## What is Home Library Companion?

Point the camera at a full shelf. Home Library Companion reads the spines and catalogs every book — a 40-book shelf takes about a minute. Barcode, copyright-page, and cover scanning are there too, plus plain search, but the shelf photo is the fast way in.

Then it remembers where everything lives. Every book gets a real address — building, room, bookcase, shelf — so “do we own this?” and “where did it go?” both take seconds.

YOUR FIRST 100 BOOKS ARE FREE
Catalog 100 books per library before you pay anything. No time limit, nothing to cancel. Household sharing, syncing, and the web library are all part of the free tier. Signing in is required — your library is stored on our server, so it syncs to your other devices and can be shared. If your collection is bigger than 100 books, $39.99/year raises the cap to 1,000 books per library and turns on Ask. One subscription covers everyone in a shared library.

ASK YOUR OWN LIBRARY
Ask in plain English — “which of my books cover rose care?” — and get answers drawn only from books you actually own. No internet recommendations, no invented titles. Ask requires the subscription.

ONE LIBRARY FOR THE WHOLE HOUSEHOLD
Invite your household with a QR code or invite code. Everyone sees the same catalog, in sync, on their phones and iPads, and on the web at homelibrarycompanion.com/app.

BUILT FOR REAL COLLECTIONS
• Whole-shelf photo scanning, plus barcode, copyright-page, and cover ID
• Locations: building → room → bookcase → shelf
• Topic index; group by author, topic, or location
• First 100 books free; up to 1,000 books per library with the subscription
• iPhone and iPad. English plus 12 more languages.

No ads, no third-party analytics, and your data is never sold.

SUBSCRIPTION
Home Library Companion Annual, $39.99 per year. It raises the limit from 100 to 1,000 books per library and unlocks Ask. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, and it renews automatically at $39.99/year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Cataloging up to 100 books stays free.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-24

Onboarding is shorter — five screens instead of seven, so you reach your library faster.

Framing tips for cover photos now appear at the camera, where you need them, rather than during setup.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-09

Your first 100 books are now free.

Sign in and catalog your first 100 books without paying anything, and with no time limit. Locations, topics, search, sync, and household sharing all work on the free 100. When your collection outgrows 100 books, $39.99/year raises the cap to 1,000 books per library and turns on Ask.

Also in this version:
• No paywall in front of the app. You land in your library right after sign-in.
• At 70 books the library header starts showing the count: “82 of 100 free · Unlock more”.
• If a shelf scan would cross the limit, it adds books up to the limit and tells you how many from that shelf are left over.
• The Ask tab now shows your book count and a few example questions before you subscribe.
• Subscribe, restore, or manage your subscription any time from the gear icon, under Account.
• Going past the limit never locks you out. Browsing, editing, searching, syncing, and sharing keep working; only adding new books stops.

If something is broken or missing, write to support@homelibrarycompanion.com — I answer every message.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-08-01

Fixes a problem where signing in didn't finish setting up your library, so books stayed on your device instead of syncing and backing up. If that happened to you, your books will sync automatically the next time you open the app.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-15

The app may now ask for an App Store rating once your library has taken shape - never mid-task. Also: refreshed App Store copy and small fixes.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-10

No release notes.
