMs I would never have even got the thing connected. Now I’ve connected Claude via MCP I’m loving it

**Developer response:** Thanks for reporting the issue, in here I cannot help you, but if you reach out to our official support channels like discord or github I can help you out.

### 5/5 — Home Assistant rules

*2026-07-27, version 2026.7.1*

I love HA, it’s so awesome.

### 5/5 — Great product, with an awesome app

*2026-07-20, version 2026.7.1*

Open source app that works great with Shelly products

### 5/5 — Muito bom!

*2026-07-17*

Parabéns.

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — The best home automation system on planet earth

*2026-07-16, version 2026.7.1*

Home Assistant is amazing! Yes, it may currently be more suitable to tinkered and those that want to customize everything, rather than having a slick boilerplate GUI—but, you can do so much more with HA than with anything else out there. And almost universally compatible. You can get away without the app, but it adds a couple of nice features.
