## What is Home Inventory?

Whateren is a beautiful, private home inventory app that runs on your device by default. Finally know what you own, where it is, and when you got it.

Preparing for a move, documenting your belongings for insurance, or just tired of asking "where did I put that?": Whateren catalogs every item, room and piece of furniture in your home.

WHAT · WHERE · WHEN
• What: every item you own, searchable and filterable
• Where: your properties, rooms, furniture and boxes, organized in a hierarchy
• When: a timeline of every change to your inventory

QR LABELS FOR BOXES AND ROOMS
Print a label for any box, drawer or room, or label a whole home in one PDF, on plain paper or on Avery sheets. Scan a label with the iPhone's own Camera and that place opens in the app. The larger labels can list what is inside, and the code itself carries nothing but an anonymous identifier.

PHOTOS THAT STAY WITH YOU
Take a photo of any item as you add it. Images are optimized on your device to keep storage small. Press and hold a photo to remove its background: the item is cut out and centred on white, on your device, offline, at no cost.

AI IDENTIFICATION (OPTIONAL)
Use the free, on-device AI (Apple Vision, with enhanced results where Apple Intelligence is available) to auto-fill an item's details from a photo. Or opt into Premium AI (Anthropic Claude) for brand, model and estimated value. Premium is pay-as-you-go with credit packs, no subscription, or bring your own API key. Enhance with AI re-runs identification on an item or place you already added.

BARCODE SCANNING
Scan a book, food item, or tagged product to auto-fill its details from public catalogs.

RECEIPTS AND DOCUMENTS
Photograph a purchase receipt and Premium AI reads every product on it: name, price, quantity, category, and the serial number or warranty when the receipt prints them. Choose where the items go and each one lands in your Inbox waiting for its own photo, with the receipt attached to it as a document. One credit per item you import. You can also attach a receipt, an invoice or a manual yourself.

INSURANCE REPORTS AND INVENTORY LISTS
Turn any room, property, or box into a PDF report for your insurer: everything inside it and its sub-places, with photos, serial numbers, and prices. Or choose a plain inventory list, with the statuses you pick and none of the insurance details.

LENDING & WARRANTIES
Lend an item and note who has it and when it is due back, then get a reminder. Every item keeps its loan history and its warranty date.

FIND IT FROM ANYWHERE
A Search tab answers one query across items and places at once: names, serial numbers, barcodes, categories, even the title of an attached document, so a shop's name finds what you bought on that receipt. Search from the Home Screen with Spotlight too, or ask Siri to add an item or find where something is, in your own language. Open an item on one device and it waits for you on the other, in the Dock and the app switcher.

iCLOUD SYNC & FAMILY SHARING (OPTIONAL)
Turn on iCloud sync to keep your inventory across your Apple devices. If iCloud already holds something, you choose which side is right: combine both, keep what is in iCloud, or keep what is on this device. The app names what each choice costs before you make it, and what was on this device is set aside so you can change your mind. Share a property with family, choosing view-only or full-edit access.

TEAM CAPTURE
Everyone you share a property with can help capture it: each photo is saved instantly as a draft, AI identifies it as it arrives, and everything lands in the Inbox to review and confirm.

YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
Export to CSV or JSON, and back up everything (photos included) at any time.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Whateren has no account, no server of ours, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. Every network request it makes is named in our privacy policy.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.10 — 2026-08-26

• QR labels for your places: print a label for a box, a drawer or a room, in four sizes, or label a whole home in one PDF, on plain paper with cut marks or on Avery sheets, numbered so you can check every box arrived. The larger labels can carry the place's name, its path and what is inside.
• Scan a label and land there: point the iPhone's own Camera at a printed label and Whateren opens that exact place, whether the app was running or not. There is a scanner in the app too, in every tab. A label whose place is not on your iPhone says so plainly instead of opening the wrong thing.
• Continue on your other device: open an item or a place on one device and it waits for you on the other, in the Dock and the app switcher. Only an identifier and the name travel, never your photos, and only between your own devices.
• Remove a photo's background: press and hold any photo and the item is cut out and centred on white, so your inventory shows the thing and not the clutter around it. It happens on your device, offline, and costs no credits.
• Split and merge items: have two of something and lend one, and splitting first gives each part its own status, photos and history. Merge folds items back together, keeping the one you started from and telling you exactly what it discards before it does.
• Find duplicates: if turning iCloud sync on ever left you with copies of the same thing, Settings can now find and fold them. It only touches your own items, never anything shared with you.
• A Search tab: one query across items and places at once, matching names, serial numbers, barcodes, categories and even the title of an attached document, so a shop's name finds what you bought on that receipt.
• You decide what happens to your iCloud data: turning sync on when iCloud already holds something asks whether to combine both, keep what is in iCloud, or keep what is on this device, and says what each choice costs before you make it.
• Names now sort the way your language sorts them, so Box 2 comes before Box 10 and an accented name sits with its letter instead of after Z. On iPad the list stays beside the detail in portrait as well as landscape, and there is a welcome tour for new users.
• Plus more than twenty fixes, several of which could lose data: a restore no longer deletes Inbox drafts, two devices buying credits at the same time no longer lose one of the purchases, a refunded purchase now returns its credits, and a shared property you can only view no longer accepts edits that could never sync.

### 2.8 — 2026-08-03

• Scan a receipt: photograph a purchase receipt and Premium AI reads every product on it, filling in name, price, quantity, category, and the serial number or warranty when the receipt prints them. Review what it found, drop anything you do not want, choose where the items go, and each one lands in your Inbox waiting for your own photo. The receipt is kept as a document attached to every item it created. One credit per item you import.
• Documents on your items: attach a receipt, an invoice or a manual by scanning it with the camera, picking a photo or choosing a file. Available while you create an item, while you edit one, and from the item's own screen.
• Inventory lists: a plain PDF of what is in a place and everything inside it, with the statuses you choose and none of the insurance details.
• A new look for items and places: a large title, the photos as a full-width slider, and one row of tiles for the numbers and the actions, now identical on both screens.
• Also: an item needs a place before it can enter your inventory, every place in Where has a button that lists everything inside it, and the edit forms close with a swipe like a native sheet.
• Plus a round of fixes and refinements.

### 2.7 — 2026-07-24

• Insurance reports: turn any place into a PDF for your insurer, with everything inside it and its sub-places, including photos, serial numbers, and prices. Saved on the place, ready to send.
• Lending and warranties: mark who has an item and when it is due back, and get reminded. Each item keeps its loan history and its warranty date, and a scan can lift a serial number straight from the item's own photos.
• Search from the Home Screen: your items and places are now findable in Spotlight, without opening the app. Drafts and things shared with you are never included.
• Siri and Shortcuts: ask Siri to add an item or find where something is, in your own language, and build your own Shortcuts from the same actions.
• Plus a round of fixes and refinements.

### 2.6 — 2026-07-21

• Team Capture: inventory a home together. Everyone on a shared property can capture; each photo is saved instantly as a draft, AI identifies it on the spot, and you review and confirm from the Inbox.
• Enhance with AI: improve an item or place you already added. Run identification on its existing photos and review the suggestions before saving.
• 17 new place subtypes, from Vacation Home and Laundry Room to Vehicle, Safe, and Suitcase, each with its own icon.
• Redesigned item and place screens: full-width photos, at-a-glance stats, and one consistent look.
• New Appearance setting: Light, Dark, or System.
• A What's New screen after each update, plus many fixes and refinements.

### 2.5 — 2026-07-16

• New and better UI
• A refined, photo-first inventory experience
• Optional Premium AI identification powered by Anthropic Claude
• Pay-as-you-go credit packs for AI recognition, no subscription
• iCloud sync and family sharing
• Barcode scanning for books, food, and tagged products
• Fully localized in 8 languages
