There are 3 frozen gel packs, which they say to cut open and pour into the trash in order to recycle the bag it came in. What is the point? I don’t want a horrible mess in the trash can, so it’ll have to go into a bag anyway. Also, every ingredient in the oven ready meals is bagged separately , and there’s just SO much packaging! The meal kits use a little less packaging, but with those, I still need to do all the cutting and cooking, so… All this to avoid going to the grocery store, but the reality is, I have to go anyway for all the other stuff I eat for other meals/snacks. So this is pointless for me. I know how to shop and cook. On top of all that, the cancel process is not straightforward. You have to cancel in the app, then they send you an email with a link to confirm that you want to cancel, then they still won’t cancel it until week later, so you have to make sure to skip deliveries until they do. Jumping through hoops, and they are hoping people miss a step and they’ll send you another box. ### 4/5 — Taste and Quality *2026-08-21, version 3.66.2* I love Home Chef. We love the unique combinations of flavors and choices. Since learning how to cook at home, I lost 15 lbs and my husband lost 30 and we have kept the weight off. Home Chef changed my life for the better. ### 3/5 — Recipe Malfunction *2026-07-27, version 3.65.0* The meals are great typically things come in fresh. My biggest problem is them not sending the accurate recipe or sometimes sending the wrong meal altogether. Like sometimes it will be the right meal with the wrong recipe sent in so then you have to do the recipe from the app but the app doesn’t let you print out the recipe so you have to keep pulling it up on your phone as you go which is annoying. And then sometimes the complete wrong meal will come in with the correct recipe printed out so it’s backwards. Reaching customer service is difficult, so that function can use some work but other than that it’s a really good food delivery service. ### 5/5 — Recipes *2026-07-19, version 3.64.0* Recipes are great, very creative. But not there yet *2026-07-08, version 3.64.0* I was excited to join in an attempt to simplify my eating. I will disclose that I am new to eating meat, so some of my negative comments may be obvious to others. First issue: I would receive a box either missing recipe cards or missing the food packet. This happened more than once. Second issue: I just didn’t care much for the quality of the food. I would receive fruit and vegetables that were way past their prime. Issue 3: it just didn’t taste that good. The meat was super tough. Issue 4: I would skip a week on the app, and there it would show up on my porch. I work several weeks of the month out of town. Can’t complain about some of the sides. On a positive note, customer service has been great. Customer service did nothing to help credit any of my money back and blamed me (the customer) for what happened. Absolutely disgusted with their customer service. ### 1/5 — Scammy business *2026-08-10, version 3.66.1* Despite cancelling IMMEDIATELY after seeing the meal options, this company charged me $110 and sent food anyway. Will not issue a refund, but a discount for a FUTURE box. Apparently they send an email saying you’re still going to be charged.. but if I cancelled, why? Scam. ### 1/5 — Very poor service *2026-08-06, version 3.66.0* We started Home Chef with high hopes. Unfortunately their Achilles heel is delivery. It might be common sense too. Living in Phoenix where the summers are very hot I would have thought this would be taken into account. They allow ALL DAY to the drivers to deliver the box of food. There is NO DELIVERY WINDOW with this service. The final straw for us was a delivery at 10:40pm. We literally sat around ALL DAY missing a movie we paid for waiting for the delivery. The box was delivered at 10:40pm and was soaked through and broken open. The ice packs were no longer cold. I sent photos and an opening video to customer service. They didn’t care the food (3 chicken dishes) was probably spoiled and only refunded the delivery charge. Who is going to eat room temperature chicken? Compromised? I believed it was. I didn’t want to get food poisoning. Another point was the customer service. They didn’t care. They care about money, which is fine, but they should also be capable of recognizing a compromised delivery. They are not capable of recognizing that. ### 1/5 — Won’t honor advertised sign up incentives *2026-07-31, version 3.66.0* Was super excited for the Heroes incentive including discounts on the first order, free shipping on the first order. 10% discount on following orders. And a complimentary dessert item “for life”. The only thing I ended up getting was the % discounts. After reaching out to support, they claimed to fix it, but i feeel like they were just brushing me off since the issue persists. Just be aware, if you’re signing up for the incentives, you probably won’t get them. Very disappointing Update: They keep delivering and charging canceled orders. And their support chat keeps kicking me out. 1 star is way more than they deserve ### 1/5 — No communication *2026-07-21, version 3.64.0* The delivery company they choose will not notify you of a delivery or the tracking status even if you sign up 1000 times. So you have to hope they will knock and let u know it’s there. THEY DONT! And you will get warm food that you cannot consume. It is a waste of money and time. My concern is the delivery process. My previous shipment arrived a day late with fully thawed ice packs and soggy packaging. This week’s shipment was assigned a 9 PM–12 AM delivery window despite containing perishable food and temperatures in the mid-80s. Error messages. Attempt to log in on website and am told the boxes are packed to withstand an additional day in transit and a refusal to offer me anything. So we just ignore lost boxes and try to convince customers it’s okay? Refuse to even acknowledge an issue or refund? And the app doesn’t even work? This will be the second time I cancel my subscription for the exact same reason! After so many boxes they just stop caring and never ship them. Also the prep time is so much faster than other options we’ve done in the past which makes it much more enjoyable. I also really like that you can skip weeks and not be charged.
