If my service radius is 10km, I don’t want invites from over 10km away. Why is this so hard to understand. I have to bill for a fuel surcharge and this will put my quote higher than others. Please fix this or add an option in the account area, so I can turn this notification feature on or off. ### 3/5 — When ‘Leads’ Feel More Like Lotto Tickets… *2026-08-13, version 12.0.1* I’ve been using HomeStars for a while, and let’s just say the experience has been… educational. You pay for leads that look promising, but half the time the “homeowner” disappears faster than a free estimate on a Friday. Some don’t answer, some are unreachable, and a few seem like they never even existed. Refunds? Good luck. The process feels like filing a small claim in space. Even when a lead clearly violates their own policy (fake number, no response, wrong contact), it’s a whole song and dance to get a simple credit. The platform could be great if there was real screening, better verification, and fairer support for the pros actually doing the work. Instead, it often feels like we’re just funding their marketing while rolling dice on who picks up the phone. I’m not new to this industry, just tired of paying for “shortlisted” jobs that don’t exist. Until they clean up the system and start treating verified contractors as partners, not cash machines, I’ll keep my expectations realistic and my wallet cautious. Leads do arrive by email, sometimes never showing up on the app, other times just as a random text. It’s like solving a Sudoku puzzle trying to connect the dots. Invites mostly don’t work, as many don’t have a phone number, so you can’t contact the customer the way they expect you to… ### 1/5 — Fraud *2026-06-06, version 12.0.1* I have listed my company on this app. First I says that if you accept the invite and send your contact info only then got charged. But no it blocked me responding to leads as their is pending invoice which I don’t agree. But still on blocked it charges me every single day for leads . They get you on a one year contract and you’re basically stuck paying on a monthly basis with no good leads coming in.. and you can’t get out of it for a year. The leads provided did not respond to calls or messages, and appear to be fake or non-genuine. This is misleading and caused financial loss. I am reporting this app for deceptive practices and request investigation. Many leads did not respond initially, and some responses came much later. This makes it difficult to properly assess the value of the service within the refund period. My experience was not as expected. I AM GONNA REPORT IT EVERYWHERE TILL I GET MY MONEY !!!! I'd say it's likely a waste of money and time. You'll have to calculate the cost of tasks that don't have specifics, and the worst thing is, no matter whether you completed the work or not, you'll still be charged because the client sent you and ten other professionals contact information without even knowing why they did it. Basically, it's very easy to lose money here, and support doesn't even bother to look into these issues. ### 1/5 — Think Twice before using *2026-04-12, version 12.0.1* as someone who only experienced for a month to provide services on this app without getting a single customer, the company charged me three times in different amounts of about six hundred dollars. With the first charge of $230, I deactivated my account, but the withdrawal of amounts under the name of commission continued and I disputed it. They invite you to quote a job, you get charged per lead, the leads don’t respond after you accept the lead, and you’re left with a bill. And the leads aren’t cheap either. I’ve been using this app for 2 months and I haven’t had one full conversation, I’m ghosted every time, and I’ve payed a few hundred dollars for nothing. Really disappointed. Feeling scammed. The “Start a conversation” option is misleading — it still results in a charge once the customer shares contact details, even if you never had a chance to evaluate the job. Customers can submit requests without photos or any meaningful details, refuse to provide information, and then walk away — while contractors are still charged. In practice, many leads are low-quality, incomplete, or just people looking for free advice. Contractors end up paying for interactions that have zero business value. In a large area like Metro Vancouver, the number of truly valid leads is surprisingly low compared to the cost. This model puts all the financial risk on contractors while providing no guarantee of real opportunities. Not recommended. ### 1/5 — Fraudulent activity *2026-03-19, version 11.0.4* BE AWARE if you are thinking about using HomeStars as a contractor, this platform has ghost customers which will cost you a lot in lead fees, and before you realize this ghost customers are frauds you will be billed with an invoice already that you can’t dispute because of their policy in place , of course you will fall for it if you are not aware of this. They are charging me almost 500$ for lead fees that 90% of the customers were ghost customers and of course before I could realize what was happening they had billed me with an invoice already. I tried to argue this but they give me some bs saying the fees of the ghost customers will be refunded as credit back in the account but I will still need to pay the invoice , why would I want to use your app if I have to pay for something I did not consume ? I WILL MAKE SURE TO CREATE A WIDE SPREAD OF AWARENESS SO OTHERS DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. I WILL CREATE AN AWARENESS ON ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS OF MY EXPERIENCE WITH HOMESTARS SO OTHERS DO NOT FALL VICTIM OF THIS. This is awful that professionals rely on such parasites that charge $50-$150 per lead per person even though they are fake leads and they know it too. I was charged for leads that did not result in any jobs, and I don’t feel I received value for the money I paid. I believe the pricing model is unfair because contractors are expected to pay for leads regardless of whether the customer hires them.I decided to cancel my account after realizing the service was not a good fit for my business. I also requested a review of the charges, but the overall experience left me frustrated. I would would like to tell other contractors not to sign up cause it’s a total waste of money ### 1/5 — Waste of Money *2026-07-01, version 12.0.1* Leads are way too overpriced cheapest lead is $11.00 especially when 80% of the clients don’t respond to your call, emails or in app messages. It makes no sense on lead pricing some small jobs have lead pricing of $60-$90 in some cases. You are charged for access to a potential customer’s contact information, but there is no guarantee that you will actually get the job, since there are usually several contractors competing for the same lead. In other words, you are not paying for a job contract — you are paying simply for a phone number so you can call and discuss the project. If your terms are not accepted, you still have to pay the fee plus taxes regardless of the outcome. In my case, out of six leads, only one turned into a job worth $75, while I paid $87 just for the opportunity to discuss potential projects.
